CHAPTER II
THEORICAL REVIEW
A. BEAN SPROUT
Bean sprout is a bean that has just started to grow and is eaten as a
vegetable. The detail explanation about bean sprout will be described as
follows: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bean_sprout)
1. Bean Sprout Classification
Kingdom : Plantae
Divisio : Angiosperms
Classis : Eudicots
Order : Fabales
Family : Fabaceae
Genus : Vigna
Species : V. Radiata

2. Bean sprout Planting
These are steps to plant bean sprout: (http://organisasi.org/cara-
menanam-membuat-kecambah-tumbuhan-muda-yang-bisa-dimakan-
manusia)
a. Gather the sprout seeds you choose to grow. Rinse the seeds
under running water.
8

b. Place the seeds in the bottom of the plastic glass. Cover with 1 to
2 inches of water. Cover the plastic glass with glass lid and secure
glass lid to the top of the jar with a rubber band. Let the seeds
soak 12 hours or overnight.
c. After the initial soak, drain the seeds. Cover them with water once
again, swirl them around in the glass and then drain the seeds.
After rinsing and draining, prop the glass up so that it tilts with
the opening downward. This allows all the water to drain and
helps to prevent mold growth.
d. Place the seeds in the coconut milk filter and put basins under the
coconut milk oil.
e. Cover the coconut milk filter with banana leaf.

3. Factors That Affect The Growth and Development of Beansprout
There are a lot of factors that affect the growth and development of
bean sprout. If these factors are not fulfilled, then the bean sprout
might stop doing its life activity.
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bean_sprout). These factors are :
a. Temperature
Temperature is a factor that determines the growth, reproduction,
and also survival of the bean sprout. The good temperature for the
growth of the bean sprout are between 22 degree celcius until 37
9

degree celcius. Its temperature which is lower or higher than the
normal limit will cause the slow growth of the bean sprout.
b. Humidity
The water intensity in the air may affect the growth and
development of bean sprout. A humid place gives a lot of
advantages to the bean sprout because it can easily get water and
also lower its evaporation which gives impact on the speed of the
cell formation.
c. Sun Light
Bean sprout is one kind of plant which can grow well in dark
place. It can also grow in a place which receive a lot of sun light,
but its result will be not as good as the bean sprout which grow in
a dark place.
d. Hormone
Hormone also grabs a really important role in bean sprouts
growth. There is auxin hormone to help the cell expansion,
giberelin hormone which has role in the cell division, sitocinin
hormone to activate the cell division, and ethylen hormone to
speed up the fruit to become ripe.
e. Water
A majority of growing plants contains as much as 90 percent
water. Water is one of the most essential factors required in
growth of plants. Water plays a crucial role for efficient
10

photosynthesis, respiration, transpiration and transportation of
minerals and other nutrients through the plant. Water is
responsible for functioning of the stomatal opening of leaves and
also the source of pressure for the directed growth of roots
through the soil.

4. Charasteristics of Good Seed Plants
Seed plants are categorized as high quality seed plants if they are in
these conditions (http://www.ut.ac.id/html/suplemen/luht4344/
kecambah.html), such as:
a. The colour of the leaves is dark green.
b. The wider the leaves, the better their quality.
c. The higher the plant, the better its quality.

B. CLASSICAL MUSIC
1. Definition of Classical Music
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classical_music)
Classical music is the art music produced in, or rooted in, the
traditions of Western liturgical and secular music, encompassing a
broad period from roughly the 11th century to present times. The
central norms of this tradition became codified between 1550 and
1900, which is known as the common practice period. It should not be
confused with the Classical Era.
11

European music is largely distinguished from many other non-
European and popular musical forms by its system of staff notation, in
use since about the 16th century. Western staff notation is used by
composers to prescribe to the performer the pitch, speed, meter,
individual rhythms and exact execution of a piece of music. The term
"classical music" did not appear until the early 19th century, in an
attempt to "canonize" the period from Johann Sebastian Bach to
Beethoven as a golden age.
The most outstanding and particular characteristic of classical
music is that the repertoire tends to be written down. Composers and
performers alike are typically highly literate in understanding
notation. The written quality of the music has, in addition to
preserving the works, led to a high level of complexity within them.
The instruments used in most classical music were largely
invented before the mid-19th century (often much earlier), and
codified in the 18th and 19th centuries. They consist of the
instruments found in an orchestra, together with a few other solo
instruments (such as the piano, harpsichord, and organ). The
symphony orchestra is the most widely known medium for classical
music. The orchestra includes members of the string, woodwind,
brass, and percussion families.
Works of classical repertoire often exhibit artistic complexity
through the use of thematic development, phrasing, harmonization,
12

modulation (change of key), texture, and, of course, musical form
itself. Larger-scale compositional forms (such as that of the
symphony, concerto, opera or oratorio, for example) usually represent
a hierarchy of smaller units consisting of phrases, periods, sections,
and movements. Musical analysis of a composition aims at achieving
greater understanding of it, leading to more meaningful hearing and a
greater appreciation of the composer's style.

2. The Benefits of Classical Music
