Dear Gretchen;

We are delighted that you will be joining us at the 5th annual Northeastern/Central
Pennsylvania Interprofessional Education Coalition (NECPA IPEC) Collaborative
Care Summit. The Summit is scheduled for Wednesday, March 26th, 2014 from
4-7:00 pm. Registration begins at 3:30. This year, we expect nearly 800 students
from eleven colleges and universities to participate. You have been assigned to
attend the Summit at Marywood University.

As the coordinators of the event, we think it is important that you have an
understanding of why you are attending the summit. From the broadest sense, the
goal of interprofessional learning (and this summit) is to prepare all health
professions students so that they can collaboratively work together with the
common goal of building a safer and better patient-centered U.S. health care
system. Specifically, after completion of the summit, we expect that you will be able
to:
1. Identify members of the interprofessional team and discuss the complexities of
caring for a person with a progressive, chronic disorder.
2. Describe the roles and responsibilities of the interprofessional team and how
these roles may evolve as the illness progresses.
3. Identify other interprofessional team members who are not present that may
need to be included in the care of the patient.
4. Discuss the importance of working in cooperation with healthcare providers
and others who contribute to or support the delivery of health services.
5. Reflect upon individual interpersonal communication skills, such as, active
listening, encouraging ideas and opinions of team members, and respect for others.

The conference will consist of an opening session followed by small,
interprofessional group discussions. The small group discussion will focus around a
patient who has been diagnosed with Huntingtons disease. While the clinical
content of the case will not be the focus of the discussion, you may wish to review
this topic prior to the Summit (see below). A light dinner will be served. Dress is
professional casual (no jeans, t-shirts, shorts, etc). If you would like to come in
uniform, that is perfectly fine.

information that you should review prior to the summit. You will also be able to
retrieve directions and parking information. As parking is tight on all campuses, we
encourage you to carpool.

If you have any particular questions or concerns, you may respond to this email and
we will follow up with you. Please be sure to include your profession and home
program in any correspondence. We will be in touch again before the
summit. Please note, due to the large number of participants we are unable to
accommodate site changes.
