Role Description
The John Zink Hamworthy Combustion R&D Test Facility conducts performance tests for our combustion equipment including process burners, flares,
thermal oxidizers and vapor combustors. The instrument and controls engineer will provide engineering, programming and project management for a
variety of facility and special test related projects for this highly innovative environment. There may be a potential future expansion of this role to include
design of fuel controls and burner management systems for the process burner product group.

Requirements
Bachelors degree in engineering or instrumentation/controls technology
Minimum 3 years experience as a controls engineer
Experience in PLC programming including Allen Bradley systems
Preferred Requirements:
Experience as a Controls Engineer in the Oil and Gas, Petrochemical or related equipment industries
Experience with specifying instrumentation including control valves, pressure/temperature/flow transmitters and analyzers for hazardous area
classifications
Experience with Galil PLCs
Experience with Wonderware and Total Control HMI systems
Experience with HMI development
Experience with combustion or burner management system
Knowledge of instrumentation and electrical codes and standards including NEC, NFPA, CSA, ISA, UL, ATEX and IECEX
Experience in the preparation of project design basis documents to clearly outline project scope and requirements
Project management experience
Controls Engineer Responsibilities
The facilities engineer will be responsible for the following activities:
Engineering and project management of test facility controls, programming and instrumentation projects. This will include preparation of project design
basis documents, estimating, project approval document preparation, schedule preparation, engineering, budget control and contractor management.
Initial projects may include overall conversion of the test facility to a PLC based system including redesign of the facility I/O structure, redesign of the
flare test facility PLC program as well as other identified instrumentation improvements and implementation of new fuel flow programming for one of our
test furnaces.
Specification of instrumentation, valves, PLC and electrical components
Training and mentoring of other I/E staff
Organization and management of facility equipment drawings and data
Technical support for test center equipment, processes and maintenance staff
Technical and operational safety reviews including participation in PHA reviews and preparation of operating procedures.
Technical interface with our test facilities in Europe.
Oversee our test facility continuous improvements program
Physical Demands/Unusual Working Conditions:
Must be able to work in all weather conditions, be able to climb stairs and work at heights.
