Summary:

The article is about the recent endorsement of the Practice Doctorate in Nursing. This would
move the current level of preparation necessary for advanced nursing practice. This degree
would be a clinical or practice doctoral degree. And be titled the Doctor of Nursing Practice
(DPN). The diversity of these topics certainly reflects the richness and breadth of our specialty.

Reaction:
In my opinion, I think it is a good thing the American Association of Colleges of Nursing
(AACN) proposed the Practice Doctorate in Nursing. Because through this can help improve the
continuing education of advanced nursing practice. The diversity of these topics certainly reflects
the richness and breadth of our specialty. In keeping with the tradition of the Annual Course,
hopefully the following abstracts will encourage discussions for improving nursing practice and
patient care outcomes.

Summary:
The article is about the concern of a mother who is a nursing student with three school-age
children. She was worried about the plan that school nurses will be replaced by unlicensed
personnel since they are a valuable resource for school nurses. She worries that the
comprehensive scope of school nursing, as it has developed over more than a century, will be
lost.

Reaction:
If I was a mother of school-aged children and I would find out that the school nurse in my
childrens school will be replaced by unlicensed assistive personnel, I will definitely worry about
it. I will be uncertain of the quality of care that my children will receive. Because we all know
that registered nurses who will apply as school nurses contains greater knowledge and skills
compared to those who are unlicensed. And everyone will prefer those nurses who are licensed
whether in legal aspects or not. And for me it will be unfair to those who carries a license that
schools will prefer to hire those personnel without license and inadequate training and
experience.

Summary:
The article is about the issue about having few nurses in the hospital. Their plan is to hire
more nurses to achieve less death in hospitals and for both the clients and nurses to acquire less
hospital-acquired illnesses.

Reaction:
For me, it is a good thing that they are planning to hire more nurses in the hospital. Because
there are more patients compared to nurses. And in that case, not all patients are properly being
attended. Adding registered nurses to hospitals will reduce the mortality rate of patients in the
hospital. And also the quality of care that the patient will receive will better. If the care rendered
to the patients is of high quality, there will be a greater chance for them to quickly return to their
normal lives with improved health. And also, if there will be more nurses, there will be less
diseases from the hospital that the patients will acquire. Because if there is, for example, one
nurse to four patients, and one of them has a disease that can be transmitted through air, the nurse
may carry it along with them and when they move to their other patients, the pathogen may
transfer from one patient to another. The institution or hospital should always be after the quality
of services that they render their patients.

Summary:
The article is about Military Nursing. They are the nurses who are assigned to go with the
soldiers in the battlefield. They stay at a safe place of the field and their duty is to treat the
wounded soldiers. They dont play a part in combatting the opponents. Instead, they are there to
aide in the treatment of wounds. Frequently, this mission field is the battlefield when people are
vulnerable, when nations war against nations and ideology against ideology, in wars governed by
international conventions. Military nurses also cater to those people and areas that were struck by
strong calamities and where there is great devastation.

Reaction:
Personally, I admire the work of military nurses. Since I have a relative who is a military
nurse. There are a lot of advantages of being a military nurse. They receive a high salary and
they are able to obtain a lot of benefits from the government. They receive free hospitalization on
various hospitals within military bases. Their families also receive the same benefits as you do.
and being a military nurse, you are also carrying the honour and glory of the name of your
country. But then, there are also disadvantages to this field. One of the most common of these is
that you will be separated from your family for quite long periods of time. You dont get to be
with them on holidays except if you file for a leave. But then, though this field is hard, you will
always be of great inspiration in the eyes of others.

Summary:
The article is about the improvement of the quality of nursing education that instructors
would give to nursing students. Stokowski addresses the need to shift from a "telephoto lens"
view of nursing education to a "panoramic view." Knowledge management also requires a more
"panoramic view" as nurses must be able to access, assess, and synthesize vast amounts of
information using evolving tools and strategies. These skills are not congruent with the
"telephoto-lens" approach of attempting to fill the brains of our students with retrievable facts.

Reaction:
It is important that the quality of nursing education that a student of nursing receives is
always of the best that there is. Their education should be grounded on good foundation
especially that they will be dealing with the lives of people. And this type of education should
not just be taken for granted. Dealing with lives is no joke and whatever could possibly happen,
the nurse is always answerable for it for they are the ones who would come in contact with the
client. The instructors that they will have in the midst of their studying should have a good
record when they were still studying in the same level. In order to ensure the quality of education
that the student nurses will receive. There is no place for mediocrity in this field because dealing
with peoples lives is no joking matter. And so instructors should always be 50 steps ahead of
their students.
