Introduction

This innovative design of 'Tablet PC' for some companies as Apple made it cash in on the
hype of new device era that surpass the limits of expectations. The growth of sales is
astonishing to the extent that forced most leading companies to join the journey with
Apple Inc. This paper is going to discuss different definitions of the term Tablet. I am
going to explain how different this device is in brief, but essentially it is educational to
learn how old version of Tablet PC. The first contribution for Microsoft in 2000, and
learn how Apple changed the trend toward the application world. I also would pen point
to the advantages of tablet and its usefulness to the public. Finally, the advantages were
limited to some companies but for sure there some draw backs for using a tablet when
compared to a PC.
Definition
Tablet PC is a device that can carry out key functions that regular PC does. It is different
in hardware and somewhat software. The major operating systems in the Market are but
now limited to iOS from Apple, Windows8 and android. Here, we can explore some
different definitions that by time has significant improvements. In early days,Tablet PC
is a portable computer having little weight (max 1.5 kg) and consumption. Its dimensions
range between a PDA and a classical NTB (usually from 9' to 14'). It was controlled by
touch screen and a special pen. (AdminXP.com: PC basics, .) Another interesting
source defines the device as a portable, handheld personal PC, with the ability to
document on the screen with a stylus pen. (Glossary,.). These definitions seem old and
by far the definition became more sophisticated due to the wide range of possibilities that
present IT companies were made available. In fact, Tablet PC is a portable computer
whose main input device is touch screen. Other features are shape and size, wireless
connection to Internet . They are powered by a variety of operating systems. Some are
proprietary ones like Apple iPad iOS, but a majority of tablets are running on different
Windows 7 editions and Android operating system. (Tablet PC Comparison,.) . A
tablet PC is a wireless device with a touch screen interface. It is typically smaller than a
laptop but larger than an IPhone.
History
In early 70s, Alan Kay and his team were the first ever known as inventors of Tablet Pc
and since then his ideas typically adapted by IT leaders Microsoft and Apple
corporations. The idea of tablet computing is to Alan Kay of Xerox, who sketched out
the idea in 1971. The first widely-sold tablet computer was Apple Computer's Newton,
which was not a commercial success. Technological advances in battery life, display
resolution, handwriting recognition software, larger memory, and wireless Internet access
have since made tablets a viable computing option. (Tablet PC, n.d.). It is essential
when we talk about the history of Tablet Pc is to introduce Alan Kay. Mr. Thacker, 56,
and Mr. Lampson, 55, were part of a group, led by the computer scientist Alan Kay, that
set out in 1971 to create a mobile computing device they called a Dynabook that would
allow a user to continue wireless connected to a world of information. As a graduate
student at the University of Utah, Mr. Kay had written his doctoral thesis about such a
machine, which he then called the Sketchpad. (Microsoft Brings In, n.d.). Microsoft
has the dominance of technology when it comes to innovative new technologies. In Las
Vegas, 2000 Bill Gate introduced the first handheld device know after as Tablet PC.
The prototype made a tremendous growth in Computer usability.
LAS VEGAS, Nov. 13, 2000, Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates presented a prototype of a
Tablet PC. It is a significant phase in PC functionality and usability. (Tablet PC

Future
According to CNN Tech, people find that tablets are easy to learn , and fun to use for
casual Internet browsing, email and games. Tablet computers might never replace
desktop or laptops. (Mallisk, 2011). However, there is an exponential trend in the
tablet market because of the wide range of many companies as revenues show, tablet Pc
become dominant device. New technologies that everyone always receives or hears in the
news made easy market for Tablet growth story. Ultimately, the user is the king of the
market , and he is drawn companies to meet expectations and needs. Most tablet users
are what are being called content consumers instead of content creators. They listen
to music, watch movies, read books and newspapers, and surf the Web on their tablets.
For these consumers, the tablet may already be replacing their PCs. (2011: The year,).
An online survey was conducted within the United States by Harris Interactive on behalf
of the Pearson Foundation on January,2012. The statistics shows an attractive finding on
1206 college students. This online survey was not based on probability sampling and
therefore no estimates of theoretical sampling error can be calculated (Interactive,
2012). The main conclusions are as follows:
1-The ownership among the seniors has more than tripled compared to a year passed.
2-They believe that tablets are as notable for educational use as they are for personal
entertainment.
3-They mostly agreed that tablets will renovate the way students learn.
4. Majority of college students now prefer reading from their device instead of buying
textbooks. Pdf files are growing in numbers and were kept handy in many situations.e up
media it was blazing a path to the future of computing. (Levy, n.d.)
Forms of Tablet Pc
There are different styles and forms of tablet Pcs right now. Ultimately, they share
usability, size and flexibility to carry out all key functions that regular Pcs do. Tablet
computers are available in a variety of forms. To make comparison charts easier to read,
we divided all tablet PC into these categories (Compare tablet PC's, Technology
Services Consultant). Slate Pc's are originally the main stream design and most
companies now challenged how to design the thinner device that can operate all
Operating Systems. The IPad ,for example, has powerful grounds since most users like it
functionality and usability. The App store has exceeded 200,000 applications made for
IPad only. Slate tablet pc's got their name from writing slates, since they reassemble
their form and a manner how to use them. The main difference from other forms of tablet
computers is that they do not have a dedicated keyboard. Instead, a stylus or touch screen
keyboard is used to interact with computer. Lately, this is a prevailing form of tablet PC
computers that are launched on the market. As a matter of fact, nowadays a term slate
tablet pc, is simply shortened to tablet. (Compare tablet PC's, n.d.) The second
design has different construction; Convertible notebooks are notebooks with touch
screen capability and a distinctive construction which permits to fold them around a
swivel. Usually their screen dimensions are smaller (around 12 inches). (Compare

Same as convertible notebooks but with a detachable keyboard. (Compare tablet
PC's, n.d.). Lenovo Computers lately issued detachable keyboarded from the tablet and
has made a lot sale in Las Vegas2012. Booklet Tablet Ps has a unique feature which
mimic the design of a book. The screen can be folded into two parts. Booklets Tablet Pc

market launch of its first two Sony Tablet devices. Tablet P (Booklet) device combine

Advantages
We finally arrived to the strong points again , and major advantages of using a tablet Pcs
or in other words to learn differences that they have been distinguished with among PC
devices:

comfortably use PC in small spaces-even while standing up. Tablet PCs also
include wireless Internet support and a reasonable battery life.

now with tablet Pcs, he/she may interact with anyone as if there is no device
blocking the eye sight as before.

downside of Tablet Pcs that summed up in a few points; No Keyboard (7

his or her tablet for serious work, due to the size and limitations at least so far,. Also, the
lack of hardware ports as printers and high definition ports, it limited the use of tablet for
regular users. Nonetheless, Apple and Samsung has extensions to serve customers' needs,
if a user want to add more capabilities to his device, he could be able to. "Lack of Ports
(7 Disadvantages Of, 2011). Some users who are fascinated with playing games and
watching movies on the go must require DVD port and the ability to watch Blu-ray
drives. In my opinion, this is not what most users would miss but making it available
would deteriorate the Laptops market,therefore, some companies deliberately do not want
to add such ports and even not to comply with customers demand No DVD or Blu-ray

2011); in fact in 2012 apple has made a great iPad that exceeds anyone's expectations,
nevertheless, there are many companies in the market right now still struggling to make
such High end screens albeit, Apple and Samsung are doing Excellent
progress.Fragility (7 Disadvantages Of, 2011), another issue that has a real concern
when first products went public, such devices are venerable to damage from one accident.
It is ironic to learn that there are some amateurs on YouTube made money from recoding
new products fragility. Those videos would attract millions of traffic for a new product,
but seriously this is a fact that such slim device is remarkably easy to break from one
drop. Be careful when holding yours, there is not guarantee to be effectively be used
again when it is not covered the whole tablet with a leather case. High prices for new
products are extremely challenging for some companies, especially, the ones that have its
own operating systems; such the BlackBook from Research in Motions and
Hewlett-Packard High Price (7 Disadvantages Of, 2011). This is due to the difficulty
to use the devise in work assignments Discomfort (7 Disadvantages Of, 2011).
