WELL I 'LL BE
EFFECT: The magician and his as-
sistant climb some stairs and stand
on top of a small table. He covers her
with a large silken cloth. Then he
decends the stairs, which are rolled
off stage. The outline of the "girl"
under the cloth is evident to all in
t he a u d i e n c e . Su d d e n l y t he
magician gives the cloth a pull and
the girl has vanished!
WORKINGS: As can be seen in the
illustrations, the table has a hidden
20
trap. It is through this trap and into
the stairs (via the secret back doors)
that the girfgoes when the magician
stretches out the large cloth. Once
the girl is clear, the backstage as-
sistant pulls the supporting thread
tight enough to raise and hold up the
forms. The performer drapes the
cloth over the forms which appear to
be the girl.
The magician next decends the
stairs and has them rolled off stage
(concealed girl and all). Now all he
has to do is pull on the cloth hard
enough to break the supporting
thread. As the cloth collapses, it ap-
pears that the girl has vanished!
The supporting thread should be
of very dark brown twisted silk
thread. The large cloth should be of
pat t er ned mat eri al so t hat t he
stitches where the form is sewn in
are not visible. Also, there should be
no lights behind the large cloth at
any time.
