Self- Assessment reflection



Self-evaluations are always difficult. It takes a lot of reflection and honesty with yourself.
I felt I need to be as honest as possible and to be objective about it as well. I also tried to view it
as the observing teacher. Therefore I hoped that both my evaluations and the teachers would
resemble each other. I think I was more worried about the teachers observations then my own. I
always want to be the best that I can possibly be and because I did give it all I had I worried that
it would not be enough to meet expectations.
I seemed to evaluate myself harder on the second evaluation. I wonder if this was because
I thought I would do better after my first self-evaluation. In the Dispositions section in the first
evaluation I had 4-4s and 4- 5s where as in the second evaluation I had 2-3s, 4-4s, and 2-5s. This
shows me that I felt that I should have done better the second time around. This trend continued
with the goals sections. While I do know that I as a human being I will always be working on
developing certain skills I feel that all the work that I have been doing and the years of
experience have gotten me past a emerging state. This showed because I did not score myself
any lower than a 3.
When looking at the two different evaluations done by two different teachers I see a
pattern one saw that overall I had an on target lesson while the other felt that overall I had an
exemplary lesson. The things that I saw needed improvement they also saw. The teachers had
different suggestions which I really enjoyed reading because what they mentioned I really do
need to look at when making my lesson plans. One mentioned that I need to keep an eye on my

time and the other that I need to double check what current good practices are. They both
mentioned that I was very flexible.
After looking at the overall evaluation I feel that the skills that I really need to work on
are from Goal 1. I need to work on becoming more familiar with Best practices, looking and
many more effective teaching strategies, and identifying major teaching concepts in content
areas. Form goal 2 I need to look at what really is scope and sequence in lesson planning. My
strengths come from goal two. I think that goal 3 is an area where we are all constantly moving
back and forth in development. So this isnt a something that I am always strong in. Self-
evaluations are difficult but they are very beneficial to our development.
