1. Description of exemplar and how it demonstrates meeting this ACEI Standard and Element(s).
In this exemplar, I administered the Standardized Diagnostic Reading Test (SDRT) to two of my 5 th graders during my SPED placement at Waialae Public Charter School. The SDRT is a group administered assessment of a childs overall reading level and is compared to the students grade level, including month of instruction, to determine how the student is doing compared to the expected reading level. I used this assessment tool to assess my students vocabulary, comprehension, and scanning skills. This exemplar demonstrates the standard elements to plan, evaluate, and strengthen instruction that will promote continuous intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development of each my students. Once results are determined, necessary steps were taken to adjust lessons to address students needs accordingly.
2. Reflection on my professional growth in knowledge, skills, and dispositions related to this ACEI Standard and Element(s).
My professional growth in knowledge was gained by administering this standardized test, which I have never done prior to my SPED placement at Waialae PCS. I gained knowledge on how the test is administered, scored, and interpreted.
Skills that I gained from administering the SDRT are how to proctor a standardized test, correct responses, and interpreting the results. These are skills that will be valuable to me in the future when administering the SDRT in my own classroom. This will help me assess reading levels of my students.
A disposition I gained from through administering this standardized test is professionalism. Being that this is a standardized test, there were to be no deviation or additional instruction provided or that would skew the results. I read the steps to administer this test carefully and when it came time administer the test; I followed each and every step accordingly. Professionalism when administering a standardized test is extremely important.
