BOSTON MINI-MARATHON AND FESTIVAL
The 30th Annual Boston (GA) Mini-marathon and Festival was held Saturday, October 31. The
lead event of the day is always the run/walk competition.
From a field of 324 participants, Vince Molosky from Tallahassee was the male winner and had
the overall fastest time with 1:19:49; Cheryl Rosen with Gulf Winds Track Club was the female
winner with a time of 1:27:10. In the 5K, Nancy Herring of Thomasville was the female winner
and posted the overall fastest time with 32:16; Cameron Stephens of Thomasville was the
male winner with 32:32; Andrew Russell was the fastest Bostonian with a time of 38:45.
Known as one of the premier races in the Run and See Georgia Grand Prix, Brad Johnson, race
director, indicated that this year's event attracted participants from across Georgia and neigh-
boring states. The 31st Annual event will be held Saturday, October 30, 2010. For more infor-

LORI CANON SWEEPS COOKOFF EVENTS
The Chili and Cornbread Cook-off event at the 30th Annual Boston Mini-marathon and Festival
provided entertainment and friendly rivalry among the contestants! Joe Harris chaired this
event; he indicates that the panel of judges were impressed with the quality of entries. Many
of the contestants were on hand when the winners were announced at 8 PM Saturday night.
In the chili category, Diane Kelley won third place, Nancy Hoffman won second place and Lori
Cannon won first place with her "Happy Camper 'no bean' Chili". The winners in the corn-
bread category were third place, Lori Cannon; second place, Donna Seay, and Lori Cannon's
Sour Cream Cornbread won first place. Winners were awarded trophies. The next cookoff in
Boston will be at the Spring Fling which is held the Saturday before Easter. That cookoff will
feature barbecue.

Injectable H1N1 Vaccine arrives in South Georgia

Valdosta, GA - The injectable H1N1 vaccine (shot) is now available in
health departments throughout the South Health District. Health
departments received their initial supply of the injectable vaccine this
week and are prepared to start dispensing it to the priority groups set
by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The five priority groups to receive the H1N1 shot first are:
z Pregnant women
z People who live with or care for infants younger than 6 months
of age
z Health care and emergency medical personnel
z Anyone from 6 months to 24 years of age
z Anyone from 25 to 64 years of age with certain chronic medical
conditions or a weakened immune system.
The H1N1 shot was made just like the seasonal flu vaccine and is
expected to be as safe and effective. "The H1N1 vaccine will not
prevent you from getting sick from the seasonal flu or other illnesses
with flu-like symptoms," stated Debra Adams, APRN, Nursing & Clinical
Director. "Persons interested in being protected from seasonal and
H1N1 influenza should get both vaccines this year."
