The history of Bear & Son Cutlery is a very proud history of combined knowledge from many prestigious cutlery companies. It started in 1991, when 3 men bought the Parker Edwards facility in Jacksonville, Alabama. The facility was famous for the production of Damascus steel knives. Also, our facility was the newest plant and ONLY complete southern cutlery plant. Many people did not know this was the sister plant to W. R. Case & Sons Cutlery. The 3 of us; Herman McIntosh, Ken Griffey, and Greg Cook, saw this as a great opportunity to continue to follow our passion for making high quality cutlery, so we started Bear MGC Cutlery. Our resumes were impressive with the combined knowl edge of W. R. Case, Gerber, and Parker Edwards. Between the three of us, and our wives, we had over 100 years of experience in the cutlery industry. In addition, our supervisors and management team had lengthy experience with

Parker Edwards, Chicago Cutlery, & Gerber. This rounded out the best starting group anyone could ask for in the cutlery industry. The newly formed company, Bear MGC Cutlery, began to takeoff with numerous Blade Magazine Awards. Perhaps the largest jump in name recognition was in 1995, when Bear invented the most innovative new multi-tool on the market, according to Blade Magazine. In 1999, Swiss Army Brands, Inc. purchased Bear MGC. During this time, McIntosh and Cook decided it was time to retire and spend time with their families, while I stayed on and ran the facility for Swiss Army Brands, Inc. Sandy, my wife, had worked for Bear in the premium and purchasing departments, since 1991. Matt, my son, worked on the factory floor learning how to build a quality knife from start to finish, since he

was 18 years old. In early 2004, the three of us, myself, Sandy and Matt decided to buy Bear back from Swiss Army Brands, Inc. We renamed the company Bear & Son Cutlery and released the Custom Heritage line, one of the hottest new collectible lines on the market. Bear & Son Cutlery will continue its ongoing commitment to make the best knife possible, make them in America and make them affordable. With the help of our supervisors and management team, which have a combined experience of over 246 years with Gerber, W. R. We are the only commercial knife manufacturer offering knives with Damascus blades. Damascus steel combines steels of different properties and produces blades with extraordinary toughness and edge-holding ability. Known as the Steel of the Ancients, Damascus knives and swords have lived in legend since the creation of Damascus steel nearly 2,000 years ago. The ancient city of Damascus was one of the centers of production of this steel. That, combined with the fact that the steel resembled the damask cloth which was being produced in the city of Damascus- both having a water-marked pattern- gave this steel its name. Viewed under a microscope, the cutting edge of a Damascus blade displays tiny saw-tooth carbides which are formed by forging in a coal fire. This enables the blade to cut even when it feels dull to the touch. Flexibility is superb. Every piece of Damascus is as unique as a thumb print. When ground on an angle, as in a blade, the displayed pattern is stunning. Note: Limited quantities available.

Bear & Son Cutlery knives are designed, finished and priced for the hunter, sportsman, tradesman, handyman and knife enthusiast. While other manufacturers are looking for shortcuts to eliminate the labor out of finishing, we finish our knives the same way custom makers do BY HAND and one at a time! Bear & Son Cutlery offers three free merchandisers and eight display panels (four revised 2010 panels). The D-36 display features one panel. The D-72 display features two panels and the D-108 floor display features three panels. Each panel displays 12 patterns. One of each are loaded into the red vac panels and two each are back-up stock. Each display features a lockable front oak frame, and you can easily show or sell products from the panel. I caught myself looking through some old family photographs a while back and was drawn to a photograph I had never seen before. It was a picture of my grandfather holding an old Robeson knife. I couldnt wait to call my Dad to see if he knew the whereabouts of the knife. Not only did we find the knife pictured, but we found a couple of other knives my Grandfather had owned. I suppose we all come to think about our heritage at some point in our lives. The photograph of my Grandfather really made me focus on mine. What could be more appropriate than for me to make some knives in the style of those old knives my Grandfather had owned and loved so long ago? Now that my son, Matt, is in the business with me, the timing seems perfect for launching this new Bear and Son Cutlery Collection. How special it is to work with my son on the Heritage Collection, which to our customers, will be knives collected and cherished for years to come. To Matt and me, these knives are made in tribute to my Grandfather and continue the tradition of master craftsmen long ago. My Grandfather would be proud of the American-made quality with which these knives are made. These knives feature genuine bone and Mother of Pearl handles, long pull nail marks and highly polished 440 Stainless Steel blades. The Heritage Collection features a special tang stamp, a special blade etch, a special inlaid shield and is packaged in a special tin box. More than 91 hand steps by a staff of skilled craftsmen will assure quality matching those knives that were favorites of my Grandfather so long ago.
