To Whom It May Concern,

My name is Alexa Queenie Tagaban, and I am a current senior at Bioscience High School. I have
heard of this scholarship from my time of volunteering at John C. Lincoln Hospital. I worked as
a transport and gift shop cashier from years 2010 to 2013. I also volunteer at local downtown
events like the Pie Festival, Red Chili Pepper Festival, and at the Growhouse. I spend time as an
intern at the Arizona Science Center, Farm to School Program, UA Medical Mentorship Program,
and at an ASU lab in a partnership with the SCENE program. During school, I participate in
clubs like UNICEF, S.T.A.R.S., CNHS (Chinese National Honor Society), NHS (National Honor
Society), and Student Government.
I am interest in working in the medical field as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. I have applied and
have been accepted to the Honors College at University of Arizona. The major Im going to take
is Pre-Nursing. Growing up in a third world country opened my eyes to issues specially
pertaining to healthcare. When my grandmother was diagnosed with Coronary Heart Disorder, I
saw the bad treatment she got from her medical staff. I knew that if I wanted change to happen,
that change has to start with myself. Thats when the little flame of passion of helping others
turned into a dream.
My status as a non-immigrant has given me several difficulties pertaining to getting my college
education. Although I have a state identification, the local universities do not qualify me for in
state tution. This requires my tuition fee to be around $20K, and adding the fees to my other
necessities that totals to paying around $40K per year. Because Im not a citizen, there are few
scholarship opportunities that I am able to take. My family is not rich, and with two children
going to college, we do not have sufficient funds to support everyone. This Volunteer Services
Scholarship is an important scholarship and will help lessen my financial burden.
Thank you so much for taking the time to consider me. John C. Lincoln Hospital has given me
the best opportunity to hone my leadership skills, as well as other skills I would need to be a
great nurse. I look forward to hearing back from you. Thank you again and have a nice day.

Sincerely,
Alexa Queenie Tagaban
