Introduction
Environmental task started 2009
Goal is to be cleanest, greenest, and most
energy efficient port in North America.
Part of the goal is make an efficient Airport
This years plan: Minimize Landfill Waste
Noah
Problem
Sea-Tac Airport is sending to much waste to
the landfill
Objective is to get to a 50% Land Diversion Rate
2008: 21% of the waste was recycled
2013: 30% of the waste was recycled
Landfills are filling up, emitting more Co2,
taking over more parts of the Earth
Our Challenge: Achieve the 50% by the end
of 2014

First Solution
Composting Bins
Location: Food Concessions and Public Areas
Cost: 40 Bins Totaling $60,000
Reasoning: 44% of waste is compostable
These will be used to help our team reach our 50%
landfill diversion objective while Waste Sorting Facility
is being constructed

Data Analysis
This pie chart shows different materials found in the Sea-Tac Airport garbage. This data was found from
the Cascadia Report for Sea-Tac Airport.
Sahil
Second Solution
Municipal Solid Waste Recycling
Location: Airport Grounds
Cost: $10,000,000 for Facility
Workers: 20 Employees
$630,000 per year for works; $15/hr
Manufacture: CP Manufacturing
Time: 6-12 months to construct facility

Will
Municipal Solid Waste Recycling Facility
Will
Reasoning
Many passengers are in a rush
Waste goes into any bin
Only 30% of the waste collected is landfill suitable
Our plan succeeds in:
Giving jobs to the community
Helping the Airport become self-sufficient
Airport can do it their way
Will be able to sort 100 tons of waste per hour
Will
Data Analysis
It shows GHG emissions from the baseline scenario and the alternate scenario. This data was found
from the Cascadia report and the numbers were calculated by WARM (Waste Reduction Model)
Sahil
Legal Aspect
Solid Waste Handling Permit
Send an Annual Report to the Department of
Ecology
Clean Air, Water, and Soil standards
Notification of the Department of Ecology
Facility must not interfere with Endangered
Wildlife

This Table shows the economic benefits from the implementation of the trash sorting facility by the
airport. The data was calculated by our team after given some baseline numbers.
Sahil
Directors Idea
His Idea: Sorting Facility in City of Sea-Tac
People living in Sea-Tac would be opposed:
More trucks rolling by
Smell of garbage
City of Sea-Tac would receive no benefit
Our Plan has the facility on Airport grounds and
reduces the ned for large scale transportation
Hannah
Why our Solutions are the Best
More Compostable Bins
No regulations or laws
Inexpensive Solution
Doesnt affect airlines, concessions, or
outside companies
Noah
Why our Solutions are the Best
Municipal Solid Waste Recycling
Corrects human error
Efficiently sorts waste
Allows the airport to become more
self-sufficient
Short term construction period for a
full-scale sorting facility

Will
Conclusion
40 more compostable bins
Municipal Solid Waste Recycling Facility
Our Plan:
Doesnt affect the community
Models after other airports
Meets all State and Federal Legal
Requirements
