The Taruma of Being a Women in Kashmir

Man and Women are two insuperable parts of human society. Women have played
many roles in the evolution of humanity and without her humanity can’t exist. She
is the fountain head which springs out the strong pillars of every society.

She is the real shaper of the future of

every nation. From times immemorial women was been the symbol of Patience and
Endurance. To respect and honor the womenfolk is and oaught to be preference of
every civilized nation .India which is having the so-called democratic setup always
cry the same cries for womenfolk but every one of us is well aware about the facts
behind this clamour. In the long driven struggle for freedom everyone in Kashmir
from a child to an old one has suffered and is still suffering but women of Kashmir
who is an ocean of sacrifices has suffered the most. History bears the testimony how
women in Kashmir have always suffered at the hands of alien rulers weather it were
Afghans, Sikhs, Dogras and now the Indians all have struck harsh blows at the
moral character of kashmiri people in general and Muslims of Kashmir in
particular .Their soldiers have seen indulged in loot .arson, abdication and
molestation of women. During the period of Sikhs& Dogra rule women were first
tortured and raped and their tongues were cutoff so that they could not revel the
identity of culprints.Such Kind of harsh punishments were introduced only to keep
the subjects in coustant awe and terror . Than came the turn of Indian rule which is
no better in any sense than the Sikhs and Dogras. The Indian soldiers which India
claims have deployed here since Oct 1947, for security purpose and indulged in such
activities which are most in human and against all codes of morality .After the
passing of each day the most repressive and worst kind of atrocious and violent
methods are being used by the Indian forces against common masses in general and
woman-folk in particular . Since their illegal occupation of Kashmir, to target the
honour of kashmiri women has been their main weapon to crush the voice of
kashmiri people for self-determination by Killings,Torture ,Abduction, and
Molestation and Rape they want to test kashmiri people of every worst kind of
brutal weapons. Many of us are known and so many are unknown to the fact. How
many mothers daughters and sisters of Kashmir have been victims of rape and
molestation since the past 20 years at the hands of men in uniform. At first it were
only the Indian soldiers who used to commit such offences but now the local police
force have also involved in the same kind of crimes .If we have a cursory look upon
the past ,it will revel many woeful tales of so many unfortunate ladies whose
modesty was targeted by the men in uniform

On June 29, 1990 many women were beaten and one among them raped (in village
Panzgam-Pulwama) by Indian troops. In 1990 a 15 year girl was raped in Malik
Mohaala Kupwara during a search and cordon operation after a bomb explosion
and firing. In Trehgam kupwara in the same year, two sisters of 16&18 years age
were first tortured and then raped by Indian army personal after an incident of

milliants. kunan Poshipora is the most infamous village in the valley and is known
by the name of raped village where over 23-100 women’s (including
Minor,Young,Aged,& Pregnant)were gang raped by Indian forces on feb21 1991
.After the incident many women’s committed suicide. In Bijbihara Anantnag on oct
22 1993 a large no. of women were raped during search operations by Indian forces.
In 1997 in the village of wavosa 7 women were raped by Indian forces during a
routine cordon and search operation. on dec 19 2004 a 60 year ild lady was raped by
3 RR personals in sallar area of Islamabad district .In the same year a 14 year girl
was abducted and raped in khanthpora lolab. Although there are only few recorded
cases of rape and molestation since 1989: yet we
can not ignore the frequency and magnitude of hundreds of such incidents which
often went unreported , In many cases women couldn’t revel such incidents because
of fear of being treated as Untouchables,Unholy&Unpious by the whole society.
Every time investigations were started but never concluded and by chance when
ever and where ever the investigations were concluded, they were concluded
shamefully. There is an increasing sense of insecurity and humiliation among the
women of Kashmir and the recent incident of double rape and murder of Asiya &
Neelofar in shopian have added more to this feelings. At the time of shopian tragedy
the whole valley shocked and protests against this incident rocked the valley but as
usual the voice of miserable masses got suppressed by the age old policy of rulers by
making use of force against them in the name of maintaince of law and order, the
same law and order under which no kashmiri is safe, the same law and order whose
so called guardians turned as demons’ hands.Govt started many operations for the
mentaince of so called law and order in order to make public safe from those guys
who raised their voice against such atrocities and arrested hundreds of youth,
minors and almost whole leadership of Kashmir. Again the rulers of the time
befooled common masses of Kashmir by setting up of enquiry commission and
investigation teams but it has proved nothing but a mockery in the name of these
enquires and investigations. Like so many victims of the same crimes in the past
20years , the victims of shopian double rape& murder are waiting for justice and it
is a big question weather justice would ever prevail or not? Although it can be
expected that it is nothing but wastage of time to wait for justice in front of the
Whole of serpents. Gone are the days when militants’ gun was a hope of protection
for common masses against such brutalities. Now there is no guns almost the active
resistance is lost now. There is an increasing sense of outrage and humiltration .Now
it seems if we are in a long Que,Helplessely waiting for our turn to face something
worst than this. It is the common masses of Kashmir whose life, Honour, Diginity
and everything is at the stake. It is the common masses who have suffered and are
still suffering. So it is we common masses who have to change the history for the
coming generation so that they could survive with honour and pride.Is it possible
for all of us to watch the attacks on the dignity and chastity of daughters of Kashmir
so being the common masses lets come together to rise in rebellion against all these
ongoing brutalities and repressions. The people who have sacrificed their honour
and lives have played their past and have left the great cause for we people .It is now
our turn to play our part to take the cause to its end so that justice might be
delivered to those who are waiting for it as being the victims for a longer period of

time.
