ABSTRACT

The research work was undertaken in Indian airlines one of the largest
regional airline systems in Asia with a fleet of 66aircrafts under the title A STUDY
O !"#$O#%A&" A!!#AISA' SYST"% (!AS) I IDIA AI#'I"S * The main
o+,ecti-es of the research is to. To study the e/isting !AS for "/ecuti-es in IA' with
regard to critically e/amining the -arious formats +eing utili0ed for !AS and Its
interaction with other 1#D su+system* To study the Senior* "/ecuti-es o2inion
regarding !AS in IA'3 to suggest measure for im2ro-ement of !AS for Senior
"/ecuti-es +ased on the finding of the study* The limitations of the research are3 the
study is +ased on the o2inions e/2ressed where there is a great tendency for
fluctuations in res2onse and +eha-ior3 which can lead to certain distortions* The
4uestionnaire method carries with it certain inherent limitations3 which ha-e to +e
considered* The duration gi-en to the res2ondents to answer is rather limited and
hence further analysis could not +e made +ased on the o+ser-ation of the study* The
fear 2sychosis that the result of the study would +e re-ealed to the management3
which may affect them3 would ha-e 2re-ented the res2ondents from -ery honestly
furnishing their res2onse*
This study has +een undertaken at Indian Airlines 'imited as 2ro,ect
trainee in %anagement Training &enter3 &entral Training "sta+lishment3 $ero0guda
and "ngineering com2le/3 5egum2et* This study is conducted on 2erformance
a22raisal system of em2loyees on three le-els of the organi0ation namely3 U22er
le-el3 %iddle 'e-el and 'ower 'e-el6s* 789 no of em2loyee6s were considered for the
study*
The tool used for this study is the 4uestionnaire method3 which was gi-en
to all res2ondents to ink their -iews* The 4uestionnaire* %ethod is +est when the
res2ondents will feel reluctant to gi-e their res2onses in a face:to:face re0ende-ous*

Using sim2le 2ercentage analysis3 chi s4uare test3 does analysis and
inter2retation of data* 5ased on the findings suita+le suggestion is also gi-en in order
to increase the o2erational efficiency of the organi0ation*
The main findings from the sur-ey are3 the 2resent !AS focuses more
towards the de-elo2mental 2ur2ose rather than mere e-aluati-e;,udgmental 2ur2ose3
The em2loyees are not gi-en an o22ortunity for self:a22raisal which demoti-ates
them from doing their work* The self:a22raisal column in !A format should continue
and it should +e made mandatory for all !A forms 2rescri+ed for IA' em2loyees in
IDIA3 The a22raisal inter-iew;feed+ack inter-iew is not cou2led with the conce2t of
more <o2en6 !AS and many more *
The study on 2erformance a22raisal system in IDIA AI#'I"S
'I%IT"D hel2ed in un-eiling the deficiencies in the 2resent system and ga-e an
o22ortunity to suggest measures which3 if adhered may lead to +etterment of the
system
