Module Title Personal and Professional Practice
END OF MODULE SELF-EVALUATION
NAME
Anthony White
What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you
think you have applied them?

Throughout this module Ive developed my skills towards my personal and professional
practice. Johns informal seminars, recounting advise based on his experience has been
really helpful when applying it to my practice. An instance of this was during one of my
responsive briefs - working with a client, and realising I might have issues collecting the
invoices. So, I halted all production and assured the client signed a contract - which is
legally binding, allowing me to work with assurance that I will receive my pay.
What approaches to/methods of design production have you developed and how
have they informed your design development process?

I approached elements of this module based on experience and ideas Ive developed over
the past weeks, processes Ive learnt from working with clients, I now know to write a
contract and agree terms with clients prior to designing any work for them.

During my research for my self branding, as part of the design presence study task, I
developed a new approach to design development and conceptualisation. Using other parts
of myself as a person to brand myself, other than my designs style or design
specialisations. Using things which I enjoy and interest me as the basis for the design. This
also motivated me, designing for something you enjoy makes the entire process more bare
able.
What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on
these?

I feel a strength within this project was my brand identity, within the design presence studio
brief. The colour schemes and fonts throughout my branding was clear and concise, which
really tied the collateral together, allowing for greater design continuity. The application of
this into other projects would benet my greatly in the future, as branding is an area I wish
to expand my specialisation into.

What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these in
the future?

A weakness I can identify within this module was my presentation skills. Although they have
developed tremendously in comparison to the previous years PPP presentation, they still
need work. I have a tendency to speak extremely quickly when nervous. The silence of the
audience when presenting exaggerates this anxiety. I found as the presentation progressed,
after getting a few jokes in, I relaxed more, as the formality of the silence was broken with
laughter. My pace of speech slowed to its normal rate.

Of course, the presentation abilities will improve over time, as all things do. With experience
the nerves and the anxiety will disappear, the humour I use to escape the formalities is
worth looking into, to see if I can use it to further relax myself during presentations.
Identify things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain
from doing these?

_ Addressing my presentation abilities, instead of seeing them as a task, seeing them as an
opportunity to demonstrate my work and how Ive progressed. Doing this, I imagine I will be
less nervous upon presenting, which will allow me to present at a higher standard.
6.How would you grade yourself on the following areas:
(please indicate using an x)

5= excellent, 4 = very good, 3 = good, 2 = average, 1 = poor
1 2 3 4 5

The evaluation of your work is an important part of the assessment criteria and
represents a percentage of the overall grade. It is essential that you give yourself
enough time to complete your written evaluation fully and with appropriate depth
and level of self-reection. If you have any questions relating to the self evaluation
process speak to a member of staff as soon as possible.
