E
n estas mismas pginas, un mes atrs, nos enorgulle-
camos por el logro que los chicos de la Seleccin Juvenil
haban conseguido en Canad y resaltbamos la meta a
perseguir: que poco a poco muchos de esos chicos puedan
insertarse en la Seleccin Mayor para enriquecerla y poten-
ciarla hacia los sitiales del ftbol mundial.
En el ltimo compromiso que disput la Celeste y Blanca
hemos podido ver a algunos de los pibes que han dejado
todo en los equipos juveniles en aos anteriores, con el
inmenso significado que eso tiene. Son sus primeros pasos
y es menester de los ms grandes y de mayor experiencia
apuntalarlos y acompaarlos en esta nueva etapa para sus
vidas y su carrera profesional.
El cuerpo tcnico nacional est probando variantes y
nombres en la bsqueda del plantel que d el puntapi
inicial en el camino hacia la Copa Mundial de la FIFA y
hacia all apuntan todos los esfuerzos. Es el principal obje-
tivo que la Seleccin Argentina tiene por delante.
Quienes estn a un paso de su certamen ms impor-
tante son nuestras jugadoras del Seleccionado Femenino.
En nombre de toda la Casa del Ftbol les auguro el mejor de
los xitos en el Mundial de China y que puedan demostrar
en la cancha todo el crecimiento que han experimentado en
los ltimos aos. Lo mismo que a los chicos de la Seleccin
Sub-17, quienes mientras preparbamos estas pginas acce-
dan con gran personalidad a los octavos de final de la Copa
Mundial de la categora.
Por otra parte, quiero saludar de manera especial a la gente
de San Martn de San Juan. En pocos das el club cumplir
un centenario de vida y lo har, ni ms ni menos, que
jugando en la Primera Divisin del ftbol argentino. Y, al
igual que el resto de los recin ascendidos y probando la
paridad de nuestros torneos, demuestra que est a la altura
de las circunstancias, hacindole fuerza y jugndole de igual
a igual a los equipos de mayor trayectoria.
In these same pages last month we were proud with the
achievement of the Youth National Team in Canada and we
stressed the goal for the future: the gradual inclusion of these
boys in the Senior National Team to lead it to the top place of
world football.
In the last commitment of the Sky Blue and White team we have
seen some boys who had done their best playing in youth teams
in previous years and that is very significant. They are giving
their first steps and senior players with greater experience
should support and accompany them in this new stage both of
their lives and their career.
The national technical staff are devoted to find the right
squad to give the kick off on the road towards the FIFA World
Championship and that is, certainly, their current goal. It is,
undoubtedly, the highest objective of the National Team.
The Womens National Team are also close to their top tourna-
ment. So I send my best wishes to them for the next World
Championship of China certain that they will show in the field
the effort that they have made for many years. Likewise, I extend
the same wishes to the boys of the U-17 National Team who
were playing the eighth final of the World Championship of the
category while we were writing these pages.
On the other hand, Id like to congratulate all the people of San
Martn of San Juan because in a few days the club will celebrate
its centennial playing in the Premier Division of Argentine
Football. They are showing just like the recently promoted teams
that they have managed to rise to the occasion playing face to
face against big teams.

Con gran personalidad, talento y antes de
llegar a los 20 aos de edad, Ever Banega
peg el salto a la Primera de Boca Juniors en
febrero, y a mitad de 2007 ya era campen
de la Copa Toyota Libertadores de Amrica y
Campen Mundial Juvenil. Todo sucedi tan
velozmente que a veces ni l cree todo lo que
est viviendo en su corta carrera profesional.
With character and talent, Ever Banega
jumped into Boca Juniors First Division in
February, before turning 20. Now, he has
already won the Toyota Libertadores Cup
and the World Youth Championship. It all happens
so quickly that sometimes he cannot give credit to
his own amazing achievements.

esta poco ms de un mes para el inicio de las Eliminatorias
para la Copa Mundial de la FIFA Sudfrica 2010 e
imaginar un posible plantel para que d el primer paso en ese
largo camino todava parece difcil. Sin dudas, cuando llegue el
momento se valorar el rendimiento y las condiciones fsicas en
las que cada jugador se encuentre, aunque para eso es necesario
seguir viendo y probando elementos que puedan conformar
una estructura y un andamiaje que sirva de base para encarar el
gran desafo de acceder a la mxima cita futbolstica.
En eso anda la Seleccin Nacional y su cuerpo tcnico que,
ante la dificultad del calendario y los compromisos de los
clubes, intentan exprimir el escaso tiempo para elaborar la
mayor cantidad de conclusiones posibles. De esa manera,
partidos amistosos como el de Noruega o el prximo ante
Australia cobran una importancia relevante en la bsqueda
de una fisonoma como equipo.
En ese sentido, y teniendo en cuenta la convocatoria que
Alfio Basile realiz para enfrentar a los nrdicos, est claro
que el seleccionador argentino persigue el objetivo de armar
el equipo que mejor interprete su idea futbolstica. De los
primeros 20 nombres que Coco cit, la mitad no haba
formado parte del grupo que particip de la Copa Amrica,
y el porcentaje se increment an ms cuando, de los 17
que finalmente estuvieron disponibles para el partido ante
Noruega (fueron desafectados Juan Pablo Carrizo, Daniel
Daz y Jos Sosa), 9 estuvieron ausentes en Venezuela.
Aquel delgado cruce de frontera que significa pasar de las
Selecciones Juveniles a la Mayor -segn expresbamos en
la edicin nmero 78 de Ftbol Argentino- algunos juga-
dores estn ante la posibilidad de concretarlo, soando
seguramente con una larga permanencia en el equipo de
los grandes.
El caso de los arqueros es elocuente. Carrizo, Oscar Ustari
y Sergio Romero fueron los elegidos y, ante la baja del ex
hombre de River Plate debido a su inactividad por compli-
caciones en su transferencia a Lazio de Italia, a los nmero 1
de los ltimos campeones mundiales juveniles se les abrieron
ms an las puertas del arco nacional.

Con el debut de Oscar Ustari en el arco de la
Seleccin Mayor y la convocatoria de otros jvenes
para el partido ante Noruega, varios jugadores
que hace poco tiempo brillaban en las Selecciones
Juveniles empezaron a dar sus primeros pasos en el
equipo que dirige Alfio Basile.

WITH OSCAR USTARI AT THE GOAL AND THE CALL FOR
SOME OTHER YOUNG PLAYERS TO PLAY AGAINST NORWAY,
SEVERAL YOUNG FOOTBALLERS WHO HAVE SHONE AT
YOUTH NATIONAL TEAMS ARE NOW MAKING THEIR DEBUT
IN ALFIO BASILES SQUAD.
It is a little more than a month until the beginning of the
Qualifiers for 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa, and it is
still hard to imagine a possible team to take the first step
in this long road. Undoubtedly, when the moment comes
the technical body will have to consider the performance
and physical condition of each player. Therefore, it will be
necessary to continue watching and testing elements to
build up a basic structure to face the great challenge of
reaching the ultimate football event.
The National Team and their technical body are working on
that. Facing time constraints and local clubs schedules,
they try to make the most of their scarce time to draw
as many conclusions as possible. Consequently, friendly
matches such as the one against Norway or the next one
against Australia are critical to find a style.
Considering the roster of players to face Norway, it is clear
that Alfio Basile is aiming to build the team that can best
interpret his concepts. Half of the first 20 footballers called
by Coco did not play the Copa America. In fact, this
percentage turned to be higher: 17 of those players were
finally confirmed for the match (Juan Pablo Carrizo, Daniel
Daz and Jos Sosa were dismissed), and nine of them were
absent in Venezuela.
Some players have a chance of crossing that thin border
from Youth to Senior National Team a topic that was
analyzed in the 78th issue of Ftbol Argentino. Undoubtedly,
they all dream of a long stay at the Senior squad.

Ustari tiene una larga vida en los equipos juveniles, fue
una muralla en Holanda 2005, peg el salto al combinado
Mayor, form parte del plantel que particip del Mundial de
Alemania, se baj a ltimo momento del avin que viajaba
a Venezuela por una lesin y ante Noruega le lleg el turno
del debut. No hay dudas que su proyeccin es enorme y sus
condiciones, inobjetables.
Alguna vez Ubaldo Matildo Fillol reconoci que la expe-
riencia vivida como tercer arquero de la Seleccin Nacional
en el Mundial de 1974 lo marc para toda su carrera. A
diferencia de Ustari en Alemania, a l le toc el debut en la
despedida de Argentina de aquella Copa del Mundo. Hoy
el Pato es el entrenador de arqueros del equipo de Basile,
estuvo tambin junto a Jos Pekerman y conoce cada virtud
y defecto del ex Independiente.
Lo que le sucedi a Romero habla por s solo. Sus manos
gigantes lo convirtieron en uno de los pilares sobre los
cuales se construy el ttulo juvenil en el reciente Mundial
de Canad. El pibe que surgi de Racing y que emigr al
Sergio Romero hace muy poco estaba festejando el ttulo juvenil
en Canad y ya tuvo su primera experiencia como suplente en la
Seleccin Mayor.

AZ Alkmaar de Holanda se sent por primera vez en el
banco de suplentes de la Seleccin Mayor, nutrindose de
una vivencia que lo ir preparando para ser una alterna-
tiva ms, tambin l, para el presente y el futuro del arco
albiceleste.
Ambos estn disfrutando de estas nuevas experiencias en sus
carreras profesionales. Y suean con superar o al menos igualar
lo hecho por Leonardo Franco, quien fue el nico de los 9
arqueros campeones mundiales juveniles que tuvo la chance de
defender el arco argentino en un Mundial de mayores (ingres
por el lesionado Roberto Abbondanzieri en los cuartos de final
de Alemania 2006 ante el seleccionado local).
Ese mismo camino que persiguen quienes defendern los
tres palos, tambin lo quieren transitar otros juveniles como
Ezequiel Garay, Ezequiel Lavezzi y Jos Sosa, convocados
por Basile. Provenientes de la misma camada que Ustari,
Fernando Gago y Lionel Messi, (con la salvedad que
Lavezzi jug el Sudamericano pero no el Mundial 2005 y
Sosa se lesion das antes de la competencia en Holanda)
estos jvenes querrn ganarse un lugar entre los de mayor
experiencia.
Garay tuvo su estreno ante Noruega con la ardua tarea de
detener a un estupendo delantero como Carew, Lavezzi
haba jugado sus primeros minutos ante Chile en abril y
disput un tiempo en la derrota ante los nrdicos, mientras
que Sosa finalmente qued afuera por lesin aunque ya jug
tambin ante los trasandinos.
Ese delgado cruce de frontera, de la Seleccin Juvenil a la
Mayor, algunos lo estn realizando. Sin dudas lleva tiempo
y hay que tener paciencia. No es sencillo poner un candado
y cerrar el arco de la Seleccin, como tampoco reemplazar a
un emblema como Roberto Ayala o aportar de entrada toda
la frescura que pueda necesitar el ataque. La sangre joven est,
slo hay que esperar que irrigue a la Seleccin Nacional.

Ezequiel Lavezzi ya haba tenido su debut ante Chile y fue otro de los
jvenes convocados por Basile para enfrentar a Noruega.

The case of goalkeepers is a good example of this. Carrizo,
Oscar Ustari and Sergio Romero were chosen for the
National Team. However, the former River Plate player was
out of the field for too long due to some complications in
his transference to Italys Lazio. Therefore, the goalkeepers
of the latest Youth champion team now have more chances
to be called.
Ustari has played in Youth Teams for a long time. He had a
great performance in Netherlands 2005, then jumped to the
Senior Team and was called for Germany World Cup. Later,
he got off the plane to Venezuela at the last minute due to an
injury, and he finally made his debut against Norway. Clearly,
he has great potential and undeniable skills.
Ubaldo Matildo Fillol once admitted that his experience
as National Teams third goalkeeper in 1974 World
Cup marked him throughout his career. Unlike Ustari in
Germany, he made his debut in Argentinas last game in
that World Cup. Today, Pato works as goalkeeper coach
in Basiles team. He also worked with Jos Pekerman and
he knows every positive and negative aspect of the former
Independiente player.
Romeros case is another great example. His huge hands
made him a key factor to raise the cup at the latest Canada
World Cup. Now, this boy from Racing who has emigrated to
Netherlands AZ Alkmaar has sat in the Senior Teams bench
for the first time. This experience will prepare him to become
another alternative for the present and future of the sky blue
and white goal.
These two players are certainly enjoying these new
experiences in their professional careers. And they dream
of beating or at least matching Leonardo Francos record:
of the nine Youth champion goalkeepers, he was the only
one who had the chance of defending the Argentine goal in
a World Cup (he replaced injured Roberto Abbondanzieri in
Germany 2006 quarterfinals against the local squad).
Some other Youth players are also trying to follow this road,
as Ezequiel Garay, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Jos Sosa, who
were called by Basile. These young players, of the same
generation of Ustari, Fernando Gago and Lionel Messi
(although Lavezzi played the South American tournament
but not the 2005 Championship, and Sosa was also excluded
due to an injury), will certainly want a place among more
experienced footballers.
Garay made his debut against Norway with the hard task
of stopping great forward Carew. Lavezzi made his debut
against Chile in April, and also played one half in the defeat
against the Norwegian squad. Sosa was finally left out due to
an injury, although he also played against Chile.
Certainly, some players are crossing that thin border from
Youth to Senior National Team. This requires time and
patience. It is not easy to put a padlock and close the goal of
the National Team. It is hard to replace a figure like Roberto
Ayala or to show a necessary attacking strength from the
very start. New young blood has appeared, and in the future
it may certainly feed the National Team.

objetivo para el cuerpo tcnico argentino, ms all del
resultado final. Por eso la derrota ante Noruega por 2 a 1 como
visitante no es para dramatizar, sino para sacar conclusiones
que permitan desentraar cul podra llegar a ser el equipo
que comience a disputar las Eliminatorias Sudamericanas el
prximo 13 de octubre ante Chile en el Estadio Monumental.
Despus de todo, esa es la meta ms importante: conformar el
mejor team para cuando haya que jugar por los puntos.
De todas maneras, si bien los triunfos hoy no hacen la
felicidad, ayudan. Las victorias no son imprescindibles
para este momento de la Seleccin Nacional, pero brindan
confianza. Y a la Argentina no le hubiese venido mal una
pequea alegra tras la desilusin que provoc la final ante
Brasil en la ltima Copa Amrica, certamen en el que el
conjunto de Alfio Basile haba mostrado su mejor reper-
torio desde que Coco asumi su segunda etapa al frente
de la Seleccin, hace exactamente un ao.
Una deduccin, entonces, es que cuando hay tiempo
para trabajar en conjunto, el rendimiento se potencia.
Ms si se tiene en cuenta la calidad de los futbolistas con
los que dispone Argentina. Pero como el tiempo es escaso, la

bueno y ahora se presenta otra prueba ante Australia, antes del choque frente a Chile,
como local, en el camino hacia Sudfrica 2010.

Y no siempre las pruebas dan resultados inmediatos, esos
que se ven reflejados en un marcador. Sino que podran
verse si la evaluacin se hace mirando hacia adelante.
Por eso es saludable que los jvenes vayan haciendo
sus primeras armas en el equipo mayor. Ms all de
los errores. Estos partidos pueden ayudarlos a quemar
nervios y a pulir detalles de coordinacin, fundamentales
sobre todo a la hora de defender.
Tambin puede rescatarse la bsqueda de sociedades que
puedan entenderse con slo una mirada y, ante el poco
tiempo de trabajo, valen los minutos en el campo de
juego para aceitar esos engranajes.
Los ltimos 15 minutos de la Argentina ante Noruega
demostraron que cuando los jugadores de buen pie logran

It is the time to test players and this is precisely the work done
by the Argentine technical staff, apart from the final result.
For this reason, the defeat 2-1 against Norway as visitor is
not so dramatic but it is an experience to draw conclusions
in order to see which would be the future team to play the
South American Qualifiers next 13th October against Chile at
Monumental Stadium. After all, this is the goal ahead: to make
up the best team when it comes down to play for the points.
Anyway, though the points are not significant now, they surely
help. Victories are not absolutely necessary for the National
Team at present but they generate confidence. And Argentina
would have felt better with some joy after the disappointment
of the final against Brazil during last America Cup, tournament
where the squad coached by Alfio Basile had showed their
best repertoire since Coco coached the National Team for
the second time , exactly one year ago.
Lets say then that when there is enough time to work with a
team, the performance improves. Also, if we consider the skill
of the footballers of Argentina. But since time is scarce, the
possibility is to experiment in the field during 90 minutes.
And tests not always show immediate results displayed on
a board. They could be seen if the assessment is made
watching the future. For this reason, it is healthy that youth
have a chance to play in the senior team, apart from the
mistakes. These matches may help them to improve their self-
confidence and polish some details in co-ordination which are
essential when it comes down to defend.

that when good players join, football appears by itself and
generates the attraction that the goal may be scored at any
moment. The skill and surprise of Lionel Messi was even more
outstanding when he was able to meet the same speed of
response from Javier Saviola. The fast construction of walls
within small spaces gave the Argentine squad a chance to
draw, something that finally did not happen.
However, that quarter of an hour did not enhance the poor
performance of the team during most of the game, and for
this reason, there are many aspects to improve. On 11th
Setember, against Australia, Argentina will have another occa-
sion to continue making experience and polishing the details
in view of the Qualifiers. If they improve their performance, the
victory will come as a consequence. It is not essential today
but it will help to contribute to self-confidence.

En julio de 1974, Argentina se despeda del Mundial en la
ms profunda de las frustraciones. Eran tiempos de marcado
retroceso y fallas organizativas que ameritaban un cambio
estructural para relanzar el ftbol argentino hacia la elite.
Para ese proceso, fue elegido Menotti. El popular Flaco,
DT campen con Huracn en 1973, era sindicado como
defensor de un juego tan bonito como efectivo.
Un empate 1-1 ante Espaa el 12 de octubre de 1974 fue
el puntapi inicial de su gestin en la que incluy a medio
equipo de Huracn buscando darle continuidad a su trabajo
anterior. En su primer ao, Argentina jug 12 partidos con
7 triunfos, 3 empates y 2 derrotas. Menotti hizo debutar a
43 jugadores en ese lapso y disput la Copa Amrica 1975
como el mximo desafo. Brasil fue un intrngulis a lo largo
de su ciclo. El Flaco nunca le pudo ganar.
Form una Seleccin integrada por jugadores exclusiva-
mente del interior del pas, que debut en un amistoso
en Cochabamba. Esa base luego jug la Copa Amrica.
Lentamente, el recambio comenzaba a producirse y futuras
figuras emblemticas como Ardiles y Kempes empezaron a
ocupar un lugar de privilegio en sus filas.

La gestin de Alfio Basile al frente de la
Seleccin Nacional ha cumplido 12 meses,
buena ocasin para trazar un paralelo con
procesos anteriores. As fueron los primeros
pasos de los entrenadores de la Seleccin
Argentina en los ltimos 33 aos.
Csar Luis Menotti provoc un cambio histrico en el trabajo de la
Seleccin Nacional y su ciclo tuvo como punto ms alto la obtencin
de la primera Copa del Mundo. / Csar Luis Menotti made a historic
change with the National Team and his era has a peak with the victory
at the first World Cup.
CESAR LUIS MENOTTI
Argentina said goodbye to the World Championship deep in
sorrow on July 1974. At that time the organisation was failing
and there was a need to make some changes in order to
enhance Argentine football. Menotti was appointed for this
new process. The popular Flaco (thin) coach had been
champion with Huracn in 1974 and seemed to be the right
person to develop an effective football.
The 1-1 draw against Spain on 12th October 1974 was the
kick off of his debut which included half the team of Huracn
intending a continuity to his work. During the first year, Argentina
played 12 games with 7 victories, 3 draws and 2 defeats.
Menotti encouraged the debut of 43 players during that time
and played America Cup in 1975 like the top challenge.
Brazil was a tough team all along his era; he was unable to
defeat it.
He made up a National Team with players coming from
the provinces who made their debut in a friendly match in
Cochabamba. They then played America Cup. The change
started gradually and top figures like Kempes and Ardiles
were placed among the key players.

MONTHS AND IT IS AN OCCASION TO DRAW A PARALLEL WITH THE
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCES. THE STEPS GIVEN BY THE COACHES WITH
THE NATIONAL TEAM IN THE LAST 33 YEARS HAVE BEEN AS FOLLOWS.

Carlos Salvador Bilardo
Tras la floja actuacin argentina en Espaa 1982 hubo una pausa
de ms de 10 meses sin partidos internacionales. En ese contexto,
Bilardo asumi como DT con el respaldo de su reciente consagracin
con Estudiantes de La Plata en el Metropolitano 1982 y pretendi
diferenciarse de su antecesor en lo tctico, en la polifuncionalidad de
los jugadores y en el cambio de sistemas de acuerdo al rival.
En el primer ao debutaron 23 jugadores. La relacin con
ese grupo fue tan estrecha que 8 de sus integrantes estuvieron
presentes en la consagratoria final de Mxico 1986.
El estadio Nacional de Santiago fue escenario del estreno ante
Chile, en un intenso 2-2. El Pato Fillol y el Beto Alonso eran los
nicos sobrevivientes del ciclo anterior. Los resultados iniciales
no fueron alentadores (incluyendo una eliminacin en primera
ronda de la Copa Amrica 1983). Incluso en la Copa Calcuta
(India) no se pudo llegar a la final pese a enfrentar a rivales de
inferior calidad. En esa etapa, Argentina jug 13 partidos con
5 xitos, 6 empates y 2 reveses. El mayor mrito de ese primer
tramo fue el inolvidable triunfo por 1-0 ante Brasil que cort una
racha de 13 partidos y de 13 aos sin triunfos ante el Scratch.

Alfio Basile (1 Etapa)
A pesar del consenso para la continuidad de Bilardo tras el segundo
puesto en Italia 1990, el Doctor decidi dar un paso al costado. Coco
Basile fue elegido entrenador catapultado, como sus antecesores, por sus
recientes conquistas a nivel clubes (en su caso, con Racing). Basile apost
a una camada nueva con 2 excepciones: Goycochea y Ruggeri.
Los resultados lo acompaaron. Durante 1991, el equipo jug 14
veces con 8 triunfos y 6 empates desde el 2-0 ante Hungra en
Rosario. Ese debut form parte del recordado ciclo invicto de 31
partidos (32 si se le agrega el juego ante la Seleccin de la Conmebol).
As, Basile tuvo el mejor de todos los arranques y lo ms destacado
fue la obtencin de la Copa Amrica en Chile en forma indiscutida.
En ese inicio, debutaron 24 jugadores y, curiosamente, slo 4 de
ellos llegaron a Estados Unidos 1994: Sergio Vzquez, Leonardo
Rodrguez, Ramn Medina Bello y Gabriel Batistuta.
CARLOS SALVADOR BILARDO
After the poor performance of Argentina in Spain in 1982, there
was a pause of over 10 months where international games were
not played. Within that context, Bilardo was appointed the new
TD supported by his success with Estudiantes of La Plata at the
Metropolitano 1982 and intended to implement different tactics
from his predecessor, mainly working on the versatile features of the
players to change the system according to the rival.

the National Team, however, he also won a world title at

En su primer ao en la Seleccin Nacional, Alfio Basile llev a la
Argentina a la conquista de la Copa Amrica. Alfio Basile during his
first year coaching the National Team helped Argentina to conquer
America Cup.
ALFIO BASILE (1ST. STAGE)
Although there was great enthusiasm to support Bilardo after the second
place achieved in Italy 1990, the Doctor gave a step aside. Coco Basile
was appointed coach and he arrived with his recent success in a club
Racing, this time - just like it had happened with his predecessors.
Basile bet on new players with 2 exceptions: Goycochea and Ruggeri.
He achieved good results. During 1991 the team played 14 times with 8
victories and 6 draws from the 2-0 against Hungary in Rosario.
This debut, very much remembered was within the unbeaten period of
31 matches (32 if it is included the game against the National Team of
the Conmebol). In this way, Basile started with great success and best
of all, the remarkable victory of America Cup in Chile. During this initial
time, 24 players made their debut and only 4 of them went to the USA in

Bielsa arrib a la Seleccin de la mano de Jos Pekerman.
Sus pergaminos hablaban de 2 ttulos nacionales, el ltimo
con Vlez en 1998. Su conducta fue distinta a la del resto.
No conform un plantel extremadamente nuevo sino que
combin experiencia y juventud. Apenas 11 jugadores
debutaron en su primer ao y sus equipos no se diferen-
ciaron de procesos anteriores. Vale remarcar que slo 3
de los primeros convocados llegaron al Mundial 2002
(Pochettino, Aimar y Samuel).
Arranc con un 2 a 0 ante Venezuela y 1999 lo vio ganador
en 7 de los 14 juegos, con 3 empates y 4 derrotas dolorosas,
sobre todo, la cada ante Colombia (la de los tres penales
errados por Palermo) y la eliminacin ante Brasil en la Copa
Amrica. Ese ao no fue el mejor de su ciclo, pero afirm la
base para la construccin de su proceso.
DANIEL ALBERTO PASSARELLA
Daniel Passarella was appointed by the end of 1994 with the ante-
cedent of champion coach of Argentine football. He was the Kaiser
more than ever, the Great Captain was a surprise for his inflexible views
on the appearance of the players of the National Team. The controversy
for the excessive exposure to the mass media in the previous cycle
required such strict behaviour like his in order to reach a balance.
The TD made up his team with many youth and a daring proposal with
some surprising results. Some legendary figures such as Ayala and
Zanetti made their debut. However, the National Team did not achieve
titles on top events such as King Fahad Cup and America Cup 1995.
During this first year, of 19 games, the National Team won 11, 4 draws
and 4 defeats but with a good reputation in view of the future since
Passarella was very receptive and called out 29 new players, 8 of
them were in Marseilles when the tears of the defeat mixed with the
celebration of Bergkamp.
MARCELO ALBERTO BIELSA
Bielsa reached the National Team hand in hand with Jos
Pekerman. His background indicated 2 national titles, the
last one with Vlez in 1998. His behaviour was different
from the others. He did not make up a squad exceedingly
new but combined experience and youth. Hardly 11 players
made their debut during the first year and his teams were
not different from the previous. Lets mention that only 3 of
the players reached the World Championship 2002
(Pochettino, Aimar and Samuel).
The team started with a 2-0 against Venezuela and
in 1999 won 7 of the 14 matches with 3 draws and 4
painful defeats, mainly the match against Colombia (the
three penalties missed by Palermo) and the elimination
against Brazil on America Cup. That was a poor year in
his career but it was the foundation for the construction
of its process.
Daniel Alberto Passarella
Con el antecedente de ser el entrenador campen del
ftbol argentino, Daniel Passarella asumi a fines de 1994.
Ms Kaiser que nunca, el Gran Capitn sorprendi con
una rigidez nunca vista en la esttica de los jugadores de la
Seleccin. La polmica por la excesiva exposicin meditica
en el ciclo anterior presupona la necesidad de una figura
como la suya para encauzar la situacin.
El DT construy su propio equipo con muchos jvenes y
una propuesta audaz, con algunos resultados sorprendentes.
Figuras luego legendarias, como Ayala y Zanetti, tuvieron su
debut con l. Sin embargo, la Seleccin no consigui ttulos
en los eventos ms importantes como fueron la Copa del
Rey Fahd y la Copa Amrica 1995.
En ese primer ao, en 19 juegos, la Seleccin logr 11 victorias,
4 empates y 4 derrotas, pero un alto crdito de cara al futuro, ya
que Passarella fue muy receptivo y convoc a 29 nuevos juga-
dores. De ellos, 8 estuvieron en Marsella cuando las lgrimas de
la derrota se mezclaban con el festejo de Bergkamp.

Daniel Passarella gener un recambio muy grande y cit a casi 30
jugadores nuevos en su primer ao en la Seleccin.

La sorpresiva renuncia de Bielsa, Campen Olmpico, le abri una
nueva posibilidad a Pekerman. Esta vez, el DT tricampen mundial
juvenil dio el s, y se hizo cargo del timn a mitad del camino a
Alemania 2006. Pekerman arranc aplausos en su debut con una
goleada ante Uruguay por 4-2 y mantuvo la base de su antecesor.
En su primer ao convoc a 15 jugadores nuevos y slo 2 de
ellos llegaron a Alemania (Rodrigo Palacio y Lionel Messi).
Se apoy permanentemente en jugadores que conoca de su
etapa en Selecciones Juveniles. Su arranque fue alentador:
9 triunfos en 18 partidos con 5 empates y 4 derrotas. Pero
fueron preocupantes las cadas como visitante ante Ecuador,
Paraguay y Uruguay, y la goleada sufrida ante Brasil en la Final
de la Copa de las Confederaciones. Esa imagen contrastaba
con los partidos jugados en el Monumental, donde el equipo
siempre ganaba y promediaba 3 goles por juego.
JOS NSTOR PEKERMAN
The surprising resign of Bielsa, Olympic Champion, opened
a new possibility to Pekerman. This time, the TD three times
champion of youth world championships accepted and started
his work half way on the way to Germany 2006. Pekerman was
applauded in his debut with a field day against Uruguay 4-2
and kept the players appointed by his predecessor.
During his first year, he appointed 15 new players and only 2 of
them reached Germany (Rodrigo Palacio and Lionel Messi).
He constantly supported players who he knew during his time with
the Youth National Teams. He started with 9 victories in 18 games,
5 draws and 4 defeats. But there was concern for the defeats as
visitor against Ecuador, Paraguay and Uruguay and above all
against Brazil at the Final of the Confederations Cup. That image
was a contrast with the matches played at Monumental where the
team always won with an average of 3 goals in every game.

A dos meses de la eliminacin de la Copa del Mundo, nueva-
mente Basile accedi al lugar de privilegio con el bagaje de los
campeonatos y copas logrados con Boca Juniors. Pero, en esta
ocasin, no tuvo tiempo de trabajo y su arranque se produjo
en una serie de partidos ante Brasil y otras potencias europeas,
siempre en el Viejo Continente.
Tuvo la feliz idea de armar una Seleccin local, pero pocos de
esos jugadores disputaron la Copa Amrica. Esta nueva etapa
incluye 13 juegos con 7 triunfos, 2 empates y 4 derrotas (2 ante
Brasil). Noruega y Espaa tambin vencieron a la Seleccin,
que tuvo su pico de desempeo en Venezuela en los juegos
previos a la final con Brasil.
Basile dio lugar a 13 nuevos jugadores, pero 8 de ellos apare-
cieron en el partido contra Chile en Mendoza. Jugadores como
Agero y Gago, de enorme futuro, fueron los debuts ms espe-
rados en esta etapa.

After two months of the elimination of the World Cup, Basile
accepted again the place of privilege coming with the experience
of championships and cups won with Boca Juniors. But, on this
occasion, there was no time left and he started with a series of
games against Brazil and some other big European teams always in
Europe. He was clever to make up a local National Team but only a
few of these players played America Cup. This new stage
included 13 games with 7 victories, 2 draws and 4 defeats
(2 against Brazil). Norway and Spain also defeated the
National Team which was most successful in Venezuela
in the games previous to the final against Brazil. Basile appointed
13 new players but only 8 of them played against Chile in Mendoza.
Players such as Aguero and Gago with a great future made their
debut so much expected on this stage.
Los mtodos y las caractersticas de cada proceso presentaron
sensibles diferencias segn quin fuera el conductor. Las exigen-
cias y las expectativas de los hinchas argentinos no cambiaron
jams: se les pidi, se les pide y se les pedir que conduzcan a la
Seleccin a lo ms alto del podio mundial. Una tarea ciclpea
pero que estn dispuestos a llevar a cabo.

Interview with Ever Banega
SOMETIMES I CANT BELIEVE IT, IM NOT CONSCIOUS
THE TALENTED MIDFIELDER YOUTH OF BOCA JUNIORS
MADE HIS DEBUT IN THE FIRST DIVISION EARLY THE
CURRENT YEAR AND WAS CHAMPION OF AMERICA WITH HIS
CLUB AND OF THE WORLD WITH THE U-20 NATIONAL TEAM.
HIS LIFE CHANGED SUDDENLY THOUGH HE IS AS HUMBLE
AND STRAIGHTFORWARD AS USUAL.
The stands of the training field of the Yellow House are
packed. Most of them are students of a school who have
attended to watch the practice of the team of the First
Division of Boca Juniors with the illusion to see their idols very
closely. The stars who every Sunday do their most to give joy
to their supporters and who have conquered for the sixth
time Toyota Libertadores Cup two months ago. The small
spectators went with their elders who were also enthusiastic
to be near the footballers and all of them stretched to touch
the cracks and get an autograph or a photo.
The regular players have already defeated the substitutes
during the training session and they are leaving the dressing-
room. When Banega appears, the shout of Ever, Ever
sounds loudly from the stands and the youth only 19 years
old stops, takes the pens given to him and with a smile signs
shirts, balls or papers because supporters choose different
trophies to take home.
This was not possible half a year ago. The youth born in
Rosario on 29th June 1988 was unknown. But early this
year his life started to change. His performance in the U-20
South American with the Youth National Team made him
popular and very soon Miguel Angel Russo helped him to
make his debut at the Premier Division of Boca. From there
on, he made a great progress. He was the owner of the
midfield xeneixe with his talent and became the figure
of the champion team of Libertadores and of the National
Team which won the World Youth Championship in Canada.
Two achievements that every footballer dreams to win in his
lifetime and that he made true in scarcely a month.
How did you live such success in so short time?
Ive never thought that it would be so fast but I intend to take
it easy. I cant stop I have to continue working and growing.
Ive never thought to play the South American with the U-20
National Team and then when I came back I made my debut
in the Premier, something unexpected. Luckily, Russo gave
me the opportunity and I took advantage of it.
Any special message of the coach at that time?
To play quietly and he let me know that he believed in my
skill. He supported me all the time.
You had to replace Fernando Gago with the board of
successor in the midfield. Was it an extra pressure?
No, I knew that to be in the first team had a reason and it
was not necessary to think who had played in it before. I had
confidence to do my best for Boca.
The jump to the First Division was at the beginning of the last
Closing Tournament on 10th February 2007 and four days
later, Banega was wearing the blue and gold shirt during
the first commitment of Libertadores Cup, tournament where
he played all the games (the other privileged player was
Claudio Morel Rodrguez) and finally remained on the glass
cabinet of the club of the Ribera.

a tribuna del predio de entrenamiento de Casa Amarilla
est llena de gente. La mayora son alumnos de una
escuela que asistieron a la prctica del equipo de Primera
Divisin de Boca Juniors, con la ilusin de ver de cerca a
sus dolos. Esos que domingo a domingo intentan regalarle
alegras a los hinchas y que dos meses atrs conquistaron por
sexta vez la Copa Toyota Libertadores. Entonces los pequeos
espectadores, acompaados por algunos mayores a quienes
tambin se les nota el entusiasmo de estar a escasos metros de
los futbolistas, se estiran para tocar a los cracks y conseguir un
autgrafo o una foto que inmortalice ese momento.
Los titulares ya golearon a los suplentes en la prctica de
ftbol y de a poco van saliendo del vestuario abandonando
el predio. Cuando Banega asoma su cuerpo, el grito de
Ever, Ever resuena con fuerza desde las gradas y el pibe
de tan slo 19 aos frena, toma cada uno de los marcadores
que le alcanzan y, con una sonrisa, estampa su rbrica en
camisetas, pelotas o papeles, cualquier elemento le sirve a los
hinchas para llevarse el trofeo ms buscado.
Nada de eso ocurra poco ms de medio ao atrs. Es que el
muchacho nacido en Rosario el 29 de junio de 1988 pasaba
desapercibido. Pero desde comienzos de ao la vida empez
a cambiarle. Su actuacin en el Sudamericano Sub-20
con la Seleccin Juvenil le permiti mostrarse y enseguida
Miguel ngel Russo lo hizo debutar en la Primera de Boca.
Y a partir de all creci y creci. Se hizo dueo del medio-
campo xeneize con todo su talento y se convirti en
baluarte del equipo campen de la Libertadores y del
Seleccionado que triunf en el Mundial Juvenil de Canad.
Dos logros que cualquier jugador puede soar a lo largo de
toda su carrera y que l los hizo realidad en apenas un mes.
Cmo viviste semejantes triunfos en tan poco tiempo?
Nunca pens que me iba a pasar todo tan rpido, pero trato de
tomarlo con tranquilidad. No puedo quedarme slo en eso, tengo
que seguir trabajando y creciendo. Nunca pens ni siquiera en
jugar el Sudamericano con la Seleccin Sub-20 y encima a la
vuelta de ese torneo debut en Primera, algo soado. Por suerte
Russo me dio la oportunidad y la aprovech.

Hubo algn mensaje en especial del tcnico en ese
momento?
Que jugara tranquilo, y que supiera que l me pona porque
vea en m condiciones. Y me asegur todo su respaldo.
Y debas reemplazar nada menos que a Fernando Gago,
con el cartel de sucesor en la mitad de la cancha.
Signific alguna presin aparte?
No, yo saba que si me tocaba entrar en el
primer equipo por algo era y no tena que
pensar en quienes haban jugado en esa posicin.
Deba confiar en que poda darle lo mejor
a Boca.
El salto a Primera Divisin se dio en el
inicio del ltimo Torneo Clausura, el 10
de febrero de 2007, y cuatro das despus
Banega tambin se calzaba la camiseta azul
y oro en el primer compromiso de la Copa
Libertadores, certamen en el que jug todos
los partidos (el otro jugador que tuvo ese privilegio fue
Claudio Morel Rodrguez) y que finalmente qued en las
vitrinas del club de la Ribera.
Alguno de los dos debut te puso nervioso? Qu signi-
ficaba jugar a cancha llena y un torneo internacional
tan especial?
No, era ms que nada ansiedad. No suelo ponerme nervioso por eso.
Siempre estuve muy tranquilo a la hora de los partidos.
Cul es tu relacin con tus compaeros ms grandes?
Trato de escucharlos porque tienen mucha experiencia y saben
muy bien lo que es Boca. Entonces te ayudan a no relajarte en
las cosas que ya conseguimos.
Precisamente eso es algo que les puede suceder en este
momento?
Los ms grandes tratan de aconsejarnos a los
ms chicos, para que no nos quedemos y no le
aflojemos a los entrenamientos, porque est en
juego el prestigio del equipo y el de cada uno.
Los futbolistas que han tenido la posibi-
lidad de vestir la camiseta nacional, en
cualquiera de sus categoras, y entrenar coti-
dianamente en el Complejo Habitacional
Deportivo de Ezeiza siempre remarcan que
esa experiencia los marc a fuego tanto
en la vida como en la carrera profesional.
Y Banega no es la excepcin.
La verdad que cuando me dijeron que tena que ir a entrenar
a Ezeiza fue un sueo cumplido y una alegra muy grande, no
slo para m sino para toda mi familia.
Te acords cmo fue esa primera convocatoria?
Estaba ac en Casa Amarilla, despus de un partido de Reserva
contra Vlez. As que me puse muy contento y el martes me
present y empec a entrenar.

Cmo se lo dijiste a la familia?
Recuerdo que estaban muy felices. Fue muy lindo. Era lo que
siempre haba esperado. Primero llegar a un club y despus a la
Seleccin. Pero todo de a poco. Por suerte se me cumpli todo y
pude aprovecharlo.
Y cmo fue cuando supiste que integrabas el plantel
para el Mundial?
Estaba tranquilo, porque primero tena que rendir en las
finales de la Libertadores con Boca. Entonces s, despus lleg
la hora de pensar en la Seleccin, que era otra cosa impor-
tante. Por suerte se me dio, pude estar, jugar y salir campen.
Fue algo muy hermoso.
Te das cuenta de lo que lograron con la Seleccin o
lleva tiempo?
Lleva tiempo caer, pero lo que logramos fue muy importante. Se
form un grupo muy unido, donde se dej todo y conseguimos el
objetivo que fuimos a buscar.
Qu significa el aporte de la Seleccin Nacional a tu
carrera y particularmente de la gente que trabaja con las
Selecciones Juveniles, encabezadas por Hugo Tocalli?
Tocalli fue uno de los que me dio la oportunidad de mostrarme
en el Sudamericano y creo que eso tuvo que ver para que, al
regresar, Russo se fijara en m para ponerme en la Primera de
Boca. Fue algo clave.
Cul fue el secreto de esa Seleccin Juvenil? Porque no
trabajaron mucho tiempo juntos...
Trabajamos una semana todos juntos y viajamos para Canad.
Lo mejor del equipo fue el grupo, que se fue formando de a
poco, y con el correr de los partidos fuimos mejorando, ya que
no habamos empezado muy bien.
Y no siempre se logra armar buenos grupos cuando hay
tantas figuras como haba en ese plantel...
Puede ser. Es verdad que la mayora ya estaba en Primera,
pero nosotros lo tomamos de una manera normal y tenamos
que aprovecharlo. Haba experiencia para la edad y mucha
calidad, y creo que aprovechamos esas virtudes.
Has any debut make you nervous? What did it mean
to play before a packed stadium and such special
tournament?
No, it was just anxiety. I m not usually nervous. Ive always
been calm when it comes down to play a game.
How do you get along with your elder companions?
I listen to them because they have experience and know Boca
very well. They help me never to stop and continue working.
Is it precisely something that may happen to you at this
moment?
Senior players intend to give advice to the juniors to help us
continue the practice and never give in because the prestige
of the team and of every player is at stake.
Footballers who have had the chance to wear the Argentine
shirt in any category and train at Ezeizas Sporting Complex
always emphasise that this experience has marked them both
personally and professionally. Banega is not an exception.
In truth, when I was told to train in Ezeiza, it was like a dream
coming true and a great joy not only for me but also for my family.
Do you remember when you were first appointed?
I was in the Yellow House, after a game of the Reserve against
Vlez. I was happy and on Tuesday I started to train.
How did you tell your family?
I remember that they were very happy. It was very nice. It was
my long-awaited dream. Firstly, to be in a club and then in
the National Team. But it all happened gradually. Luckily, the
dream came true and I was able to take advantage of it.
What was it like when you knew that you were in the
squad for the World Championship?
I was calm because I had to do my best at the finals of
the Libertadores with Boca first. Then, it was the time for
the National Team which was something equally important.
Luckily, I was successful and I played and was a champion.
It was really wonderful.
Are you conscious of the success with the National Team
or not yet?
It takes time to be aware but it was a remarkable victory. We
made up a very close group, did our best and fulfilled our
objective.
What is the contribution of the National Team to your
career and mainly the people who work with the Youth
National Teams led by Hugo Tocalli?
Tocalli gave me a chance to take part in the South American
and it was important because then on my return, Russo
called me for Boca. It was a key moment.
What was the secret of the Youth National Team? Because
you did not spend much time together...
We worked together for a week and flew to Canada.
Teamwork was the best since it was made up gradually and
it improved all along the games because we had not had a
good start.
And it is not easy to make up good teams when there are
so many figures like those of the squad...
It maybe. It is true that most of them were in the First but it
was a normal experience for us and had to take advantage
of it. We had experience and skill and we used them.
Cmo viviste la trascendencia que tuvo tu desempeo
en los medios de todo el mundo?
Cada cosa la aprovech para rendir cada da mejor y poder
conseguir lo que fuimos a buscar. No me fijaba tanto en la
mirada de los rivales o en los medios extranjeros, estaba muy
tranquilo, quera jugar en la Seleccin y si tenan que verme de
algn lado, bienvenido. Pero slo pensaba en la Seleccin.
El hecho de compartir un torneo con chicos de otros
pases, con culturas diferentes, tambin debe haber sido
una experiencia enriquecedora...
Creo que estn pasando cosas muy importantes
en mi vida, en mi carrera, porque vivir lo que
viv en medio ao no a todos les pasa. A veces
no lo puedo creer, no caigo.
Sos con la Seleccin Mayor o es muy pronto?
Creo que es muy pronto, soy muy chico y tengo
que seguir sumando experiencia.
Hasta hace menos de un mes, Banega se
tomaba el subte y un colectivo para viajar
desde su casa al entrenamiento. Pero el creci-
miento deportivo tambin trajo aparejado el continuo reco-
nocimiento de la gente, ya no pasa inadvertido y entonces
cambi su manera de trasladarse: se compr un auto para
llegar ms tranquilo a las prcticas.
Cmo vivs estos cambios en cuanto a tu popularidad?
A medida que va pasando el tiempo la gente te va reconociendo
en la calle y eso te pone contento. A veces puede parecer molesto,
pero uno sabe que hay gente que se emociona mucho al ver a un
jugador. Alguna vez yo estuve de ese lado.
A quin parabas desesperadamente para que te diera un
autgrafo o una foto?
No era de pedir mucho, pero cuando estaba en inferiores y vena
a la prctica me volva loco.

POR SEBASTIN BATTAGLIA
Ever es un jugador con mucha tcnica, que maneja muy bien la
pelota y es muy inteligente a pesar de la corta edad y trayectoria que
tiene. Es sorprendente que con los aos que tiene haya empezado
a jugar en la primera de Boca y no haya sentido jams la presin.
Se acomod muy bien y en la Seleccin tambin ha demostrado
todo lo que es. Sin dudas, si logra afianzarse ms todava en Boca,
habr una lista larga de equipos que querrn contratarlo.
Adems tiene todo para ser dolo de Boca, algo que es muy difcil,
y que depende de cada uno. Si tuviera que corregir algo? Creo que
todos tenemos para mejorar da a da y esperemos que l pueda ver
las cosas a pulir para seguir creciendo. Tiene toda la carrera por
delante y ya dio pasos muy importantes.

How did you handle your popularity in all the mass media
worldwide?
I wished to be better every day and worked to fulfil our objective.
My attention was not on my rivals or the press from abroad. I
was calm ready to play in the National Team and welcomed
every recognition but I concentrated in the National Team.
The chance to share a tournament with youth from some
other countries with different cultures has been an
enriching experience...
I think that my life is giving a great jump, in my career
because I have lived it in half a year and it doesnt happen so
often. Sometimes I cant believe it, I m not conscious.
Do you dream with the Senior National Team
or is it too soon?
I think that it is too soon; Im young and Ive to
get more experience.
A month ago, Banega took the subway and
a bus to go from home to the practice. But
his football success came hand in hand with
the recognition of the people because he is
popular and then, he changed his means of
transport: he bought a car to arrive calmly at
the practice.
How do you feel now that you are popular?
As time goes by, people stop me in the street
and it makes me happy. Sometimes, it may seem
annoying but we know that some people feel touched to meet
a player. I have lived that experience too.
Who did you stop to get an autograph or a photo?
I did not do it much but when I was in the lower divisions and
watched the practice, I went mad.
Opinion - Sebastin Battaglia
Ever is a player with a great technique who handles the ball
very well and he is very intelligent in spite of his age and short
career. It is surprising to see him playing in the first of Boca
without feeling any pressure. He adapted himself very well
and also to the National Team. No doubt, if he continues his
performance in Boca, many teams will intend to hire him.
Also, he has all the qualities to become an idol in Boca,
something difficult for every player. Anything to correct? I
think that we all have to improve every day and I hope that
he himself will discover how to continue. He has all the future
ahead and has already given key steps.

El club que hizo
olvidar a las ballenas
Afianzado en el Torneo Argentino A y serio candidato a ascender a la segunda categora
de ascenso, el Club Guillermo Brown, de la provincia de Chubut, se presenta como uno de
los ms fuertes de la Patagonia. Instalado en medio de un paisaje paradisaco, donde las
ballenas ocupan el centro de la escena durante gran parte del ao, el presente del club
distrae la atencin de sus habitantes hacia el ftbol.
P
or un rato se olvidaron de las ballenas, dicen los
hinchas del club ms representativo de la ciudad de
Puerto Madryn al ver que su equipo ahora es reconocido por
la gente, turistas y simpatizantes del ftbol argentino. Y es
que el espectculo turstico que dan las ballenas, digno de
ser visto una y mil veces, desde mitad hasta fines de ao, es
el carnet de presentacin de la ciudad de Puerto Madryn.
En esa poca, la ciudad se llena de turistas que, vidos de
ver a los gigantes mamferos martimos, se instalan en sus
costas, esperando el famoso avistaje. Adems, durante las
noches, el espectculo merece ser odo, ya que las ballenas
realizan sus tpicos sonidos.
Claro que la ciudad no slo tiene ese show natural.
La historia cuenta que fue fundada a mediados del 1800 con
la llegada de inmigrantes galeses, quienes dieron comienzo
al desarrollo pesquero, ferroviario y turstico.
Durante dcadas, la ciudad demostr un gran crecimiento,
siempre apoyado en el aspecto turstico, aunque fue en
los aos 70 cuando se produjo el desarrollo explosivo de
Puerto Madryn. Tras ese momento se duplic la poblacin,
se multiplicaron las radicaciones industriales, se extendi la
ciudad para albergar a familias de las ms diversas proce-
dencias, incluso extranjeros, y se ha vuelto a adquirir un
marcado carcter turstico.
El ltimo equipo campen de Brown, que se qued con el Torneo Clausura del
Argentino A, cautiv a los madrynenses por su buen juego.

En ese armonioso contexto paisajstico pareciera que no hay
lugar para el ftbol. Sin embargo, el ms pasional de los
deportes no puede faltar y ocupa con creces el corazn de los
madrynenses. Ms an desde que el Club Social y Atltico
Guillermo Brown apareci en la escena nacional. Antes, el
club de la Banda ya era uno de los ms reconocidos en la
ciudad, y su participacin en la Liga del Valle del Chubut
era siempre prominente. As lo sealan los ocho ttulos
obtenidos a nivel local y sus ms de cincuenta aos de parti-
cipacin en la entidad regional.
Pero fueron otros los hechos que posicionaron al club en el
primer lugar del inters local dejando de lado inclusive a
las ballenas, estrellas absolutas del paisaje de la ciudad.
El principal fue la obtencin de la plaza para jugar el Torneo
Argentino B, que se registr en noviembre de 2000. A partir
de ese momento, la performance del club en el certamen
federal fue en alza, determinando que en la temporada 2003
se consagrara campen de ese torneo y obtuviera el ascenso al
Argentino A. All, a poco de jugarlo ya volva a dar que hablar,

ARE THE MAIN ATTRACTION ALL ALONG THE YEAR BUT THE
CLUB IS NOW CALLING THE ATTENTION OF THE INHABITANTS
TOWARDS FOOTBALL.
For a while, they forgot the whales, say the supporters of
the most representative club of Puerto Madryn city when they
see that people, tourists and football fans are enthusiastic
with their team. In fact, whales are the tourist attraction from
mid-year, it is like the identity card of Puerto Madryn.
During the season, the city is packed with tourists who
remain on the coast eager to watch the gigantic water
mammals. At night it is also attractive because the whales
make their typical sounds. But the city not only offers this
natural show; history tells that the city was founded in 1800
by Welsh immigrants who started to develop activities such
as fishing, railway and tourism.
For many decades, the city grew with tourist development
but in the 70s it reached its peak because the population
grew twice its number, many industries and families from
different origin even from abroad settled down there.
Within that idyllic scenery football has its own place and
the passion of this sport is also within the heart of Puerto
Madryn inhabitants. Guillermo Brown Social and Athletic
Club is widely recognised specially for its participation in the
League of Chubut Valley. It has achieved eight titles locally
and has participated over fifty years in regional football.
In truth, some other facts made the club popular... leaving
aside the whales, absolute stars of the life in the city.
An important step was to achieve a place to play the
Argentine A Tournament on November 2000. From that
moment, the performance of the club made a progress in
the federal tournament to such an extent that in 2003 was
the champion of that tournament and was promoted to the
Argentine A. There, it soon shone and won the last Closing
Tournament losing twice the chance to be promoted to the
First B National.

Las fechas de la historia
Enumerar ms de 50 aos de vida de un club requiere un trabajo
pormenorizado, que apunta a recordar, a poner en relieve, aquellos
acontecimientos que marcaron a fuego a la entidad, y que forman
parte de la columna vertebral del club patagnico con participa-
cin en el Torneo Argentino A.
Para empezar, adems de marcar que Brown fue fundado el 14 de
enero de 1945, debe recordarse que el primer logro obtenido por el
club no tuvo nada que ver con la faz deportiva. En efecto, el ltimo 5
de mayo se cumplieron cuarenta aos de la inauguracin del Estadio
Ral Conti. Nacido tras un ambicioso proyecto que comenz a
hacerse realidad a fines del ao 1963, con la adquisicin del terreno
cedido a ttulo precario por la Secretara de Marina de la Nacin.
Con aquella obtencin, que representaba un verdadero hito en el
crecimiento del club, otra fecha clave que colabor a engrandecer
a la entidad madrynense fue el 12 de febrero de 1999, cuando
comenzaron los trabajos destinados a contar con la primera cancha
de csped en la ciudad. Tampoco se podr obviar el 3 de agosto de
ese ao, con la llegada de los primeros tablones premoldeados de
cemento, que forman parte de sus tribunas; y menos an la del mes
de octubre, cuando se inaugur la cancha principal del estadio,
llamada Humberto Veiguela.
Deportivamente hablando, y teniendo en cuenta que aquellos
logros institucionales han sido primordiales para que el buen
ftbol fluya con normalidad, el 6 de noviembre de 2000 proba-
blemente haya sido el da ms glorioso del deporte de la ciudad,
debido al debut de Guillermo Brown de Puerto Madryn en el
Torneo Argentino B.
Casi tres aos despus, la tarde del 23 de agosto de 2003, la
historia volva a enlazar otro eslabn en el presente de la Banda.
Aquel da, en el estadio bahiense El Fortn, del Club Villa Mitre,
se produca el debut en el Torneo Argentino A.
Los aos entregaran otro momento culmine para justificar la
grandeza del club, cuando el 3 de junio de 2007 se consigui el
Torneo Clausura. Luego llegaran los partidos ante Independiente
Rivadavia de Mendoza y la oportunidad perdida ante Ben Hur de
Rafaela por la Promocin.
habida cuenta que obtuvo el ltimo Torneo Clausura,
perdiendo en dos oportunidades la chance de ascender a la
Primera B Nacional.
Pese a los avatares futbolsticos, nadie en la ciudad olvidar
el desempeo del club en el plano federal. Igualmente todos
recordarn a los visitantes que, adems del espectculo de las
ballenas y la flora de la ciudad, un club local es digno de ser

En 2003, en pleno momento de esplendor futbolstico e institucional,
el equipo obtuvo el ascenso al Torneo Argentino A.
In 2003 during a key institutional and football moment, the team won
the promotion to the Argentine A Tournament.
Santamarina de Tandil fue uno de los rivales ms duros en el Torneo
Argentino A y animar junto a Guillermo Brown la nueva temporada.
Santamarina from Tandil was one of the toughest rivals in the
Argentine A Tournament and will share with Brown the new season
In spite of their football drawbacks, no one will forget in the
city the performance of the club in the federal tournaments.
Also, they all remind visitors that not only whales and the
flora of the city are attractive but that there is also a local club
equally worthy of admiration.
The Dates of History*
To be able to make a list of over 50 years of life of the club
requires a detailed work to stand out the significant events
that have marked the institution and which are the backbone
of the Patagonian club in its participation in the Argentine
A Tournament.
Lets begin by saying that Brown was founded on 14th
January 1945 and that the first achievement of the club
has no specific relation with football. In fact, last 5th May
Ral Conti Stadium celebrated its forty years. It was
born from an ambitious project which started by the end
of 1963 when the Secretary of the Navy transferred the
lands to the club something that was a real milestone in
the development of the institution. Another key date was
on 12th February 1999 when the first field of turf was
prepared in the city. Also, 3rd August the same year when
the first cement seats were made for the stands, and
above all, October when the main field of the stadium was
inaugurated named Humberto Veiguela.
All the above institutional achievements have helped to
develop football but 6th November 2000 has probably been
the most historic day for football in the city due to the debut
of Guillermo Brown of Puerto Madryn in the Argentine B
Tournament.
Almost three years later, the afternoon on 23rd August
2003, history made another link in the chain of La Banda
because on that day the team made their debut in the
Argentine A Tournament at El Fortn stadium in Villa Mitre
Club of Bahia Blanca.
Some years later, another top occasion on 3rd June 2007
when the team won the Closing Tournament. Then, the
games against Independiente Rivadavia of Mendoza and the
chance lost against Ben Hur of Rafaela for the Promotion.

or qu decidiste dejar la Seleccin?
Principalmente porque estoy cansado de entrenar. Antes
de viajar a Brasil habl con el tcnico (Fernando Larraaga) y le
comuniqu que estaba un poco saturado de los entrenamientos y
no me senta cmodo en esa situacin. Adems, s que para jugar
en la Seleccin hay que estar 10 puntos. La motivacin es funda-
mental para estar bien en todos los aspectos, y momentneamente
perd esa motivacin. De todas maneras, Larraaga me comu-
nic que tengo las puertas siempre abiertas, y veremos el prximo
ao, con el Mundial cerca, si tengo ganas y si l me necesita.
Sin embargo vas a seguir jugando en Boca Juniors, por qu?
Tengo otras motivaciones y le debo mucho al club. Los ritmos
de entrenamiento son ms cmodos para mis horarios y me
acostumbr a ese mtodo. Con la Seleccin tena que sumarle
varias horas semanales a mi prctica con Boca. Por otro lado

Un corto paso al costado?
Despus de una dcada defendiendo el arco de la Seleccin Argentina de futsal, Jos
Mandayo decidi dar un paso al costado y dedicarse de lleno a su club, Boca Juniors.
Mientras analiza cmo seguir en lo inmediato, el arquero comenta su experiencia en el
equipo nacional, el futuro de la disciplina y la posibilidad de rever su decisin, de la cual
anticipa que quizs haya sido apresurada.
la Seleccin tiene que vivir un recambio generacional y, si bien
soy joven, ya hace 10 aos que juego con la camiseta argentina
y pienso que puede ser oportuno que otros arqueros, que los hay
muy buenos, cuiden el arco del Seleccionado.
Qu saldo sacas de tu paso por la Seleccin?
Sumamente positivo. Muy lindo, exigente y exitoso. En todo
momento la pas muy bien y estoy muy feliz por haber formado
parte de la Seleccin. Soy un privilegiado y le agradezco siempre a
la AFA y a Larraaga, porque l me llev a Boca y a la Seleccin,
con slo 19 aos. De todas maneras no quiero dar por termi-
nada mi etapa en el conjunto nacional. Puede ser que me haya
apresurado al hablar con Larraaga sobre el hecho de dejar el
equipo, y si bien ahora me tomar algunos meses para descansar y
reanalizar mi decisin, puede ser que de cara a las Eliminatorias
y al Mundial, me pique el bicho y quiera volver.

AFTER A DECADE DEFENDING THE GOAL AREA OF THE
NATIONAL TEAM OF FUTSAL, JOS MANDAYO DECIDED
TO GIVE A STEP ASIDE AND DEVOTE HIMSELF TO HIS
CLUB: BOCA JUNIORS. WHILE HE PLANS HIS IMMEDIATE
FUTURE, THE GOALKEEPER REVISES HIS EXPERIENCE IN THE
NATIONAL SQUAD, THE FUTURE OF THE ACTIVITY AND THE
POSSIBILITY OF GOING OVER HIS DECISION WHICH HE SAYS
IN ADVANCE THAT IT HAS BEEN TAKEN IN A HURRY.
Why did you decide to leave the National Team?
Mainly because I am tired to train. Before the flight to Brazil I
spoke to the coach (Fernando Larraaga) and I told him that
I have had enough of training and did not feel comfortable
doing it. Also, I know that we have to be very fit to play with
the National Team, and motivation is essential in order to be
fit, and I have lost that motivation now. Anyway, Larraaga
told me that the doors are always open and we can see it
again next year with the World Championship so near if I feel
like it and if he needs me.
However, you will continue playing in Boca Juniors, why?
I have some other reasons and I have to thank the club. The
schedule of training is more comfortable for me and I am
used to that method. With the National Team I had to add
many more hours a week. On the other hand, the National
Team has to go under a generation change and though I am
young, Ive been playing for 10 years and I think that it may
be interesting that some other goalkeepers who are very
good, may have the chance to play with the National Team.
What is your balance of your experience with the National
Team?
Exceedingly positive. Very nice, demanding and successful.
I had a wonderful time and I am happy of my experience
with the National Team. I am a privileged person and I thank
the AFA and Larraaga because he took me to Boca and
to the National Team when I was only 19 years. Anyway, Im
not finishing my performance in the national squad, maybe
I decided it too soon and though I will take some months to
have a rest and revise my decision, it can be that in view of
the Qualifiers and the World Championship I may feel enthu-
siastic again and ready to return.
Mandayo who knew football thanks to his father who moti-
vated him to make a test at Franja de Oro, made up the
team which represented futsal at the Pan American Sporting
Games of Rio de Janeiro and returned with the silver medal
hanging around his neck.
How do you see the performance of Brazil?
The fact that we had never participated at the Pan
American Games before and the chance to share
the Olympic Villa with so many athletes is touching
as well as to share the table with Argentine spor-
tsmen discussing their activities is very nice. We
fulfilled the objective that was to fight to win the gold
medal. Before the trip, we had made up our mind
to achieve the final against Brazil; we all wished to

Cmo analizas el desempeo del equipo en Brasil?
El hecho de que nunca hayamos participado de un Juego
Panamericano, haber convivido en la Villa Olmpica con
tantos otros atletas es emocionante, compartir la mesa con
deportistas argentinos y mimetizarte con ellos y su realidad es
muy lindo. Desde lo deportivo creo que cumplimos con uno de
los objetivos, que era el de pelear por la medalla de oro. Antes
de viajar tenamos en mente que lo mnimo a lo que debamos
aspirar era la final, seguramente ante Brasil. Partiendo de esa
base hay que asumir que cumplimos, aunque el da de la final
todos queramos ganarla y te miento si te digo que quedamos
conformes. Adems jugamos un partido muy extrao, ya que
en la mayora de los encuentros ante Brasil a ellos les costaba
mucho convertirnos el primer gol, y casi siempre termin-
bamos con un marcador muy ajustado. Ese da, en cambio,
nos marcaron en la primera jugada y eso modific el partido.
Despus, cuando terminaba el primer tiempo nos convirtieron
el segundo, y eso transform el planteo por nuestra parte.
Atajando para la Seleccin Argentina antes de la final frente a
Brasil por los Juegos Panamericanos. Ese fue, hasta el momento,
el ltimo partido de Mandayo en el equipo nacional de futsal.

Las prcticas con el equipo nacional se desarrollan siempre en horarios
nocturnos, y el hecho de terminar cerca de la medianoche desmotiv
a Mandayo, que pese a eso siempre se mostr responsable de cara a
los entrenamientos. / The practice with the national squad takes place at
night and the fact that they finish so late did not satisfy Mandayo who in
spite of it, has always been responsible of his training.

Cmo imagins a la Seleccin de aqu al futuro?
Hay recambio?
La verdad, es complicado pensar que para el futuro ya est
asegurado el recambio. Yo creo que la generacin de jugadores
que actuamos en los Panamericanos, y que terminamos cuartos
en el ltimo Mundial (N de la R: China Taipei 2004) puede
jugar un Mundial ms y despus quizs sea justo un recambio.
Y humildemente an no veo a los jugadores de ese momento,
hay algunos que vienen muy bien y todava son jvenes, pero
comparado con la experiencia del equipo que jug los ltimos
10 aos y que tiene casi ese mismo tiempo jugando en el futsal
europeo existe una diferencia
Adems los jugadores se estn yendo muy
jvenes a Europa...
Claro, y eso, si bien les da roce internacional, le quita tiempo
al cuerpo tcnico para interactuar con los jugadores, entrenarse
juntos y verse las caras varias veces por semana. Mi camada
pudo conocerse durante muchos aos, cuando todos jugbamos
en la Argentina, y para cuando la mayora parti a Europa
haba un conocimiento de equipo muy marcado. Eso ahora no
se va a poder dar. Espero que en poco tiempo los entrenadores
de Argentina vayan reclutando a los jugadores que aparecen
como posibles referentes, para que encabecen el recambio de
aqu a unos aos.

win and we did not feel satisfied. We played a strange game
since in most of the matches against Brazil, they had some
difficulty to score the first goal and we usually finished with
a tight score. That day, instead, they scored in the first move
and it changed the game. Then, by the end of the first half,
they scored the second and it wholly changed our strategy.
How do you imagine the National Team in the future? Is
there any change?
In truth, it is difficult to think that the change is already
made. I think that the generation of players who played the
Pan American who finished in the fourth place in the last
World Championship (China Taipei 2004) can play another
World Championship and the change may come after that.
Honestly, I dont see the future players, some are doing well
but they are still too young, and comparing with the expe-
rience of the team which has played the last 10 years and
which has almost the same time playing in European futsal,
there is a difference...
Also, players are going to Europe very young...
Sure, though it gives them international experience, it takes
the technical staff time to be with the players, practice toge-
ther and look at every one several times a week. My genera-
tion was able to share many years playing in Argentina and
when most of them went to Europe we had already knew
one another very well. This is not possible now. I hope that
in a short time, the coaches of Argentina may appoint the
players who emerge like future referents in order to make the
change in a few years more.

THREE TOP TESTS
The Argentine team of futsal won the Silver Medal in the Pan
American Games of Rio de Janeiro and it was a sample of
the level of the team in South America. Though the objective
was fully fulfilled, the goal of the technical staff and the
players is now to prepare conscientiously in view of the
World Championship 2008.
For this reason, the responsible members of the team
are happy with the activity of the senior team in October,
since they encourage the tournament and the international
experience which will be useful to polish some details.
The first two matches will be in Brazil considering that the
verdeamarelho team which is in permanent contact with
Argentine futsal, invited the national squad to play two
friendly matches on 13th and 15th October in their Capital
City. Five days later until 27th October Brazil will host the 3rd.
Grand Prix of Futsal with the participation of the local team,
Argentina, Chile, Hungary, Belgium, Holland. Slovakia, Iran,
Uzbekistn, Georgia, Libya and Egypt.
The importance of the Grand Prix, mainly because there will
be first rate teams, is considered by most of the countries
which see it like a mini Cup of the World. In this respect,
Argentina would participate with a squad made up by
players of local futsal. This team made up by players who
play either in the Senior National Team or the U-20 will have
to pass a strict test in Brazil, and they will be assessed
thoroughly, no doubt, in view of the future changes in the
senior team.
After the stay in Brazil and from there, the technical staff will
fly to Lisbon where on 30th and 31st October the team will
play two friendly matches against Portugal, appointing this
time the Argentine players who are abroad. In this case, the
players will travel less because they will go from Italy and
Spain to Portugal, and at the same time, the technical staff
will wish to see in action most of the players who played
the Pan American Games and watch them in view of the
Qualifiers to be played in Uruguay on March 2008, and the
World Championship.

a obtencin de la Medalla de Plata en los Juegos
Panamericanos de Ro de Janeiro no fue ms que una
muestra de lo mucho que puede dar el equipo argentino de
futsal en el mbito sudamericano. Y si bien aquel objetivo
se cumpli con creces, la idea primordial de prepararse
concienzudamente para el Mundial de 2008 sigue siendo el
norte del cuerpo tcnico y los jugadores.
Por eso la actividad que encarar el equipo mayor durante
octubre alegra a los responsables del equipo, quienes ven con
muy buenos ojos la competencia y el roce internacional para
pulir detalles y sumar experiencias en comn.
Los primeros dos compromisos sern en suelo brasilero, habida
cuenta que el equipo verdeamarelho, permanente colaborador
del futsal argentino, invit al equipo nacional a jugar dos amis-
tosos el 13 y 15 de octubre en su ciudad capital. Cinco das
despus, y hasta el 27 de octubre, se jugar el 3 Grand Prix
de Futsal, en tierras cariocas y con la participacin del local,
ms Argentina, Paraguay, Chile, Hungra, Blgica, Holanda,
Eslovaquia, Irn, Uzbekistn, Georgia, Libia y Egipto.
La importancia del Grand Prix, debido especialmente al nivel
de los contrincantes, hace que sea tomado por la mayora de
los pases como una mini Copa del Mundo. Y en ese sentido,
la Argentina se presentara con un plantel plasmado de
jugadores del futsal local. Ese equipo, compuesto por una
base de jugadores que ya alternan entre la Seleccin Mayor
y la Sub-20 tendr un exigente examen durante el viaje por
Brasil, y sin dudas sern analizados con seriedad pensando
en el recambio que se ve venir en el equipo mayor.
Tras la estada en Brasil, y partiendo desde all mismo, el
cuerpo tcnico se trasladar hacia Lisboa, donde los das 30
y 31 de octubre disputarn dos amistosos frente a Portugal,
utilizando esta vez a los componentes del equipo argentino
que actan en el exterior. En este caso, adems de hacer viajar
menos a los jugadores, ya que se tendran que movilizar desde
Espaa e Italia hacia Portugal, el cuerpo tcnico querr ver en
accin a la mayora de los futbolistas que jugaron los Juegos
Panamericanos, y evaluarlos de cara a las Eliminatorias, que se
jugaran en Uruguay hacia marzo de 2008, y el Mundial.

masculinos y deportes femeninos. No estamos lejos
de la verdad, pero en el momento actual estos conceptos
estn siendo organizados de otro modo. As como cambian
los seres humanos, cambian tambin sus costumbres y por

formara en el rugby, hoy ya comienza a ser practicado en forma
profesional por mujeres en pases occidentales y orientales.

disciplina. No obstante, la expansin del ftbol de mujeres se produce a pasos acelerados,
haciendo an ms popular este deporte que est hecho para el disfrute de todos.

SPORT MADE FOR EVERYONES ENJOYMENT EVEN MORE
POPULAR.
We are used to hearing that there are mens sports and
womens sports. This is not far from the truth, but today
these concepts are organized differently. As human beings
change and develop, so do their habits and, of course, the
sports that are part of their culture.
Most sports are mens sports and they are known by every-
body. But there are also typically womens sports, and those
played by both men and women, such as tennis, athletics,
swimming, hockey, volleyball, skating, jumps, golf, weightlif-
ting, ski, etc. And what about football?
Football originated in England in the Nineteenth Century, at
an all-boys school. Later, it also gave birth to rugby. Today,
it is professionally played by women in both Eastern and
Western countries.
Football is the most popular sport in the world, one in which
Argentina has been at a place of honour on countless occa-
sions. Its structure requires stamina, physical training, skill,
reflexes, flexibility, agility, speed, precision, rhythm, elasticity,
a specific build, sharp visual perception, as well as other
skills that are part of the personal features of each player.
Why would women play a sport with a high degree of aggres-
siveness? It is worth noting that a sport that at its origin was
for men can also be enjoyed by women. Certainly, physical
conditions are very important, but women (although not all)
can also play football. Arent there men that cannot play
certain sports due to their physical conditions? Here, the
prejudice of body aesthetics rears its ugly head.
We already know that womens football is played in coun-
tries such as China host country of the next FIFA Womens
World Cup, Germany, United States, and gradually also in
our country. In Argentina, we can even find a commercial for
cleaning products where a little girl asks to play football as a
condition to do a favour.
There are many theories that attempt to explain why women
make such choices. Among different reasons, there is
competitiveness with the stronger sex. Another explanation
is that football is practiced only by women who have a male
tendency as well as a stronger build than other women. This
may be similar in other sports, too.
Another hypothesis attempts to confirm whether women want
to occupy a similar place to that of men in sports. A much
more psychological and relatively unlikely assumption states
that some women may identify themselves with paternal
figures and the colour of their teams. Another theory points
to women currently desiring to occupy different positions of
power. Could it also be a vindication of women after so many
years of male domination?

As we can see, there are many hypotheses, fantasies and
theories around this subject.
Some answers may be found in Cultural Anthropology,
Sociology, or Psychology. However, it would be better to
carry out some research among female football players
themselves.
Alemania, Estados Unidos y poco a poco en nuestro pas.
Hasta encontramos en Argentina una propaganda de art-
culos de limpieza en la que una niita solicita jugar al ftbol
como premisa de un favor.
Muchas son las teoras que intentan dilucidar estas elec-
ciones por parte de las mujeres. Entre ellas, est la de la
competitividad con el sexo fuerte. Otra que lo practican
solamente mujeres que poseen una tendencia masculina, as
tambin como un cuerpo ms fuerte que el de otras mujeres.
Esto tambin podra asimilarse a otros deportes.
Otra hiptesis intentar verificar si las mujeres quieren
ocupar un lugar similar al de los hombres en el deporte.
Una suposicin mucho ms psicolgica y relativamente poco
probable seala que ciertas mujeres se habran identificado
con dolos paternos y con los colores de sus clubes. Otra
seala que las mujeres precisan en la actualidad distintos
espacios de poder. Podra acaso tratarse de alguna forma de
reivindicacin de la mujer despus de tantos aos de domi-
nacin masculina?

Como observamos, hiptesis, fantasas y teoras no faltan.
Algunas respuestas podrn venir desde la Antropologa
Cultural, otras desde la Sociologa, otras desde la Psicologa,
aunque en realidad lo ms conveniente sera realizar una
investigacin entre las mismas jugadoras de ftbol.
A tal efecto decidimos hacer una pequea encuesta en
Capital Federal con 80 mujeres y 40 hombres, por separado.
La nica pregunta que se hizo fue en forma abierta: Tiene
alguna idea de por qu algunas mujeres se dedican al ftbol?

Nota: Tambin se ha estrenado en USA y por cable canal una pelcula
sobre una jugadora de ftbol en el ao l978.
En muy bajo porcentaje, el ftbol femenino en esta breve
encuesta, fue aceptado. No obstante y a la luz de los actuales
acontecimientos futbolsticos, todo parecera indicar que
las cosas cambiarn para mejor. El ftbol femenino
tender a universalizarse? Si los hombres, desde nios hasta
la madurez, lo jugamos, por qu y desde dnde apartar a
las mujeres de un deporte que brinda tanto placer y para el
cual muchas ya han demostrado habilidades especficas sin
que se vea disminuida su naturaleza femenina?

Therefore, we decided to perform a little survey in Buenos
Aires city, with 80 women and 40 men answering separately.
This survey involved just one open question: Do you have
an idea why some women play football professionally? We
found some answers ranging from deep thoughts to the most
extreme forms of prejudice.
Men:
Women want to compare themselves with us.
They will never play as well as men do.
They must have some mental problem.
They have the right to play as we do, although their physical
structure is different.
It takes all sorts...

Note: There is also a movie shown in USA and on cable TV
about a female football player in 1978.
Womens football was accepted at a very small percentage
in this small survey. However, in the light of current football
events, everything seems to show that things will change
for the better. Will female football tend to become universal? If
we men have played it from boyhood to maturity, why should
we exclude women from a sport that brings them so much
pleasure, considering many of them have already proved to
have specific skills that do not diminish their femininity?

El estadio Centro Deportivo, de la ciudad de Wuhan, se haba construido
especialmente para la Copa Mundial de Ftbol Femenino de la FIFA China
2003, que finalmente se jug en los Estados Unidos. El resto de los estadios
sedes tambin han sido refaccionados casi en su totalidad para este
evento, dotndolos de altas tecnologas y acondicionamientos, para que los
aficionados disfruten del espectculo lo ms cmodos y seguros posible.

the World Cup of Womens Football of the FIFA China 2003 which was finally
played in the USA. The remaining venues have also been wholly restructured
for the event with top technologies and first rate facilities to provide football
supporters with full comfort and security to watch the event.

uchas cosas cambiaron desde la experiencia en
Estados Unidos 2003 y somos conscientes que
tenemos que demostrar que no somos las mismas. Adems,
el Mundial nos llega en el momento justo, cuando vemos
que encontramos el nivel y las cualidades deseables. Las
palabras de Clarisa Huber, referente del equipo argentino,
encarnan el espritu de todo el plantel que participar de la
Copa Mundial Femenina de la FIFA.
Y es cierto que este equipo argentino es otro, ha adquirido
una madurez esperada, confirm su crecimiento con resul-
tados y se nutri de opciones jvenes, que se mantienen a la
espera de llenar los espacios vacos. Lejos qued el recuerdo
de la primera experiencia del equipo en el torneo disputado
en Estados Unidos, cuando cay en los tres partidos, reci-
biendo 14 goles y marcando slo uno.
Tras ese periplo, que de ninguna manera se catalog como
fracaso, habida cuenta que sirvi como plataforma de partida
para el cambio, el cuerpo tcnico argentino y las jugadoras espe-
raban con deseo el regreso a la cita mxima de la disciplina.
Por eso, la preparacin del equipo en el Complejo
Habitacional Deportivo de Ezeiza se hace a conciencia y con
el claro espritu de demostrar que el crecimiento es palpable.

El quinto certamen ecumnico de ftbol femenino
se disputar del 10 al 30 de septiembre en China
con la participacin del equipo nacional, que
tratar de hacer notar su verdadero nivel y dejar
en claro que el crecimiento que viene demostrando
desde hace algunos aos puede dar los frutos en la
cita mxima de la disciplina. Entre los candidatos
vuelven a aparecer las selecciones de Alemania,
actual defensora del ttulo, Estados Unidos, Brasil y
el equipo anfitrin.
Realmente estamos muy bien, veo a las chicas muy
comprometidas con los entrenamientos y en cada partido
amistoso se notan las ganas de mejorar. Cada da me
sorprenden ms las chicas, al mostrar un nivel asombroso.
El plantel argentino intensific los entrenamientos durante los das previos al viaje a Oriente, manteniendo siempre la intensidad fsica y los

Many things have changed since our experience at United
States 2003. We are aware that we need to show we are
not the same. This World Cup comes at the right moment,
because we have reached our expected level and we have
developed our skills. The words of Clarisa Huber, figure of
the Argentine team, clearly reflect the spirit of the squad that
will play the next FIFA Womens World Cup.
It is true: this is a different Argentine team. They have
reached a necessary maturity, they have reaffirmed their
growth with good scores, and have new young players that
are eager to fill the empty spaces. They have left behind the
bitter memories of their first experience at the United States
championship, where they lost all three matches, conceding
14 goals and scoring only one.
That experience was in no way regarded as a failure, since it
served as a springboard for change. After that, the Argentine
technical body and players looked forward to coming back
to the ultimate event of this sport.
Therefore, the team are working hard at Ezeiza Training
Camp, with a clear aim to show that their growth is real.
We are really doing very well. I can see that girls are very
committed with training, and it is clear that they want to
improve at every friendly match. These girls surprise me
more and more every day, showing an amazing level. We
are no longer the team that used to lose by many goals to
European squads. We are going to prove it in China, said
coach Carlos Borello. And the enthusiasm he showed when
talking to Ftbol Argentino is also evident among players.
There are many encouraging factors. One of them is the
remarkable change of attitude of players. We have more
years at the National Team, interacting with other squads,
and we have grown a lot as a group. Each player fully trusts
the others and the technical body, adds Huber, highlighting
the virtues that make this team different.
Regarding Argentinas rivals in China, Borello explained:
We have already played against Germany and Japan in
the last World Cup, and we know that they have developed
and become much more professional. Although we have
never faced England, we have seen some videos where
they show great skills and physical strength. Stressing the
high level of Argentinas Group A, he added: We will play
against the second, eighth and twelfth teams in the world
(Germany, Japan and England, respectively). These are
three top contenders but, in my humble opinion, we may
surprise them.
The National Team will make their debut against Germany
on September 10, the opening day of the competition, in
Shanghai. Four days later, they will face Japan in the same
host city. Their last match in the first stage will take place in
Chengdu on September 17.
Hoy ya no somos el equipo que pierde por muchos goles con los
equipos europeos, y lo vamos a demostrar en China, ese entu-
siasmo que evidencia el entrenador Carlos Borello al hablar con
Ftbol Argentino es tambin comprobable entre las jugadoras.
Entre los factores que entusiasman se nota un marcado
cambio de mentalidad por parte de las jugadoras. Tenemos
ms aos de Seleccin, de interaccin con otros equipos y
crecimos mucho como grupo, cada una confa plenamente
en la otra y en el cuerpo tcnico, ampla Huber al sealar
las virtudes que hacen diferente a este equipo.
Con respecto a los rivales con que se encontrar el equipo
argentino en China, Borello anticip que con Alemania
y Japn ya jugamos en el mundial pasado, y sabemos que
han crecido y se han profesionalizado mucho. En el caso de
Inglaterra, si bien nunca jugamos frente a ellas, vimos algunos
videos y demostraron grandes virtudes y una importante
potencia fsica. Adems, para marcar el real nivel del Grupo
A, donde estar Argentina, ampli: Jugaremos contra el
segundo equipo del mundo (Alemania), el octavo (Japn)
y el dcimo segundo (Inglaterra). Tres potencias, entre las
que, humildemente, creo que daremos que hablar.
El debut del equipo nacional ser en el marco de la inau-
guracin del evento, el 10 de septiembre, cuando enfrente
a Alemania en Shanghai. Cuatro das despus ser el turno
de medir fuerzas ante Japn en la misma sede. Cerrar su
participacin en la primera fase el 17 de septiembre en la
ciudad de Chengdu.
El estadio de la sede de Shanghai recibir al equipo argentino en sus
dos primeras presentaciones. Adems all se jugarn cuatro partidos
ms por la fase de grupos, el match por el tercer puesto y la final.

De Acapulco a Ro
sin escalas
El Seleccionado argentino consigui el objetivo de clasificar para la Copa Mundial de Beach
Soccer de la FIFA Ro de Janeiro 2007, tras finalizar en la tercera colocacin del certamen
eliminatorio jugado en las playas mexicanas de Acapulco. La alegra por el logro deportivo
se multiplica an ms al comprobarse el positivo recambio que se asoma en el plantel.
E
l desafo era menos riesgoso del que se supona.
Teniendo en cuenta que dos de los tres participantes
de la Conmebol que actuaban en la Eliminatoria se
aseguraran el pasaje a Brasil, todo deba andar sobre
rieles. Pero los partidos haba que jugarlos y el temor por
el desempeo de las nuevas incorporaciones generaba
dudas en el seno del plantel que viaj a Acapulco para
participar de las eliminatorias para el Mundial de Ftbol
Playa de noviembre.
Y confirmando las especulaciones tempranas de cara al
debut, luego de la victoria ante Venezuela por 4 a 1 el
equipo conducido por Francisco Petrasso ya haba asegu-
rado su lugar en la cita mxima de la disciplina; y con el
logro consumado, los nervios y dudas se disiparon para
dejarle lugar al desempeo colectivo y el anlisis del equipo
de cara al futuro.
La principal preocupacin del cuerpo tcnico y algunos
jugadores experimentados tena que ver con la conforma-
cin del plantel, habida cuenta que algunas de las figuras
argentinas, con certeza figuras del ftbol playa mundial,
deben cumplir fechas de suspensin, y sus lugares debieron
ser ocupados por nuevas caras. Ese factor, el de las indivi-
dualidades, se compensaba con la casi instantnea cohesin
de grupo, que potenci el nimo de los jugadores.

punto de partida para corroborar algunos tems pensando en

el futuro. Ante Uruguay, en el segundo enfrentamiento, pudo
comprobarse el verdadero nivel del team argentino, primero
por el buen nivel del equipo charra y segundo, porque pese a
la derrota por 4 a 3, se le jug de igual a igual al actual subcam-
pen del mundo y se ratific que despus de Brasil, el podero
futbolstico sigue repartido entre uruguayos y argentinos.
Para la estadstica y a los simples efectos de determinar
una clasificacin general qued el partido ante Mxico,
con triunfo argentino por 6 a 5. Se confirm el buen nivel
grupal y algunas individualidades para seguir de cerca.
Con los pasajes a Brasil asegurados y la alegra por el logro,
el entrenador nacional, Francisco Petrasso, le expres a
Ftbol Argentino: Estoy muy conforme con el rendi-
miento del equipo. Jugamos tres partidos muy buenos, y
pese a la derrota ante Uruguay, ante Venezuela y Mxico
demostramos un buen nivel fsico y tctico. Adems, anti-
cipndose a la cita mundialista coment que seguiremos
con el ritmo de entrenamiento semanal, aunque probable-
mente intensifiquemos cuando reste un mes para el viaje.
Queremos jugar partidos amistosos y trataremos de hacer
una gira previa, para terminar de ensamblar las piezas y
llegar a Brasil con los mejores exponentes... nos debemos un
buen mundial, y ste puede ser el indicado.

The challenge was not so risky as it
seemed at first. Everything had to go smoothly considering
that two of the three participants of the Conmebol which
played the Qualifiers would go to Brazil. But the games
had still to be played and there was some fear for the
performance of the new players, something that generated
some doubts within the squad which flew to Acapulco to
participate in the qualifiers for the World Championship of
Beach Soccer in November.
And the early speculations before the debut were confirmed
with the victory 4-1 against Venezuela; the team coached
by Francisco Petrasso had achieved a place for the top
football meeting. With this victory, doubts and nervousness
disappeared and the team are revising their performance in
view of the future.
The main concern of the technical staff and of some
experienced players was how to make up the squad
considering that some Argentine stars, well-known abroad,
had been suspended and new faces had to play for them.
Anyway, the immediate cohesion of the group encouraged
the players and made up for the absence of individual
players.
After all, the good performance against Venezuela was the
starting point to confirm some items in view of the future.
In the second game against Uruguay, the Argentine team
displayed an excellent level, firstly, for the good level of
the Uruguayan team and, secondly, because in spite of
the defeat 4-3, it was a face to face game against the sub-
champion of the world and it was confirmed that after Brazil,
football power is shared between Uruguay and Argentina.
For the statistics and just to establish a general score there
was the game against Mexico where Argentina won 6-5
with a good performance of the group and some individual
players as well.
With the tickets ready for Brazil and the joy of the achievement,
the national coach, Francisco Petrasso said to Ftbol
Argentino: I am very satisfied with the performance of the
team. We played three very good games and in spite the
defeat against Uruguay, in the matches against Venezuela
and Mexico we showed a good physical and tactic level.
Also, in advance of the World Championship he said that we
will continue with the same rhythm of training weekly though
we will probably increase it a month before the flight. We
want to play friendly matches and we will go on a previous
tour in order to finish the assembly of the parts and arrive
in Brazil with the best exponents... we need a good world

El centenario del Club San Martn de San Juan es vivido con gran emocin por los
simpatizantes del ftbol provincial. Es el primer equipo con vigencia en la actualidad que
alcanza los 100 aos y los celebra jugando, luego de casi cuatro dcadas, en la mxima
categora. El periodista Claudio Bonomo, Director de Radio Sports -FM 97.9- detalla, para
Ftbol Argentino, las emociones que se viven actualmente en tierras sanjuaninas.
U
na centuria es mucho tiempo, sin dudas es as. Pero
como a los buenos vinos, cuando se los elabora con
uvas de calidad y el aejamiento correspondiente, se logra un
producto genuino que seguramente perdurar en el tiempo.
Esto es lo que sucedi con el ftbol sanjuanino en este
nuevo siglo, cuando logr al fin y al cabo la mayora de
edad competitiva. Mucho se trabaj y bastante ms ser lo
que habr que hacer para mantener lo alcanzado. Este es el
desafo actual de una dirigencia que se vio superada por los
verdaderos protagonistas, que son los jugadores, los respon-
sables directos junto a su cuerpo tcnico.
Las constantes de estos deportistas parecen haber sido actitud
y responsabilidad, entregar el todo por el todo. En sntesis,
transpirar la camiseta constantemente. Haciendo suyos los
versos del poeta Pedro Palacios, el querido y siempre recor-
dado Almafuerte, quien deca en algunos de ellos no te
des por vencido, ni an vencido. Y eso fue lo que hicieron los
verdinegros luego de la derrota en Buenos Aires ante Huracn
de Parque Patricios, cuando jugaron la primera final por el
segundo ascenso a Primera Divisin, que finalmente dieron
vuelta en su estadio ante una feliz multitud.

IT IS THE FIRST CURRENT TEAM WHICH CELEBRATES THE
100 YEARS PLAYING AFTER ALMOST FOUR DECADES ON
THE TOP CATEGORY. THE JOURNALIST CLAUDIO BONOMO,

FTBOL ARGENTINO THE EMOTIONS EXPERIENCED IN THIS
LANDS OF SAN JUAN.
No doubt, a century is a long time. But just like in the case
of good wines when they are made with first rate grapes and
the corresponding ageing, it is possible to have a genuine
product which will surely remain.
This is the experience of football in San Juan during the
new century when it reached full age playing. It was hard
work and there is still much to do. In fact, this is the current
challenge for managers who were surpassed by the true
leading figures: the players and the technical staff.
The attitude of these sportsmen seems to have been
behaviour and responsibility doing their best. In short,
sweat the shirt constantly following the lines of the poet
Pedro Palacios (Almafuerte) saying ...dont give in even
when you are defeated. That was the attitude of the green
and black team after the defeat in Buenos Aires against
Huracn in Parque Patricios when they played the first final
for the second promotion to the Premier Division and which
finally reverted in its stadium watched by a happy crowd.
History started long before...
... it was early in the 20th century when the first football clubs
appeared in San Juan. Benjamn Snchez was a manager
forerunner of this activity. And also Club Atltico de la Jueventud
born in 1905 which has joined another institution and is now
called Atltico de la Juventud-Alianza. However, San Martn Club
born in 1907 is the only one existing with its original organisation
and statute; for this reason, it is the leading football club.
A great experience was made all along these years. Not only due
to the changes suffered in our country, since football in general
and San Martn in particular have also lived a deep process of
change; there were times of difficult financial situations and also
remarkable teams that made their supporters happy.
The club participated in the National Tournament of 1970 of
the First Division placed at the bottom of Group B among
ten teams with four victories, five draws and eleven defeats.
In the 90s to say goodbye to the century, the club found a place
at the National B where after the promotion started to fight for
the qualification for reduced promotions. However, though the
club did not reach the promotion until the last season, and then
fought the play-off against Racing of Crdoba in 2005 to avoid
relegation, the experience made in the premier division of the
AFA was very important to give the next steps.
The club achieved the promotion when the institution was
at its peak, remodelling and enlarging Hilario Snchez
stadium and also developing a busy social activity. San
Martn is enjoying a double emotion, that is, to be 100 years
old and celebrate them participating in the top category of
Argentine football where only a few arrive, and where the
green and black team will intend to leave its mark.
La historia comenz mucho antes
fue a comienzos del siglo XX, cuando empezaron a aparecer los
clubes de ftbol en San Juan. Con el recordado dirigente Benjamn
Snchez como uno de los precursores de esta actividad. O el ya
desaparecido club Atltico de la Juventud, nacido en 1905 y que
actualmente se fusion con otra institucin y se llama Atltico de
la Juventud-Alianza. Sin embargo el club San Martn, nacido en
septiembre de 1907, es el nico que sigue vigente, manteniendo su
estructura estatutaria y organizativa, lo que hace que sea el actual
club decano del ms popular de los deportes.
Desde aquel entonces hasta hoy, hubo mucha tela para cortar.
Y no slo por los cambios que experiment nuestra nacin,
que transit por las ms diversas realidades. Y es que el ftbol
argentino, y San Martn en particular, tambin vivi procesos
de profundos cambios, pocas de dificultades econmicas,
equipos superlativos que enamoraron a miles de simpatizantes.
Particip en el Torneo Nacional de 1970 de la Primera Divisin,
quedando en el ltimo puesto del Grupo B, entre diez equipos,
con cuatro victorias, cinco empates y 11 derrotas.
En la dcada del 90, para despedir el siglo, el club encontr su lugar
en la B Nacional, donde a poco de haber ascendido ya se hallaba
peleando clasificaciones a torneos reducidos por los ascensos en juego.
Sin embargo, pese a no conseguir el ascenso hasta la ltima temporada
y haber peleado la revlida para no descender ante Racing de Crdoba
en 2005, la experiencia acumulada en la principal divisin de ascenso
de la AFA fue de suma importancia para lo que viene.
El ascenso encuentra al club en su apogeo institucional. La remode-
lacin y ampliacin del estadio Hilario Snchez, ms el auge que
evidencia desde lo social y el aporte de la llegada de los medios al club
le dan renovados aires a San Martn, quien vive por esta poca la doble
emocin de cumplir sus primeros 100 aos de vida y festejarlos parti-
cipando en la mxima categora del ftbol argentino, donde pocos
pudieron llegar, y en la cual el verdinegro tratar de dejar su sello.

oficiales de Primera Divisin y uno no oficial. El detalle es el

Catalogada como una de las entidades de la regin de Cuyo con ms
empuje y presencia en el Consejo Federal, la Liga Sanjuanina de Ftbol
asoma en el universo liguista con nuevos aires y la novedad de tener
entre sus clubes a San Martn, protagonista de la Primera Divisin,
hecho que modific de plano al ftbol de la ciudad y los alrededores.
E
mplazada en la regin sureste del mbito provincial,
la ciudad de San Juan, capital de la provincia hom-
nima, se presenta como una de las ms pujantes de la
regin. Protagonista de la historia argentina, San Juan
recin se sum a la rbita de la Nacin en 1776, cuando
fue separada de la Gobernacin de Chile e incorporada al
Virreinato del Ro de la Plata, como parte de la provincia
de Tucumn. Luego de formar parte de la intendencia
de Salta y de la de Crdoba, en 1820 adquiri soberana
absoluta junto a las ciudades de San Luis y Mendoza.
Por esas tierras pasaron los responsables de la gesta
sanmartiniana, con el General a la cabeza, en sus
excursiones libertadoras. Adems, de San Juan es el ex
presidente Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, el primer
educador. Por ltimo, tambin en San Juan se produjo
el terremoto ms trgico que se recuerde en el pas, en el
ao 1944, dejando a la ciudad totalmente destruida.
Estos tips histricos, importantes para comprender la
magnitud de la regin en la historia argentina, tienen un
parangn tambin en el ftbol de la ciudad. Principalmente
por la presencia de la Liga en el mbito dirigencial de
Buenos Aires, donde Alfredo Derito, presidente de la Liga
Sanjuanina, es a su vez Secretario General del Consejo
Federal. Esta realidad, que se debe al deseo de los diri-
gentes, representa, segn el presidente liguista, la posi-
bilidad de seguir de cerca al ftbol federal, teniendo a la
Liga como ejemplo de aceptacin de las disposiciones que
emanen del Consejo.

Con peso en la historia del ftbol
Y para ser coherentes con el destino puntano, que ubic a
San Juan siempre cerca de los acontecimientos fundacio-
nales de la Nacin, el ftbol cuenta con un peso propio,
que lo dota del poder para generar actividades y seguir la
poltica del Consejo Federal.
Por ello es de resaltar la presencia de 24 clubes afiliados
y la participacin de cinco entidades en los certmenes
nacionales, tres clubes por ao en el Torneo del Interior,
ms Sportivo Desamparados en el Torneo Argentino A y
San Martn en la Primera Divisin. El resto de los clubes
participan en dos torneos anuales, llamados Apertura y
Oficial, que consagra a dos clubes campeones y clasifica
a tres equipos al Torneo del Interior.

THE LEAGUE PLAYS AN IMPORTANT ROLE
SAN JUAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE IS ONE OF THE MOST
ENTHUSIASTIC AND INFLUENTIAL INSTITUTIONS
REPRESENTING CUYO REGION IN THE FEDERAL COUNCIL.
IT BRINGS INNOVATION AMONG THE LEAGUES AND HAS
SAN MARTN CLUB WHICH WAS THE LEADING FIGURE IN
THE PREMIER DIVISION. THIS FACT CHANGED FOOTBALL
ACTIVITY IN THE CITY AND THE SURROUNDING AREA.
San Juan City, capital of the province situated south east of
the province is one of the most progressive of the region.
It played a significant role in Argentine history and was
included in Argentina in 1776 when it separated from Chile
Government and joined Rio de la Plata Viceroyalty making
part of Tucumn province. It then belonged to Salta and
Crdoba until 1820 when it acquired its sovereignty the
same as San Luis and Mendoza cities. General San Martn
crossed the province with his soldiers on their way to fight for
freedom. Also, the ex-President Domingo Faustino Sarmiento
the first teacher was born there. Finally, there was a tragic
earthquake in 1944 leaving the city completely destroyed.
These historic milestones are important in order to understand
the influence of the region in Argentine history; football has
also made a similar experience. It is significant that the
League is also present in the leading institution of Buenos
Aires where Mr. Alfredo Derito, President of San Juan
League, is also the General Secretary of the Federal Council.
For the President of the League it is the possibility to be in
close contact with federal football since the League is an
example of acceptance of the regulations adopted by the
Council.
Playing an important role in the history of football
Just like San Juan was always near significant achievements
of our country, football has also played an important role in
the province and was able to generate activities according
to the policies of the Federal Council.
For this reason, there are 24 affiliated clubs and 5 institutions
participating in national tournaments, 3 play annually in
the Tournament of the Interior, in addition to Sportivo
Desamparados which participates in the Argentine
Tournament A and San Marn in the Premier Division. The
remaining clubs participate in two annual tournaments:
Opening and Official which establishes two champion teams
and qualifies three teams for the Tournament of the Interior.
Apart from the contribution of senior teams, there are also
childrens football that makes the city proud and confirms
the future of this activity encouraging their education and
helping the youngest to grow up healthily.
Mr. Alejandro Maneri is the head of the press and public
relations of the League and explains to Ftbol Argentino
that we are very much concerned with childrens football
and for this reason we pay great attention to the needs of
the clubs with lower divisions and to the 15 football schools
which participate exclusively in the tournaments of childrens
football of San Juan League.
The League carries out an outstanding administrative activity
since it is constantly updated on the latest regulations and
it is also an efficient mediator between the clubs and the
Federal Council. On the other hand, the delegates of the
clubs make their contribution to satisfy the requirements
established by the regulations governing the application of
the statutes; in this way, also the employees of the League
feel encouraged to continue with their work.
The League not only deals with activities related to local

Pero adems de todo lo que le aportan al ftbol los
equipos mayores, la presencia del ftbol infantil es, para
la ciudad, otra razn de orgullo, ya que asegura el futuro
del deporte y complementa sanamente la educacin y
crecimiento de los pequeos.
El responsable de prensa y relaciones pblicas de la Liga,
Alejandro Maneri, le explica a Ftbol Argentino que
nos interesa y mucho el quehacer de los nios futbo-
listas, y por ello se le presta especial atencin a las nece-
sidades de los clubes con divisiones inferiores y a las 15
escuelas de ftbol, que participan exclusivamente en los
torneos de ftbol infantil de la Liga Sanjuanina.
De destacar es la actividad administrativa de la Liga, que
se mantiene constantemente aggiornada de las nuevas
disposiciones y ejerce eficazmente la funcin de inter-
mediaria entre los clubes y el Consejo Federal. El aporte
que hacen los delegados, a su vez, para cumplimentar en
tiempo y forma con todas las exigencias, es un aliciente
para el trabajo de los empleados liguistas, quienes ven con
buenos ojos la responsabilidad de los clubes al momento
de cumplir con los reglamentos vigentes.
Adems de todas las actividades relacionadas al ftbol
local, la sede de la Liga recibe mensualmente a los
instructores de rbitros que participan del curso que el
Consejo Federal dicta en el interior del pas. Y la elec-
cin de la ciudad de San Juan como sede de ese curso
para la regin de Cuyo y Norte tiene mucho que ver con
el trabajo serio y responsable que se lleva adelante en la
Liga, que acoge con benevolencia a todos los compo-
nentes del ftbol regional.
En ese sentido, el tesorero de la Liga, Ral Gimnez, aclara
que es motivo de verdadero orgullo poder recibir a los
instructores de rbitros de otras ciudades, y a los encargados
de dictar los cursos. Sabemos que necesitamos actualizarnos
constantemente y por eso ofrecemos en todo momento nues-
tras instalaciones y estructura para que desde aqu salgan los
componentes de capacitacin para el ftbol del interior.
No caben dudas que con este panorama debe decirse
que la Liga Sanjuanina cuenta con un importante peso
propio para generar y mejorar al ftbol. Sin embargo,
desde el mero plano futbolstico, quedan algunos
proyectos por cumplir desde el deseo de la dirigencia.

Y el principal tiene que ver con dotar a la Liga de un Estadio
Provincial, emplazado en la ciudad de San Juan y que est al
servicio de toda la provincia y los clubes con participacin
en certmenes nacionales. El proyecto ya est en marcha y,
segn Derito, slo falta poner la fecha de comienzo de la
obra. Estamos ultimando detalles con la empresa construc-
tora y el Gobierno Municipal y Provincial, pero ser dentro
de poco tiempo una realidad digna de orgullo.
Ese hecho, y el placer de ver a un club local, como San
Martn, codearse con los principales equipos del ftbol
nacional, no hacen ms que regodear a los amantes del
ftbol, a los hinchas, que ven a una Liga preocupada y
acorde a las exigencias, con proyectos claros y ambiciosos
y un equipo representndolos en todo el pas.

football but it also welcomes monthly the instructors of the
referees who participate in the course of the Federal Council
in the provinces. San Juan City has been appointed the
venue of the course for Cuyo and Northern regions due to
the responsible and conscientious work of the League which
joins all the people of regional football.
In this respect, the treasurer of the League, Mr. Raul Gimnez,
makes clear that we are proud to welcome the instructors of
referees from other cities as well as the professors. We know
that we have to be continually updated and for this reason
we offer our facilities to help develop provincial football.
No doubt, San Juan League plays an important role to
generate and improve football. However, managers have
some more projects to carry on; their wish is to have a
Provincial Stadium in San Juan City to offer to all the province
and also to the clubs participating in national tournaments.
The project is under way and according to Derito, we have
to fix the date to start the works, we are discussing some
details with the building company and the City and Provincial
Government, but it will be soon a real achievement which
makes us proud.
That project and the pleasure to see San Martn, a local club,
participating with the top teams of national football gives
a great joy to their supporters who see the concern of the
League to meet the requirements with clear ambitious projects
and also a team representing them all along the country.

stoy muy contento con el desempeo de cada
instructor cursante de los mdulos. Al margen de
las cualidades de cada uno como docentes y adems de ser
personas experimentadas en el arbitraje tenemos que resaltar
las ganas e mpetu por perfeccionarse, compartir experien-
cias y preocuparse por los rbitros de sus ligas de origen.
Eso es lo ms positivo del curso. Con esas palabras, Juan
Carlos Crespi expresa los sentimientos que le genera ser el
responsable del curso para instructores de rbitros que dicta
el Consejo Federal.
Las jornadas de trabajo, repartidas en tres clases, se llevan
adelante en distintas sedes del pas, con la intencin de
repartir coherentemente a los instructores de acuerdo a su
origen geogrfico. As, cada Liga interesada enva a su repre-
sentante a las ciudades de San Juan, Rosario o Baha Blanca.
Aprender a ensear
Dedicado a los instructores de rbitros de todo el pas, el curso, organizado por el Consejo
Federal y que se rige de acuerdo a los dictmenes del Future III de la FIFA, se asoma como
la oportunidad de encuadrar metodologas comunes, unificar criterios y directrices en pos
de un arbitraje cada da mejor.
La metodologa de trabajo se asoma como novedosa, princi-
palmente por el dictado de clases prcticas. En ese sentido,
Crespi le aclara a Ftbol Argentino que son sumamente
novedosos los trabajos en el campo de juego. Primero
porque ninguno de los instructores del curso, que fuimos
rbitros hace muchos aos, tuvimos una capacitacin tan
completa como la que dicta el Future III y no conocamos
el perfeccionamiento dentro de la cancha. Adems, es clave
para todos los rbitros e instructores mejorar la concentra-
cin y eficacia dentro del mbito donde se desempean.
Adems de la jornada en el estadio, junto a rbitros de la
Liga anfitriona, que toman la clase con la colaboracin de
jugadores de la ciudad, que ejemplifican jugadas y posi-
ciones, los instructores participan de dos das de clases

FUTURE III OF THE FIFA. IT INTENDS TO REACH COMMON
METHODOLOGIES, TO JOIN CRITERIA AND ACTIONS TO
IMPROVE REFEREEING.
Im very happy with the instructors who carry out the
teaching units. They are good teachers with great experience
as referees but it is also satisfying to see their enthusiasm to
improve themselves, share experiences with a concern for
the referees of their leagues. It is the most positive feature of
the course. This is the opinion of Juan Carlos Crespi expre-
ssing his feelings as responsible of the course for instructors
of referees organised by the Federal Council.
Daily work is divided into three lessons given in different
venues of the country with the intention to appoint the
instructors according to the geographic origin. In this way,
every League sends his representative to the cities of San
Juan, Rosario or Baha Blanca.
The methodology of work is innovative mainly in the practical
lessons. In this respect, Crespi explains to Ftbol Argentino
that the work in the field is very innovative. Firstly, because
the instructors of the course who were referees long ago, did
not have such a complete training like the one organised by
the Future III and we did not know the improvement inside
the field either. Also, it is a key feature for all the referees and
instructors to improve concentration and efficiency within
their environment.
The instructors work in the stadium with the referees of the
host League who have the lessons with the contribution
of players of the city showing moves and positions, they
also participate in lessons of theory twice a week. On this
occasion, they revise some specific rules of play which may
generate misunderstanding and disagreement of opinion.
During the theory the instructors explain their skill and
qualities to handle groups and evacuate doubts, for this
reason, debates are usually very passionate and take most
of the time. Crespi added that this is the importance of the
lessons. All the participants have the necessary knowledge
to instruct referees, and for this motive, we dont emphasise
so much subjects related to the regulations, something that
we do with referees. In this case, our wish is that the fruit
of every debate and subject could be to join criteria and
guidelines to teach refeering.
One of the most experienced and recognised participant is
Julio Csar Gutirrez, Director of the School of Referees of

tudes y capacidades para manejar grupos y evacuar dudas,
y eso conlleva a que los debates, en ms de un caso suma-
mente pasionales, ocupen gran parte de la escena. Crespi
aade que se es el verdadero valor de las clases. Todos
los participantes tienen los conocimientos necesarios para
instruir rbitros, por eso no hacemos tanto hincapi en
temas reglamentarios, como s hacemos con los rbitros. En
estos casos lo que queremos es que el fruto de cada debate
y exposicin sea una unificacin de criterios y modos de
ensear el arbitraje.
Entre los participantes, uno de los ms experimentados
y reconocidos por sus propios compaeros es Julio Csar
Gutirrez, Director de la Escuela de rbitros de la Liga

El curso en la ciudad de Rosario cuenta con instructores de otras
localidades de la provincia y del litoral. / The course in Rosario City
has instructors from other towns of the province and litoral district.
Tucumana de Ftbol, quien expresa que poder participar
de este curso es siempre importante y positivo. Para m y
mis colegas es fundamental estar acorde a las modifica-
ciones que la FIFA realiza con relacin a las reglas de juego,
y en el curso podemos ahondar en cada cambio. Tengo la
sensacin que luego de cada jornada de trabajo todos los
participantes quedamos llenos de nueva informacin, dife-
rentes maneras de ensear y de entender el arbitraje, una
pasin que todos encarnamos desde hace muchos aos.
La metodologa expuesta por Juan Carlos Crespi, mximo
responsable del dictado de las clases, es otro de los tems
que resaltan los instructores a la hora de marcar los
aspectos positivos. En ese sentido, el Instructor de la Liga
de Perico del Carmen de Jujuy, Carlos Nazir Dagm,
comenta que el trabajo de Crespi al frente de los instruc-
tores es, adems de referencial, un espejo al momento de
ver cmo educar a los rbitros. Nunca nos dijeron cmo
ensear a los futuros y actuales rbitros, y si bien la parte
pedaggica es muy personal, ver cmo ensean los otros
instructores y de qu manera se desempea Crespi con
nosotros puede ser tomado en cuenta como base de nuestro
trabajo en la Liga.
En diciembre se dictar la ltima jornada del curso del
ao 2007, y aunque an no estn definidas las sedes para
el futuro, est confirmado que durante 2008 se seguir
con el curso, por el bien de los instructores de cada Liga,
por el futuro de los rbitros del pas y en beneficio de un
mejor ftbol.

Los instructores de las ligas patagnicas se renen en la ciudad de
Baha Blanca para cursar las clases. / The instructors of Patagonian
Leagues meet in Baha Blanca City to take the lessons.
San Juan es el punto de reunin de los instructores de las ligas de
cuyo, el centro y el norte del pas. / San Juan is the meeting place of
the instructors of the Leagues of Cuyo, Central and Northern country.
Tucumn Football League who says that it is always important
and positive to participate in this course. For me and for my
colleagues it is essential to work according to the changes that
the FIFA makes related to the rules of play, and in the course
we can examine them in detail. I feel that after the course all the
participants have new information, different methodologies to
teach and to understand refereeing, a passion that we all have
been living for so long.
The methodology offered by Juan Carlos Crespi, responsible of
the lessons, is one of the items that every instructor emphasises
when it comes down to determine the positive aspects. Carlos
Nazir Dagm, Instructor of the League of Perico del Carmen of
Jujuy says that the work of Crespi leading the instructors makes
him not only a referent but also a mirror to look at and see how to
educate referees. We were never told how to teach the future and
current referees, and though pedagogy is very personal, the fact
that we can see how the other instructors teach and how Crespi
behaves with us can be very useful for our work in the League.
The course 2007 will finish in December and though the future
venues have not been decided yet, it has been confirmed that
during 2008 the course will continue, for the good of the instruc-
tors of every League, for the future of the referees of the country
and for the benefit of football.

Liga de Ftbol de Arrecifes
El Torneo Clausura, uno de los certmenes oficiales de la Liga de ftbol
de la ciudad bonaerense de Arrecifes, arranc con la participacin de 10
equipos que presentan adems plantel en todas las divisiones inferiores.
Los participantes son: Almirante Brown, Sofocasar, Deportivo
Palermo, El Fortn, Villa Sanguinetti, Huracn, San Francisco,
Cosmopolita de Todd, Obras Sanitarias y Sportsman. Los candidatos
liguistas a alzarse nuevamente con el cetro son los clubes San Francisco y
Cosmopolita de Todd, quienes vencieron en los torneos de 2006 y cuentan
con las mejores posibilidades para repetir en esta ocasin.
Liga Regional de Ftbol de Canals
El ftbol oficial de la ciudad de Canals, en la Provincia de Crdoba, entr
en su etapa de definicin habida cuenta que al cierre de esta edicin se
disputaban los cuartos de final del Torneo Oficial de la Liga Regional.
Los protagonistas de la instancia eran los clubes Libertad, Indepen-
diente, Belgrano, Canalense, Jorge Ross y Central Argentino. Por su
parte, otros dos equipos se sumarn a ellos tras la disputa de los partidos
por la revlida entre las zonas Campeonato y Repechaje. Los clubes protago-
nistas de esa instancia eran: Arias Ftbol Club, Sarmiento, Los Andes y Lawn
Tenis. En el caso de los dos primeros clubes se determin que cuenten con la
clsica ventaja deportiva por llegar a la instancia desde las zonas campeonato.
Liga Formosea de Ftbol
La entidad rectora del ftbol capital de la provincia de Formosa tambin
entr en las instancias finales de su certamen de Primera Divisin.
Los ocho clubes clasificados a los play offs por eliminacin directa
seguirn en competencia, mientras que los restantes protagonistas del
certamen entraron en un receso hasta comienzos del prximo ao. Los
choques por los cuartos de final son los siguientes: San Jos Obrero vs.
Domingo Savio, Sol de Amrica vs. 1 de Mayo, Defensores de Formosa vs.
Sportivo Patria y San Martn vs. Defensa y Justicia, en todos los casos, los
cuatro primeros clasificados cuentan con ventaja deportiva en caso de igualdad
de puntos y goles. Los dos clubes que descendieron de categora y jugarn la
prxima temporada en la Divisin B son Inter y 8 de diciembre.
Liga Cultural de Ftbol
La liga de la ciudad pampeana de Santa Rosa dio por inaugurado el
certamen Copa Presidente Anbal Zamudio con el enfrentamiento entre
Atltico Santa Rosa y Mutual Guardavidas. El segundo torneo de la tempo-
rada, que agrupa a equipos de la Primera A y de la Primera B, cuenta
con la participacin de 20 instituciones, divididas en zona norte y zona sur, y
en cada una de ellas habr dos grupos (A y B). Los participantes son: Atltico Santa
Rosa, Mutual Guardavidas, Sarmiento, Deportivo Uriburu, Unin y Amistad,
Deportivo Mac Allister, Atltico Macachn, Barrio Matadero, Independiente de
Doblas, Deportivo Anguilense, Unin de Villa Iris, Independiente de Jacinto
Arauz, Villa Mengelle, Unin Bernasconi, Gimnasia de Darregueira, Unin de
Campos, Pampero de Guatrach, Argentino de Darregueira, Deportivo Alpachiri
y Campos de General Acha.
ARRECIFES FOOTBALL LEAGUE
The Closing Tournament, one of the official tournaments of the football
League of the city of Arrecifes in Buenos Aires province, started with
the participation of 10 teams which also participate with their lower divi-
sions. The participants are the following: Almirante Brown, Sofocasar,
Deportivo Palermo, El Fortn, Villa Sanguinetti, Huracn, San Francisco,
Cosmopolita de Todd, Obras Sanitarias and Sportsman. The candi-
dates of the League are San Francisco and Cosmopolita de Todd

to repeat their victory.
CANALS REGIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE
The official football of Canals city in the Province of Crdoba was deci-
ding its participation since at the close of this edition it was playing
the quarter final of the Official Tournament of the Regional League.
The participating clubs were Libertad, Independiente, Belgrano,
Canalense, Jorge Ross and Central Argentino. On the other hand,
two more teams will be added after playing the games between the
zones Campeonato and repechaje. The clubs playing at this instance
were: Arias Football Club, Sarmiento, Los Andes and Lawn tennis. In
the case of the first two clubs, they will have the traditional advantage
because they reached the instance from campeonato zones.
FORMOSA FOOTBALL LEAGUE
The leading football institution of Formosa province has also started
the final instances of First Division Tournament. The eight clubs
qualified for the play off by direct elimination will continue the tour-
nament while the remaining teams are in a recess until next year.
The games for the quarter finals are as follows: San Jos Obrero vs
Domingo Savio, Sol of America vs 1 of May, Defensores of Formosa

La entrada en calor
precompetitiva
La llegada y auge del ftbol playa lleva a replantear estrategias de trabajo y, en caso de ser
necesario, incluir nuevas metodologas, ms ajustadas a la actividad. Y en este sentido, la
entrada en calor, importante para prevenir las lesiones que pueda producir este deporte,
result ser un tem poco resuelto, habida cuenta de las diferencias del suelo, las condiciones
del calzado y las exigencias tpicas de la actividad. Estas lneas tratarn de aclarar el tema,
minimizando las diferencias entre las dos actividades y poniendo de manifiesto la real
importancia de los movimientos precompetitivos.
A
nadie se le ocurrira encender su auto una maana
helada de invierno y salir inmediatamente a mxima
velocidad con el motor fro. Sabido es que ello conllevara
una posible rotura del motor.
El cuerpo del deportista requiere del mismo cuidado, con la
diferencia que el organismo es nico e irrepetible, mientras
que autos hay muchos y ms baratos...
Esta presentacin debera servir para generar conciencia
sobre la importancia del calentamiento precompetitivo, que
se basa fundamentalmente en preparar fsica y psicolgica-
mente al deportista previo a la realizacin de un entrena-
miento o un partido.
El sustento cientfico que apuntala la entrada en calor
se basa en realizar una accin muscular que provoque el
aumento de la temperatura corporal, lo cual generar un
mejoramiento coordinativo, previniendo adems lesiones
musculares y articulares, predisponiendo de manera ms
efectiva al sistema neuromuscular, lo cual generar en el
deportista movimientos ms veloces, ms fuertes y resis-
tentes, por dems necesarios en toda prctica deportiva.
La entrada en calor se desarrolla normalmente de manera
progresiva, buscando aumentar el ritmo respiratorio y la
frecuencia cardiaca de manera gradual. Esto se logra con
trotes suaves a moderados, combinados en algunos casos con
ejercicios de movilidad articular. La flexibilidad muscular se
estimula constantemente, en todo momento, y el hecho de

WARMING UP BEFORE THE COMPETITION
BEACH SOCCER HAS RAPIDLY GAINED POPULARITY AND IT
REQUIRES TO EXAMINE OUR STRATEGIES TO DEAL WITH IT,
AND IF NECESSARY, INCLUDE NEW METHODOLOGIES MORE
ADAPTED TO THIS ACTIVITY. IN THIS RESPECT, WARMING-UP
WHICH IS IMPORTANT TO PREVENT INJURIES IN THIS SPORT,
EMERGED LIKE AN ITEM TO BE REVISED SINCE THERE ARE
MANY DIFFERENCES OF GROUND, AS WELL AS THE VARIETY
OF FOOTWEAR AND THE TYPICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE
ACTIVITY ITSELF. HERE, WE INTEND TO REVISE THE SUBJECT
ENHANCING THE IMPORTANCE OF THE MOVEMENTS MADE
BEFORE THE COMPETITION.
No one would start his car a freezing winter morning and run
at full speed with the engine cold, because it would break
the engine down. The body of the sportsman needs the
same care, with the difference that the body is unique and
irreplaceable while there are many cars even cheaper...
This should be a useful introduction to be conscious about
the importance of warming-up before the competition which
is essentially founded on the physical and psychological
preparation of the sportsman before a practice or game.
The scientific reason that supports the input of heat is to
do a muscular action which may result in the increase of
body temperature which, in turn, will generate a better
co-ordination, preventing muscular and articular injuries,
making more effective the neuro muscular system which
will give the sportsman faster movements also stronger and
resistant, something necessary in every sports practice.
The input of heat is normally developed gradually trying
to increase the respiratory rhythm and the heart beating
gradually. It is possible with soft moderate trot combined, in
some cases, with exercises moving the joints; the muscular
flexibility is constantly stimulated, and the fact that the
muscles are stretched is useful to prevent injuries and helps
the efficiency of the technical gesture.
In football, every physical trainer has his own methodology of
warming-up. We usually agree to have exercises similar to those
developed in training sessions or the game itself. Sometimes,
it implies to use the ball like an essential element in order to
secure the physical-technical aspect which is so important in
the competition (pass, follow a pass, header, etc.).
I personally use to divide the input of heat, before the
competition, into three units: one initial which includes
trotting and specific movements; in the second unit I use
weight exercises, jumps, co-ordination and speed intending
to improve power, very necessary in the actions of current
football; and finally I use a third unit where I include the ball
to develop and adjust the specific technical gesture; with
the last mentioned exercises I want to improve both the
technical aspect and the psychological factor related to the
increase of confidence of the player which is also useful for
the adaptation to the ground, footwear, height of turf where
the game takes place.
An input of heat lasts from 20 to 30 minutes though environmental
factors such as heat and wet have their influence in the duration,
intensity and breaks before the competition.
Finally, I think it useful to say that my experience in beach
soccer makes me to conclude that there shouldnt be any
differences between the input of heat in turf football or in
beach soccer. I personally use turf and players with footwear
for the first part, and then, barefooted for the technical
gestures on sand.
For this reason, from now on, whenever we want to start the
body, in the morning when it is cold, it is important to think it
over before pressing the accelerator...

En el ftbol, cada preparador fsico tiene su metodologa de
calentamiento. Generalmente coincidimos en llevar los ejer-
cicios a situaciones similares a las que se desarrollaran en el
entrenamiento o en el partido formal. Esto implica utilizar
en muchos casos el baln como elemento fundamental
para afianzar el aspecto fsico-tcnico, tan importante en la
competencia (pase, recepcin, cabezazo, etc.).
Personalmente suelo dividir la entrada en calor, previa a la
competencia, en tres bloques: uno inicial que busca acciones
con trotes y desplazamientos especficos; en el segundo
bloque aplico la ejecucin de ejercicios de fuerza, saltos, coor-
dinacin y velocidad en busca de mejorar la potencia, muy
necesaria en las acciones del ftbol actual; y por ltimo aplico
un tercer bloque en el que incluyo la pelota para el desarrollo
y ajuste del gesto tcnico especfico. Con estos ltimos ejer-
cicios busco mejorar, no slo el aspecto tcnico, sino tambin
el factor psicolgico en relacin al aumento de la confianza
del jugador, sirviendo de ajuste y adaptacin al suelo, calzado,
altura del csped en donde se desarrollar el juego.
La duracin de una entrada en calor oscila entre 20 y 30
minutos, aunque los factores ambientales, como el calor y la
humedad, tienen su influencia en la duracin, la intensidad
y las pausas del trabajo precompetitivo.
Por ltimo, creo que es bueno comentar que mi experiencia
en el beach soccer me lleva a la conclusin de que no debera
haber grandes diferencias entre una entrada en calor de ftbol
once y otra de ftbol playa. Personalmente utilizo el csped y
los jugadores con calzado para la primera parte de la misma y
luego, ya descalzos, realizo los gestos tcnicos en la arena.
Por eso, desde ahora, cuando queramos arrancar el cuerpo, a la
maana y en fro, es importante pensar muy bien antes de acelerar...

ON THE WAY TO THE EIGHTH FINAL
The four Argentine teams which participated in the First Phase
of South American Nissan Cup have already confirmed their
games ready to fight for the eighth final.
The first leg matches have finished and the retaliation games
will be played early in Setember. Lans achieved good
results beating 2-0 Estudiantes of La Plata at home. The team
coached by Ramn Cabrero surpassed Diego Simeones
team and Agustn Pelletieri scored the goals taking advan-
tage of a rebound from a penalty that Matiano Andjar saved
from the shots of the midfielder and of Jos Sand.
Arsenal and San Lorenzo played another game in their return
to international tournaments. The game was played at Julio
H. Grondona stadium in Sarand and the visiting team showed
more efficiency during most of the match and made a diffe-
rence with the score of Andrs Silvera. However, during two
minutes of the added time, the defender Carlos Casteglione
equalled and gave relief to Arsenal in view of the retaliation to
be played at Nuevo Gasmetro in Bajo Flores district.
Some remaining teams which are fighting for the eighth final
have already played; and in the case of Chile and Bolivia it
was confirmed that the Chilean Colo Colo and Audax Italiano
will play for the eighth final when they eliminate Real Potos
and Jorge Wilstermann respectively.
By mid Setember the 16 teams which will continue in the
tournament will be known, among them, River Plate and
Boca Juniors and two Argentine teams winners after playing
the games above mentioned.

Primera Fase de la Copa Nissan Sudamericana ya
dieron su presente, en sendos enfrentamientos entre s para
definir a dos octavofinalistas.
Los partidos de ida arrojaron diversos resultados, pensando en
las revanchas que se jugarn los primeros das de septiembre.
Lans fue quien ms beneficiado result luego de vencer, en su
estadio, a Estudiantes de La Plata por 2 a 0 y encarar la vuelta con
los nimos en alza. El equipo conducido por Ramn Cabrero
fue superior al de Diego Simeone y plasm en la red aquella
supremaca con los tantos de Agustn Pelletieri, aprovechando el
rebote del penal que Mariano Andjar le ataj al propio volante
granate, y Jos Sand.
El otro cruce entre clubes argentinos lo protagonizaron Arsenal
y San Lorenzo, en su regreso a los certmenes internacionales. El
partido se jug en el Estadio Julio H. Grondona, en Sarand, y
el equipo visitante mostr mayor aplomo y eficacia durante casi
todo el desarrollo, sacando una diferencia a travs de Andrs
Silvera. Sin embargo, cuando se jugaban dos minutos de tiempo
adicionado, el defensor Carlos Casteglione marc la igualdad,
que le dio tranquilidad al equipo de Arsenal pensando en la
revancha, que se jugar en el Nuevo Gasmetro del Bajo Flores.

Copa de la UEFA de Ftbol Sala
El 18 de agosto dio comienzo la Copa de Futsal de la UEFA, con
la participacin de 22 equipos en la ronda preliminar y 18 en la
ronda de Elite. La primera instancia de juego ser protagonizada
por los clubes de la ronda preliminar, quienes clasificarn a seis
clubes a la prxima fase y se sumarn a la Ronda de Elite. Estos
equipos se dividirn en cuatro grupos de seis clubes cada uno,
cuyo sorteo se realizar el 18 de septiembre y se comenzar con
la disputa del 13 al 21 de octubre. Los ganadores de cada grupo
accedern a la fase final, que se jugar en abril, en una sede que
se determinar luego que se conozca a los cuatro protagonistas.
UEFA CUP OF FUTSAL
Futsal Cup of the UEFA started on 18th August with the
participation of 22 teams in the preliminaries and 18 in the
Elite round. The first instance will be played by the clubs of
the preliminaries which will qualify six clubs for the next phase
and will enter the Elite round. These teams will be divided into
four groups made up by six clubs each; the drawing will take
place on 18th Setember and the games will start from 13th to
21st October. The winners of every group will go to the final
phase to be played in April in a venue which will be known
when the four winners finish the tournament.
Campeonato Internacional de Ftbol Sub-16
Japn obtuvo el 8 Campeonato Internacional de Ftbol Sub-
16 al golear en la final al representante de los Emiratos rabes
Unidos por 4 a 0. En tercera colocacin se ubic el equipo
de Nagoya Grumpus Eight & Toyota High School y cuarto
qued ubicado el representante de los Estados Unidos. Australia
finaliz en la quinta posicin, cerrando la tabla el equipo de
la Repblica de Corea. El certamen, organizado por la firma
Toyota, rene a algunos equipos importantes de jugadores
menores a los 16 aos, quienes durante cuatro jornadas interac-
tan entre s, sumando partidos y empapndose de las siempre
positivas experiencias internacionales.
U-16 INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT
Japan won the 8th U-16 International Football Tournament
beating 4-0 the United Arab Emirates at the final. Nagoya
Grumpus Eight & Toyota High School was placed third
and the team from the USA was fourth. Australia finished
fifth and, closing the Table, the team from Korea Republic.
The tournament organised by Toyota company joins some
outstanding players under 16 years who during four days
face among them playing games and getting experience
in international matches.
Eliminatorias al Mundial Femenino Sub-20
El Seleccionado de mujeres de Cuba fue el ltimo equipo en
clasificar a la Ronda Final Sub-20 de la CONCACAF luego de
vencer a Anguilla en el ltimo partido de las Eliminatorias del
Caribe. El equipo cubano se sum a los ya clasificados Jamaica y
Trinidad y Tobago por la regin del Caribe. A ellos se les suman
los representantes de Canad, Costa Rica, Mxico, Nicaragua y
Estados Unidos para disputar la Ronda Final, en fechas y sedes
por determinarse, del cual tres pases clasificarn a la Copa
Mundial Femenina Sub-20 FIFA Chile 2008.
QUALIFIERS FOR THE U-20 WOMENS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
The National Team of Women of Cuba was the last team to
qualify for the U-20 Final Round of the CONCACAF after
beating Anguilla in the last game of the Qualifiers of the
Caribbean. The Cuban team joined Jamaica and Trinidad
y Tobago already qualified for the Caribbean region. The
remaining teams are Canad, Costa Rica, Mexico, Nicaragua
and the USA which will play the Final Round though the fixture
and venues are not yet decided. Three countries will qualify
for the U-20 Womens World Cup of the FIFA Chile 2008.
Torneos del Pacfico Sur
La Federacin de Ftbol de Samoa (SFSF) ser el centro de
atencin mundial habida cuenta que all se jugar el torneo
OFC Nations Cup y los XIII Juegos del Pacfico Sur. La
sede elegida para tales eventos es el Campo de Deportes J. S.
Blatter en Samoa. El Presidente de la SFSF, Tautulu Roebeck,
est encantado de ser anfitrin de tales eventos: Esto es un gran
honor y nos sentimos apoyados y confiados en que podremos
organizar un hermoso espectculo para todos los equipos, los
medios de comunicacin y admiradores del juego. Roebeck
aclar tambin que Samoa espera con ansias los XIII Juegos del
Pacfico Sur y deseamos que los ms de 5.000 atletas y medios
de comunicacin disfruten la estada en uno de los acontec-
imientos deportivos ms grandes de Oceana.
TOURNAMENTS OF SOUTH PACIFIC
Samoa Football Federation (SFSF) will call the attention of
the world because the OFC Nations Cup tournament and
the XIII Games of the South Pacific will be played there.
The venue will be J.S.Blatter Sports Complex in Samoa.
The President of the SFSF, Mr. Tautulu Roebeck, is pleased
to be the host of the events: It is a great honor and we
feel confident and supported to organise this beautiful
event for all the teams, the mass media and the football
supporters as well. Mr. Roebeck also said that Samoa is
looking forward to the XIII Games of South Pacific and we
wish that the 5.000 athletes and mass media may enjoy
their stay in one of the greatest events of Oceania.
Homenaje a Sudfrica
Con motivo de los festejos de los 50 aos de la Confede-
racin Africana de Ftbol, durante el mes de septiembre
se homenajear a la Asociacin de Sudfrica, quien junto a
Sudn, Etiopa y Egipto fueron las fundadoras de la entidad
rectora del ftbol de ese continente. En ese sentido, del 3 al
11 de septiembre estarn instaladas en Sudfrica las mximas
autoridades de la CAF, quienes llevarn a cabo actividades
protocolares y otras extraordinarias a fin de continuar con los
festejos por su 50 aniversario.
TRIBUTE TO SOUTH AFRICA
On occasion of the celebration of the 50 years of the
African Football Confederation during Setember the South
African Association will enjoy a recognition because
with Sudan, Ethiopia and Egypt were the founders of the
leading football institution in the continent. In this respect,
the top authorities of the CAF will be appointed in South
Africa from 3rd to 11th Setember. They will carry out some
activities of protocol and some others in order to continue
with the celebration of the 50th anniversary.

Brasil se acerca a la Copa Mundial de
la FIFA 2014
La Confederacin Brasilera de Ftbol present su candi-
datura oficial a la Copa Mundial de la FIFA del ao 2014.
El Presidente de la FIFA, Joseph S. Blatter, recibi en nombre
del rgano rector del ftbol mundial el expediente de manos
del Presidente de la CBF y miembro del Comit Ejecutivo de
la FIFA, Ricardo Terra Teixeira, en representacin del comit
de candidatura, formalizando un paso clave en el proceso
de eleccin del anfitrin de esta emblemtica competicin
futbolstica.
Nada trae ms alegra, esperanza y unidad que la Copa del
Mundo de la FIFA, en la que el mundo se une para una autn-
tica celebracin, dijo el Presidente de la FIFA al comentar
con el escritor Paulo Coelho, presente en la ceremonia, lo que
el deporte puede hacer para ayudar a dar pasos hacia la paz
en el mundo.
La delegacin brasilea, que cont tambin con la figura del
ex jugador Romario, promocion su candidatura con una
presentacin de 30 minutos antes de entregar el expediente a
la delegacin de la FIFA, encabezada por el Presidente de la
FIFA y el Secretario General de la FIFA Jerome Valcke.
El siguiente paso en el proceso de designacin del anfitrin de
la Copa Mundial de la FIFA 2014 ser la visita de inspeccin
que la FIFA har a Brasil entre finales de agosto y principios de
septiembre. El martes 29 de octubre, la CBF tendr la oportu-
nidad de presentar su candidatura al Comit Ejecutivo de la
FIFA un da antes que este rgano decida cul ser la nacin
anfitriona de la Copa Mundial de la FIFA 2014, concluyendo
as el proceso de seleccin.
Campo de ftbol playa inaugurado en
la sede Home of FIFA
El Presidente de la FIFA inaugur la cancha de ftbol playa
en la sede Home of FIFA con un saque inicial simblico, que
atestiguaron la actual seleccin campeona, Brasil, y la selec-
cin nacional suiza. Nuestra bella cancha junto a la sede
Home of FIFA pone de relieve nuestro compromiso con este
deporte, que creemos tiene un futuro prometedor, declar
Blatter. En la ceremonia estuvieron presentes funcionarios y
amigos de la familia del ftbol, quienes disfrutaron de una
excelente demostracin de este maravilloso deporte.
Por otro lado, la cercana de la tercera Copa Mundial de

Beach Soccer de la FIFA, que se disputar del 2 al 11
de noviembre en las playas de Copacabana, en Ro de
Janeiro, puso en marcha, en cada Confederacin, el
proceso de eliminatorias para determinar a los prota-
gonistas del evento. Y en ese sentido ya se conoce a 8
de los 16 participantes: Nigeria y Senegal (por frica),
Islas Salomn (Oceana), Estados Unidos y Mxico (por
CONCACAF), Argentina y Uruguay (Sudamrica) y el
anfitrin Brasil, clasificado automticamente.
Esta tercera edicin del evento mximo del Ftbol Playa
se disputar por ltima vez en Brasil, y a partir de 2008
se celebrar en otras sedes, tal como hace la FIFA con
todos sus mundiales. Los candidatos para recibir a los
participantes en las prximas dos ediciones son Ecuador,
Francia, Mauricio, Tailandia, Turqua o Emiratos rabes
Unidos. Dos playas de esos pases sern anfitrionas de los
mundiales de 2008 y 2009.
Juguemos y construyamos: Verdaderos
goles de FIFA y Aldeas Infantiles SOS!
La FIFA y su socio de beneficencia de muchos aos,
Aldeas Infantiles SOS, se enorgullecen en anunciar
su ms reciente campaa conjunta, Juguemos y
Construyamos, el proyecto oficial de beneficencia de la
Copa Mundial Sub-20 que se celebr este ao en Canad.
Los ms de dos millones de dlares recaudados se emplearn
para construir nuevas instalaciones para hurfanos
y nios abandonados y combatir la crisis generada por
las enfermedades endmicas en el sur de frica.
Blatter afirm: Estoy muy contento por el xito fabuloso
de nuestra campaa con Aldeas Infantiles SOS en Canad.
La iniciativa Juguemos y construyamos refleja el espritu de
solidaridad que hace del deporte rey ese bastin de esperanza y
en ella se proyecta el propsito de la FIFA de Desarrollar el juego,
emocionar al mundo y edificar un futuro mejor, por el mundo.
Segn clculos de las Naciones Unidas, en la regin subsahariana
de frica, cada 15 segundos un nio queda hurfano, lo cual
constituye un hecho sin precedentes y hace que surja toda una
generacin de nios que no cuentan con el apoyo paternal.
Los triunfadores netos de la Copa Mundial Sub-20 de la
FIFA son los nios que se beneficiarn de esta campaa, dijo
Richard Pichler, Secretario General de Aldeas Infantiles SOS
Internacional. El pueblo canadiense puede enorgullecerse
de haber participado en esta maravillosa iniciativa que
ofrecer a cientos de nios en el sur de frica una
segunda oportunidad y la esperanza de un futuro mejor.
En los planes de construccin figura una nueva aldea infantil
SOS en Namibia, que contar con una guardera y un programa
para fortalecer el vnculo familiar. Un programa parecido se
llevar a cabo en una aldea infantil en Rustenburg, Sudfrica.
En la pgina www.LetsPlayLetsBuild.ca an se pueden
hacer donativos a Aldeas Infantiles SOS. Este sitio
interactivo permite a individuos, grupos y empresas
crear una pgina personal de donador, en la que pueden
fijar un objetivo financiero y controlar su avance.
La cooperacin entre la FIFA y Aldeas Infantiles
SOS establece un vnculo ideal. El ftbol desempea
un papel muy constructivo en Aldeas Infantiles SOS
mediante su contribucin al desarrollo fsico y social de
la infancia. A travs de l, los nios aprenden a compartir
y a trabajar en grupo, adquieren confianza en s mismos
y fortalecen los lazos de amistad con otros nios.
En el 2007 se conmemora la cooperacin de doce aos
entre Aldeas Infantiles SOS y la FIFA, una colaboracin
que brill el ao pasado gracias a la campaa conjunta
6 aldeas para 2006, organizada en el marco de la Copa
Mundial de la FIFA Alemania 2006. Con esta campaa se
recaud la impresionante suma de 25 millones de dlares,
que posibilitaron la construccin de seis nuevas aldeas SOS
en Brasil, Mxico, Nigeria, Sudfrica, Ucrania y Vietnam.
A la venta!, Copa Mundial de Clubes
de la FIFA Japn 2007
La FIFA anunci la primera fase de ventas de entradas
para la Copa Mundial de Clubes de la FIFA, Japn 2007,
que empez el 1 de septiembre de manera exclusiva en
FIFA.com y se extender hasta el 17 de septiembre.
La 3 Copa Mundial de Clubes de la FIFA se disputar
en las ciudades niponas de Tokio, Toyota y Yokohama
del 7 al 16 de diciembre de 2007. En el torneo partici-
parn el CF Pachuca de Mxico (ganador de la Copa
de Campeones de la CONCACAF), Boca Juniors
de Argentina (ganador de la Copa Libertadores de
la CONMEBOL), el Waitakere United de Nueva
Zelanda (ganador de la Liga-O), el AC Miln de
Italia (ganador de la Liga de Campeones de la UEFA),
as como los ganadores de este ao de la Liga de
Campeones de la AFC, la Liga de Campeones de la
CAF y un club de la liga japonesa, en representacin
de la asociacin anfitriona.
Mundial Sub-17
Al cierre de esta edicin, la Seleccin Argentina Sub-17 haba clasifi-
cado a los octavos de final de la Copa Mundial de la FIFA tras ubicarse
segundo en el Grupo C, luego de empatar sin goles ante Siria, superar
a Honduras por 4 a 1 (goles de Fernando Meza, Nicols Mazzola -2-
y Alexis Machuca) e igualar 1 a 1 (tanto de Carlos Bentez) frente a
Espaa, finalmente lder de la zona.
En octavos de final, el equipo conducido por Miguel ngel Tojo
enfrentaba a Costa Rica con la ilusin de acceder a la siguiente
instancia, donde lo esperaba el vencedor del partido entre Nigeria y
Colombia. Cabe recordar que este certamen es el nico que le falta a
las Selecciones de ftbol de la AFA.
U-17 World Championship
At the close of this edition, the Argentine U-17 National Team had
qualified for the eighth final of the FIFA World Cup placed second on
Group C after a goalless game against Syria, winning 4-1 against
Honduras (goals of Fernando Meza, Nicols Mazzola -2- and Alexis
Machuca) and with a 1-1 draw (goal of Carlos Bentez) against
Spain, finally leader of the zone.
At the eighth final, the team coached by Miguel Angel Tojo faced
Costa Rica with the illusion to reach the following instance where
the winner of the game between Nigeria and Colombia was
waiting for it. Lets remember that this tournament is the only one left
to the football National Teams of the AFA.
Los Murcilagos con medalla de plata
La Seleccin Argentina de Ftbol para ciegos obtuvo la medalla de
plata en los Juegos Parapanamericanos de Ro de Janeiro tras caer en
la final 1 a 0 ante Brasil. Luego del encuentro, el tcnico nacional,
Gonzao Vilario, manifest sentirse muy orgulloso de estos futbo-
listas. Es cierto, no ganaron la final... pero jugaron con mucha convic-
cin ante un rival dursimo que se agranda de local. El balance es
muy positivo porque seguimos ocupando uno de los dos lugares de
relevancia en el mundo, y como el gran objetivo de este ciclo es ganar
la medalla de oro en Beijing, seguramente el ao que viene tendremos
nuestra revancha deportiva.
Argentina, tras obtener el campeonato mundial el ao pasado, y Brasil,
representarn a Sudamrica en la cita olmpica de 2008.

The Bats with the Silver Medal
The Argentine National Team of football for Blind people won the
silver medal at the Pan American Games of Rio de Janeiro after
losing at the final 1-0 against Brazil. After the game, the national
coach Gonzalo Vilario said that he was very proud of these
footballers. It is true, they defeated us at the final... but they played
with great conviction against a hard rival which is powerful at home.
The balance is very positive because we remain in one of the two
more important places in the world; and as our objective in the
current period is to win the gold medal in Beijing, next year we will
surely have our play-off.
Argentina which won the world championship last year, with Brazil
will represent South America at the Olympics 2008.

Donacin para los damnificados en Per
La Asociacin del Ftbol Argentino atendi de manera inmediata el
pedido de Per y se sum a la cruzada de solidaridad con la repblica
incaica, que a mediados de agosto se vio azotada por un demoledor
movimiento ssmico.
La magnitud de la catstrofe hizo que la representacin diplomtica
de aquel pas, a travs de su Embajadora, doctora Judith De la Mata
Fernndez de Puente, solicitara ayuda ante la Casa del ftbol argentino.
Fraternal, tal es su costumbre, la AFA rpidamente dio curso favorable
al pedido y don 100 mil pesos.

Donation for the Victims of Per
The Argentine Football Association responded immediately to the
request of Per and shared the solidarity with this country which by
mid-August suffered a devastating earthquake.
The extent of the disaster forced the diplomatic representative of
Per, Ambassador Dr. Judith De la Mata Fernndez de Puente to ask
help to the Argentine Football House. The AFA, as usual, responded
to the request and donated 100 thousand pesos.

Colecta Nacional Ms por Menos
El Comit Ejecutivo de la Asociacin del Ftbol Argentino autoriz
a que en la jornada del Campeonato de Primera Divisin a disputarse
entre el viernes 7 y el domingo 9 de septiembre prximo, puedan
llevarse a cabo las tareas concernientes a la 38 Edicin de la Colecta
Nacional Ms por Menos.

played from Friday 7 to Sunday 9 next Setember, to carry on the
