CODE OF ETHICS

1. The following code of ethics has been formulated to help the faculty maintain sound and
harmonious relationships with the different educative agents in the academic process, for
the greater welfare of the students and the satisfactory fulfillment of his/her mission to
teach. The provisions of this code shall guide the teacher in his/her dealings with the
various segments of the academe and the community.

1.1. Faculty's Professional Attitude

1.1.1 The teacher should consider his/her profession a noble one; therefore, he/she
should manifest genuine enthusiasm and pride in his/her calling and shall at all
times uphold the honor and prestige of the teaching profession and of Asian
College of Technology International Educational Foundation.

1.1.2 Every teacher must, in the performance of his/her duties and in the exercise of
his/her rights act with justice and fairness, observe honesty and good faith.

1.1.3 In order that a teacher may grow in his/her chosen profession, he/she should
constantly strive to broaden his/her cultural outlook and deepen his/her
professional interest by:

1.1.3.1 a regular program of profitable reading;

1.1.3.2 advanced studies and educational trips;

1.1.3.3 attendance at seminars, lectures and cultural events;

1.1.3.4 participation in group discussions on contemporary issues, methods and
approaches;

1.1.3.5 membership and participation in educational associations;

1.1.3.6 developing an open mind to constructive criticism.

1.1.4 In protecting the honor and integrity of his/her colleagues in the profession, a
teacher should avoid:

a) revealing indiscreetly contents of vital documents or information and
plans of the institutions which the administration has not yet decided to
make public.

b) gossiping uncharitably against other members of the profession.

c) unnecessary remarks or comments against the performance, attitude or
behavior which causes injury to another.

1.2. Teacher-Student Relationship

1.2.1 The teacher should recognize that the interest and welfare of the students are
his/her primary concern. He/she should, therefore, consistently instruct and guide
them in the pursuit of knowledge, ideals and skills. Instill the passion for learning
and the pursuit of excellence in good faith.

1.2.2. Individual differences such as intellectual, physical, social and moral should be
treated accordingly.

1.2.3 In order that fairness may be the sole criterion in evaluating the students work,
the teacher should refuse to accept any gift, favor, service, or other item of
significant value from any student, their parents, group, private business or
government agency that may affect the impartial performance of his/her duties.

1.2.4 Tutoring students for pay or remuneration should be done only in accordance
with officially approved policies.

1.2.5 A teacher should never use his/her profession and take advantage of his/her
students and should not:

1.2.5.1 collect or borrow any amount of money unless the collection is in
accordance with the rules of the school and is approved by the school
administration.

1.2.5.2 delegate functions to the students like taking ones classes, correcting test
papers or any examination outside the classroom without the supervision of
the teacher. The delegation of encoding or computing of grades to students
is absolutely prohibited.

1.2.5.3 engage in an intimate relationship with students.

1.2.6 A teacher should encourage the students to join extra-curricular activities.

1.2.7 Since students are keen observers, the teacher shall maintain dignity in their
presence. He/she should not engage in any activity that would cause injury to the
school, the teaching profession, or damage his/her credibility or dignity as a teacher
and or as a good role model.

1.3. Teacher-Administrative Relationship

1.3.1 In the discharge of school duties, the teacher shall transact business through
proper channels in accordance with the guidelines and policies set by the school.

1.3.2 A teacher should follow the directories issued by the administration or his/her
immediate superior. In case policies or directories issued by the administration
would appear incongruous or undesirable to the teacher, he/she should direct
his/her complaints to his/her immediate superior and if no action is taken, within
fifteen (15) working days, the teacher may file the complaint in writing to the
appropriate committee/proper authority provided in this manual.

1.3.3 A teacher should maintain the confidentiality of privileged communication that
infringes upon anothers right to privacy.

1.4. Teacher-Teacher Relationship

1.4.1 Every teacher must maintain the highest form of integrity in dealing with
colleagues inside or outside the school campus.

1.4.2 A teacher should offer assistance to new member of the faculty and should
acknowledge the competence of his/her colleagues.

1.4.3 A teacher should respect the privacy of other teachers and should avoid gossip
among teachers or any other employee of the school.

1.4.4 A teacher should not discriminate and should treat everyone with fairness
regardless of religion, gender, color of skin or culture. He/she should show due
respect for the opinion of others.

1.4.5 Teachers intimate relationship with fellow teacher should not affect the
professionalism or impartial performance of ones duties and responsibilities.
They should, at all times act with decency and as a good role model whether
outside or inside the school campus or community.


1.4.5 When substituting, a teacher should follow the guidelines and rules of substitution
set by the administration and shall ensure the continuity of learning.

1.5. Teacher-Community Relationship

1.5.1 A teacher should be a role model and maintain good public relations with the
community and shall actively participate in community activities for moral, social,
educational, economic and civic betterment. He/she shall be at all times
accountable to the community for the development of the youth and shall serve
them with outmost responsibility, integrity, loyalty, and efficiency.

1.5.2 A teacher as a member of the community, have the rights and obligation of other
citizens. Therefore, should teach their students to exercise extra prudence in their
conduct or in their speech in any places within or outside the community.

1.5.3 The teacher shall help the school to inform the people in the community about the
performance, accomplishments, programs of the school for the development of the
community and its resources as well as its needs and concerns.

1.6 Violation of the Provisions of the Code of Ethics

1.6.1 A member of the faculty who is found guilty in violation of any of the provision of
this Code of Ethics, whether deliberately or through gross negligence shall be dealt
with in accordance with the Article on Sanctions provided in this Faculty Manual
according to the gravity of the violation.
