Is ambition positive or negative?

Is ambition a positive or negative characteristic? Is is necessary for success?

In many situations, ambition is highly regarded. Job applications often ask for ambitious candidates. Entrepreneurs are
admired for their ambition and energy, and dynamic countries and cities have ambitious plans for growth. Although
ambition has a dark side, this essay will show that we should not be scared of ambition.
Ambition is often associated with negative characteristics such as greed, intolerance, and the drive for power. In the movie
Wall treet, the character !ordon !ecko said that greed was good" there were no limits to how much money you could
make or how big a company could get. Ambition is also often associated with ruthlessness. It can block out human
feelings such as friendship, respect for others, or compassion. #inally, ambition is regarded as being solitary" the
individual wants power at any price, and the reward is often loneliness or isolation.
$owever, these negative associations should not stop us from being ambitious. #irst of all, being ambitious means
understanding that we have value and that we can become better. Without plans, we plan to fail, but ambition helps us
map out paths for success in our personal, family, or professional lives. Ambition also teaches resilience. When problems
occur, ambitious people find a way around them. In addition, being ambitious should make us adaptable and tolerant" by
including other people in our ambitions we all move forward. Ambition does not have to mean a solitary goal" it can be a
vision for a city, the elimination of a disease or the improvement of a community.
In conclusion, ambition is often portrayed negatively, particularly by people who have failed themselves. We should not
let these people get us down. Without ambition, our lives become mechanical and meaningless. We need to celebrate
ambition and en%oy the better present and future it brings.

Are Parents the Best Teachers?
1hroughout my life, I have been lucky enough to have a very good relationship with my parents. 1hey have supported me,
given me necessary criticism, and taught me a great deal about how to live my life. 5arents can be very important teachers
in our lives6 however, they are not always the best teachers.
5arents may be too close to their children emotionally. ometimes they can only see their children through the eyes of a
protector. #or e3ample, they may limit a child7s freedom in the name of safety. A teacher might see a trip to a big city as a
valuable new e3perience. $owever, it might seem too dangerous to a parent.
Another problem is that parents may e3pect their children7s interests to be similar to their own 1hey can7t seem to
separate from their children in their mind. If they love science, they may try to force their child to love science too. 8ut
what if their child7s true love is art, or writing, or car repair?
5arents are usually eager to pass on their values to their children. 8ut should children always believe what their parents
do? 9aybe different generations need different ways of thinking. When children are young, they believe that their parents
are always right. 8ut when they get older, they reali:e there are other views. ometimes parents, especially older ones,
can7t keep up with rapid social or technological changes. A student who has friends of all different races and backgrounds
at school may find that his parents have narrower views. A student who loves computers may find that her parents don7t
really understand or value the digital revolution. ometimes kids have to find their own ways to what they believe in.
1he most important thing to reali:e is that we all have many teachers in our lives. 2ur parents teach us, our teachers teach
us, and our peers teach us. 8ooks and newspapers and television also teach us. All of them are valuable.
