OTHER FIBER ETHERNET xDSL TDM
Performance
Schmid products offer the best
reach within the industry,
due to careful design and long
term xDSL experience. Cus-
tomers state that they use
Schmid xDSL products exclu-
sively, since no other brand
comes even close in terms of
performance and reach to
copper lines.
Manageability
All products are manageable
locally or remotely either using
a Command Line Language
(CLI) or the simple management
protocol (SNMP). The Schmid
Element Management Software
offers a fully graphical user
interface. This software is easy
to use and offers a complete
set of features.
Standard Compliance
The Watson TDM product line is
compliant with all common
standards and regulations (ITU,
ETSI, IEC, IEEE, ROHS, WEEE).

Enterprise Connectivity
The modularity and scalability
of the Watson TDM platform
allow voice and data transmis-
sion at companies. Several
options are available: from E1,
nx64 to multi-service, com-
bining both in one modem. IP/
Ethernet connectivity allows an
aggregated throughput of up to
45.6 Mbps.
Utilities
Watson TDM is successfully
implemented at utilities
(power/electricity, water, gas)
and railway operators.
Point-to-point stand-alone
installations as well as multi-
stage chain installations
using regenerators are imple-
mented worldwide. TDM or
IP/Ethernet options with addi-
tional add-drop features at
each substation adapt perfectly
to this segments needs.
Mobile Operator
Special Features
In many cases, distances to
mobile base stations are
very long, exceeding the limits
of conventional DSL systems.
Watson TDM offers multi-
pair solutions to extend the
reach. Regenerators, up to two
(2-pair) and up to 8 (1-pair),
extend it even further. Optional
1:1 protection switching pro-
vides ultra-high reliable protec-
tion against copper failure.
Mobile Operator
Applications
Watson products are ideally
suited for backhaul of 2G, 2.5G
and 3G mobile base stations
(GSM, UMTS, CDMA, WCDMA).
Multiple E1 delivery in one
product, mainly used for 2.5G
and 3G mobile base stations,
is simplied with Watson TDM.

Network Architecture for Enterprises, Utilities and Railway
System Components Watson TDM
CPE/NTU
Watson TDM modems are avail-
able in an elegant tabletop
housing: E1, nx64 and Ethernet
in various combinations. 2 up
to 8-wire SHDSL/SHDSL.bis
models are available.
Subrack
The Watson subrack ts ideally
for installations in 19-inch
racks. This 12-slot subrack is
suitable for any type of
Watson TDM plug-in card and
can optionally be equipped
with an alarm relay unit
and a SNMP management unit.
Depth ts 30cm ETSI or NEBS
racks.
Minirack
The Watson TDM minirack is
a space-saving 19-inch subrack
that occupies only 1U height
in the rack. It is designed for a
single plug-in card.
Tabletop Housing
The Watson TDM Tabletop
Housing is a space-saving
micro-rack that occupies only
1U height and has a smaller
width than the minirack, just
about the size of a plug-in.
It is designed for a single plug-
in card.
Plug-In Cards (LTU)
A wide variety of plug-in cards
is available. All Watson TDM
cards t into the Watson TDM
subrack, minirack or Tabletop
Housing. E1, nx64 and IP/Eth-
ernet Interfaces in various
combinations and 2 up to 8-wire
SHDLS/SHDSL.bis models
are available.
Regenerator
A two-pair G.SHDSL regenera-
tor is available for Watson TDM
modems. It can either operate
as two independent single-
pair regenerators or as one re-
generator for a two-pair system.
Remote and local powering
are supported. Several hous-
ings in different IP classes for
1 up to 6 regenerator modules
are available.
Network Management
The entire Watson product range
is manageable with WEM-2,
Schmids SNMP-based man-
agement software. WEM-2 is a
client-server based manage-
ment system with a graphical
user interface, optimized for
Watson modems. WEM-2
is available for Microsoft
Windows and Sun Solaris oper-
ating systems and can
run parallel to HP OpenView.
