My Contributions in the 21-century

Some may not take food for granted. Thousands of tons of food ends up in
the landfill by people who dont realize that millions of people around the world
dont have access to nutritious food. Several children end their days hungry and
adults give up eating just to pay rent. These are just two of many examples of how
nearly 842 million people all over the world are affected by malnutrition. In the
21 century, I picture that this world wide issue will change dramatically because
of my contributions. My contributions will be to diminish the amount of people
around the world who struggle from hunger because of living in poverty.
Throughout many generations, people all over the world struggle with
malnutrition and starvation. Not much attention has been focused on trying to
solve this worldwide issue, but one scientist who has is humanitarian and
microbiologist, Dr. Norman Borlaug. Born in Iowa on a farm in 1914, Borlaug
would be known as the creator of the green revolution due to his contributions
in the future to the world.
After receiving his Phd from the University of Minnesota, Borlaug began to
improve the inadequate amount of food in struggling countries like Mexico,
Pakistan, and India. He improved the food supply in these largely populated
countries by ameliorating the supply of wheat. He joined the Wheat Research and
Production Program where he successfully produced a plentiful, short strawed
supply of disease-resistant wheat. He used this new product to supply the hungry
with his innovations around the world. This influenced Mexico to produced six
times more wheat than previously. Mexico changed from an importing country to
an exporter. In addition, Borlaugs new wheat was adopted in the Middle East,
Latin America, and Africa. Pakistan increased their supply of wheat from 4.6
million tons to 8.4 tons and India additionally increased their supply from 12.3
million tons to 20 million tons within 5 years. As a result for his generosity in
helping the world with food shortages, he was awarded with a Noble Peace Prize.
Dr. Norman Borlaug is known as many things such as microbiologist, a
humanitarian, and the son of the green revolution, but nothing compares to the
fact that he is known for saving a billion people from starvation. He is a
significant role model with much influence that can be admired by myself to
begin to reduce famine all around the world.
In order to to reduce the amount of ravenous people around the world, I will
have study and decided how and who will partake to help me complete this
project. To begin this project, my first step would be to plan out with who and
how I will plant new, high-yielding crops and water systems in struggling
countries. This will require studying botany, microbiology, and engineering. I will
then introduce my ideas to the Marin Food Bank, who delivers food to struggling
families and people. If this food bank agrees to help in other countries, we will
travel around the world improving food shortages. There, we will begin planting
new, healthy crops in several largely populated towns. In addition, we will design
central water sources that are accessible to everyone and teach people how to
properly care for these crops. This will help influence others to maintain healthy
crops so their families can become healthy and well-fed. It will also help to
influence those who additionally want to try and stop world hunger.
Imagine a world where not a single child ends their day starving. Imagine
the homeless not having to beg for money and mercy from strangers on the
street. Most importantly, imagine the 842 million people that struggle with
malnutrition today do not have to struggle. But how does this change the world
for the better? Well, it teaches people in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd world countries the
great importance of food. It provides a healthy diet and the abilities to partake in
improving the world and other world issues. As Nelson Mendela had said,
Poverty is not an accident. Like slavery and apartheid, it is man-made and can
be removed by the actions of human beings. This is how I picture the 21 -
century in the future after my contributions. A place with one less world-wide
issue.
