Note: The Fan/Mate rain cover will prevent the fan lid from fully opening.

The resulting small reduction in air flow is a

worthwhile trade off to keep your RV interior safe and dry. No damage will occur to your fan lid or lid opening gear
motor. See back page for further information.

Installation Instructions - Fan/Mate 850-950
If you have questions, contact MaxxAir Vent Corp. @ 1-800-780-9893
Leave your fan open and ventilate your RV,
even when its raining!
New!

Model 850 (White) and
Model 950 (Black) feature
a 20% larger vent area for
better fan performance
Both models have a
protective exhaust screen
and louvers to keep rain out
and tree leaves off your
fan blade
New!

Both models feature hinge
opening mounting brackets
that provide easy access
for cleaning and servicing
of your fan
Step 8
Place the ruler or yardstick even with the rear edge
of the just installed Locking Bracket. Place the second
Locking Bracket so the rear edge is 9 1/8 from the
rear edge of the first Locking Bracket.
Step 9
Mark the location of the two slots in the bracket
onto the sidewall of the fan. Drill a 3/32 hole at the
center of each marked slot location thru the fan side-
wall. Some fan models have a low sidewall height.
You may position the brackets either over or under
the gasket around the top of the fan sidewall.
Step 10
Fasten the Locking Bracket to the fan with two (2)
#6 self-tapping screws provided.
Step 11
Repeat Steps 3 thru 10 on the other side of the roof
fan to install the Hinge Brackets. Start at the rear of
your roof fan.
Step 12
You may wish to use the Optional #6 x 3/4 long
screw to secure the brackets to the RV roof for greater
stability. Simply drill a 3/32 pilot hole into the fan roof
flange, fill the hole with sealer, install the Optional
Screw and cover the head of the screw with sealer.
8
Step 1
Determine which side of the Fan/Mate you wish to be
hinged. Carefully check your RV roof for interference to
determine which side of the Fan/Mate will be hinged.
Step 2
Open the lid of your roof fan slightly to allow access
to the vent side wall.
Step 3
Using a ruler or yardstick, draw a line on the RV roof
at the rear of your roof fan on the side that will have
the Locking Brackets (the non-hinged side).
Step 4
Place one of the Locking Brackets so the rear edge
is 1 1/2 from the line drawn in Step 3. If a small button
is located on the fan sidewall and it interferes with the
Fan/Mate bracket position, you may move the button
slightly to accommodate the Fan/Mate bracket.
Step 5
Mark the location of the two slots in the bracket
onto the sidewall of the fan. Some fan models have
a low sidewall height. You may position the brackets
either over or under the gasket around the top of
the fan sidewall.
Step 6
Drill a 3/32 hole at the center of each marked slot
location thru the fan sidewall.
Step 7
Fasten the Locking Bracket to the fan with two (2) #6
self-tapping screws provided.
NOTE: If you are installing the Fan/Mate over a
MaxxFan Standard Ventilation Fan, simply
remove the plastic plugs from the side walls of
the MaxxFan and secure the brackets into the
pre-drilled holes and then skip to Step 13.
4
Relocate button
if necessary
NOTE: Do not drill more than deep into the
fan wall. This will prevent any possible damage
to internal components of the fan.

Step 13
Open the Hinge Leafs on both Hinge Brackets. Install
a carriage bolt thru the slot in each Hinge Bracket.
Close the leaf of the Hinge Bracket to trap the carriage
bolt. Verify that the square shank of the carriage bolt
fits in the hinge leaf slot to prevent the carriage bolt
from rotating when tightening. The carriage bolt
should be sticking up towards the sky.
Step 14
Place the Fan/Mate down over the two carriage bolts
and the two threaded studs on the Locking brackets
with the Louver end towards the rear of the vehicle.
Step 15
Install the wing nuts over each of the two studs on
the locking brackets, do not fully tighten. If necessary
slide the Fan/Mate cover over towards the hinge brack-
ets to give room for the Wing Nuts to clear the outside
wall of the Fan/Mate.
Step 16
Place a star washer over the carriage bolt on each
hinge bracket. Pull up on the carriage bolt to insure
the carriage bolt is seated securely in the slot of the
hinge and install the -20 nuts and tighten securely.
Step 17
Fully tighten the Wing Nuts by hand. The spring
clip will prevent the Wing Nut from loosening
when traveling.
Congratulations your installation is
complete. To open your Fan/Mate for
cleaning or fan servicing, simply
unscrew the Wing Nuts on the locking
brackets and open your Fan/Mate.
CAUTION: Be Sure to Securely
Re-Install the Wing Nuts on the
Locking Brackets After Opening the
Fan/Mate!
Note: Inspect the Fan/Mate cover and
mounting brackets twice a year to
insure a safe and secure installation is
maintained.

Note: Most thermostatically controlled fan powered roof ventilators are designed to stop when contacting an obstruc-
tion such as a low tree branch, etc. This auto stopping feature is also used for closing the roof vent and is a normal,
designed-in feature. This auto stopping feature allows the installation of our Fan/Mate rain cover. When the vent lid
automatically opens and contacts the inside of the Fan/Mate cover it simply stops opening as it is designed to do.
Then the fan with its own separate motor will start and run automatically.
Even though our Fan/Mate cover prevents the fan lid from fully opening, most RVers agree the small reduction
in air flow is a worthwhile trade off to keep their RV interior safe and dry.
