he Care Bill proposes new rights to assessment for
carers.
o support this3 a free e<learning course and two guides for
those who carry out carers= assessments have been
developed by 5kills for Care in partnership with the Carers
rust.
Carers5 1ssessments: 6etting it right offers advice and
best practice guidance for how to prepare for and conduct
statutory carers= assessments to achieve the best
outcomes for the carer.
Carers and Communities is a guide to understanding why
carers need communities and communities need carers.
1ssessing carer5s needs is a short guide to taking
account of everyone in the family who cares. It e8plores
the benefits of taking a whole family approach to a carers=
assessment and support planning.

+rivate 1ire @perators taking financial advantage of
IoverchargingJ wheelchair/disabled passengers.
In Bradford as well as other cities in the 673 private hire
operators are charging wheelchair passengers double the
actual fare and in some cases charging more for using an
adapted ta8i3 Ita8is which are designed to carry more than
% passengers.J
his is discrimination.
he piece of legislation that protects people in wheelchairs
from being overcharged has not yet come in to play so the
government is allowing these drivers to carry on taking
Kfinancial advantageL of wheelchair users and the disabled.

one<hour employer engagement events in Newcastle.
hey will use these to launch their new toolkit O>ork For
*ll=. his is a film<based resource that promotes
employment and work based learning for people with
learning disabilities and potential employers.
he toolkit shows some of the e8cellent work programmes
already running in the North /ast and gives practical
information and advice for employers3 people with learning
disabilities3 parents and carers.
