The United Nations is a huge organization that deals with world issues that affect

many developing and developed nations. The UN is a beneficial organization and it is

effective at keeping peace and keeping international tensions low.
The UN was created in 194 following !orld !ar "" due to the failure of the
#eague of Nations. The term United Nations was created in 194$ by president
%ranklin & 'oosevelt and () !inston *hurchill. The *harter of the United Nations
was drafted at the UN on "nternational +rganization in ,an %rancisco.%rom -ugust to
+ctober 1944 representatives of the *hina.United /ingdom. United ,tates. and the
U,,' met to elaborate plans at the &umbarton +aks *onference in !ashington &.*.
Those and later talks produced proposals outlining the purposes of the United Nations
organization its membership and organs. as well as arrangements to maintain
international peace and security and international economic and social cooperation.
0overnments and private citizens worldwide discussed and debated these proposals.
-t the 1alta *onference it was agreed that membership would be open to nations that
had 2oined the -llies by 1 )arch 194. 3razil. ,yria and many other countries got
membership by declaring war on either 0ermany or 4apan in the first three months of
194 563riney. -manda7.
The United Nations is an intergovernmental organization in which countries
commit to maintaining international peace and security. making. friendly relations
among nations and promoting social progress. and also better living standards and
human rights. This organization is uni8ue in many reasons.
"t can take action on many issues. but they can also provide aid to its 199 member
countries. The UN is best know for peacekeeping. peacebuilding. humanitarian aid
and conflict prevention. but they focus on more things than 2ust that. -gencies are set
in place that affect peoples lives daily with many issues such as disasters or total
human chaos. This organizations help many nations with money or with some type of
aid to help citizens overcome many issues that they face. The UN serves four main
purposes which are: to help nations work together to overcome poverty and hunger.
make friendly relations between nations. to help a nation reach a developed state. and
to keep peace throughout the world. 6;3odies. <istory. =isits. >mployment. -ddress.

-fter !orld !ar "" the fear that many nations had was the fear of actually going
into another world war. %ollowing the !orld !ar "" the race to space began in which
two of the worlds superpowers began the *old !ar. The *old war started in 194? and
it wasnt e@actly a war it was more of a race between 'ussia and the United ,tates.to
see who was the most dominant and in that process they created thousands of nuclear
weapons. )any nations during the cold war feared that these two nations would create
!orld !ar """. when this happened the UN stepped in and created the treaty called the
+uter ,pace Treaty in which it claims that no nation is allowed to put no nuclear
weapon or any type of weapon of mass destruction on the earths orbit or on the moon.
The treaty also states that the e@ploration of outer space shall be done to benefit all
countries and shall be free for e@ploration and use by all the ,tates. Three world
powers signed the this treaty on 4anuary $?. 19A?. -s of )ay of $B19 1B$ nations
have signed the treaty. but $? of these nations have not yet ratified it. This treaty was
a big step for the UN. because if the treaty would have never been created many
nations would have overpowered one another and it would have started chaos that
would lead to total earth destruction due to countries being able to use weapons of
mass destruction whenever. 56npndC7
The UN tries to promote nations to get along with one another in which they call
making friendly relations with one another. The process of getting some nations to get
along is a challenge. but the UN has managed to keep tensions low with many nations
that donDt get along. )any developing nations such as in the middle east have many
e@tremist groups that want to cause harm and war with many nations. The UN focuses
most on these nations because they know at any point they can start a war that can
lead to the destruction of each of these nations. )any of the resolutions that UN has
made is to resolve many countries are facing. but they try to resolve the countries
issues in the most peaceful ways. The take into account what many nations would
agree to while at the same time not trying to violate a countryDs sovereignty. "n many
of the cases resolution papers have to written all over until each country in the UN
agrees with it. "f nations donEt oblige by international laws and invade other territories
then the UN steps in to put sanctions on the nation to send a message that nations
should not invade each other and should try getting along. )any nations do get along
and do not have much conflict. but many nations in the middle east and many other
developing nations. The UN as well as many other big nations steps in to try to
resolve their conflicts in a way that both will agree on. >ven Though lots of nations
donDt get along the UN has accomplished to keep the tensions between these nations
low. 3y keeping their tensions low it has prevented them for going into a war with
each other.
#astly the UN is organization that deals with many issues. but not one organization
can resolve issues worldwide. To focus on more issues and get more stuff done the
UN has in place Non 0overnmental +rganizations. These organizations are not part of
the government. they help a lot when it comes to giving funds to a nation because they
country can for sure count that the money will go for good use and not be in the hands
of a corrupt government. +ne e@ample in which N0+s have helped a nation would be
in the country of "ran. "ran has a had a huge problem with people from -fghanistan
migrating to their nations. because of the many danger that are in -fghanistan. N0+s
were put in place in "ran and to help those migrants get to stable condition and to
make them realize that migrating to a new nations wonDt help their nationDs economy.
These N0+s have really helped "rans migration problem and helped the country
create more 2obs in their borders. "n many really undeveloped nations N0+s have
helped these nations start building more infrastructure and creating 2obs to prevent
brain drain from happening. The N0+s that the UN puts in place can focus on one
single issue which will benefit the nation that they are helping because they would get
full attention. N0+s are worldwide and have helped nations economically and will
continue to focus on deep issues that the UN canDt get in depth with.
)any people believe that the UN has been very effective and that all these issues
that happen daily throughout the world will never be resolved. "n $BB4. former
ambassador to the UN &ore 0old published a book called Tower of 3abble: <ow the
United Nations <as %ueled 0lobal *haos. The book criticized what it called the
organizationDs moral relativism in the face of genocide and terrorism that occurred
between the moral clarity of its founding period and the present day. There has been
controversy and criticism of the UN organization and its activities since at least the
19Bs.
"n the United ,tates. an early opponent of the UN was the 4ohn 3irch ,ociety which
began a ;get U, out of the UN; campaign in 199. charging that the UNDs aim was to
establish a +ne !orld 0overnment. These allegations towards the UN are completely
wrong. 1es its true the resolving every issue is impossible. but they are not promoting
more violence they are trying to prevent it. The UN has proven itself throughout the
years since it first started. #ike 2ust recently the !<+ succeeded in helping almost
every child get a polo shot in "ndia. )any allegations that people make against the UN
is because they are ignorant and would rather ignore the issues that happen
worldwide. !hile the UN actually acknowledges these problems. No one organization
will ever be perfect. because the amount of issues that happen in the world are
tremendous. -nd thats why worldwide there is N0+Es that deal with many of the
issues the UN funds these N0+Es to help a country with many needs. The doubters of
the UN think that results for world peace will happen immediately. but they donDt truly
know the dangers and the difficulty that the UN deals with to try and make nations get
along. !hy the UN <uman 'ights *ommittee "s "neffective.5;/eyTe@t:7
The reason why many people as well as officials doubt the UN is because they
believe the organization is inefficient in what they do. )any of the resolutions that the
UN tries to pass are turned down by many nations since they canDt come up with an
agreement. Though this is the case many people see that the UN is 2ust causing more
chaos in between nations since they never resolve nothing. "t is hard to find any U.,.
officials today that used to say that the UN is a good for the world. They have been
have lost hope for U.N.Ds almost horrible record of failure in its peacekeeping
missions. &eliver us from evil is a book that was written to show what some call the
true colors of the UN in which the author travels around the world to so to speak be
the reporter of all the failures of the UN. The book even e@plains in many cases of
humanitarian aid the aid that the country receives causes more trouble than peace to
that nation. (;(aving the 'oad to <ell:C7
&espite much criticism that UN receives. thousands of people throughout the world
many of them in developing nations believe that UN has help society in a big way.
The creation of the UN has helped nations come together as one and resolve many of
the big problems that today society faces. &aily peacekeepers throughout the world
risk their life trying to keep violence and promote peace. Never will this organization
be perfect. but throughout the years is has created a bigger impact globally to many in
need. !orld peace is a slow process and it may take the organization decades to
slowly get the message of peace global. but with the help of thousands of
peacekeepers and many N0+Es worldwide its not impossible. no matter what type of
organization or who it is it will always have its critics that will say negative things and
try to bring its reputation down. but if citizens worldwide unite. all the critics the UN
gets will diminish and help countries move forward and help the world become a
better place.5 6;N0+ )onitorC7
