Anavil / Bhatela Brahmins: Anavils are originally Saraswats from Punjab, who migrated to

Gujarat in sixteenth century. The community was split into two sections: (a) Desais or
Mastan (Rice Growers) and (b) Bhatela Anavils who were certainly fighters (Brahma
Kshatra).

from Punjab and Brahma Kshatra division of Saraswat. They got Bhanushali name from
King Bhanushal. Among them there are two divisions viz, Kutchi Bhanushali and Sindi
Bhanushali. The Chief deity of the community is Hinglaj Matha near Karachi. Janayu
(Thread wearing) Ceremony is performed either at the age of 13 or at the time of his
marriage. Agriculture is the major economic source followed by business.
Nagar / Veduvey Brahmins: The elite Brahmins called Nagar Brahmins are sub division of
Saraswat and hailing from Kashmir. They were called Veduvey as time passed. The city
of Vada Nagar was invaded on more than one occasion and Nagars sought refuge in the
nearby areas of Sourashtra and Rajasthan. These Nagars were experts in religion, and
established Shiva belief (Hatakeshwar).
Audich / Rawal Brahmins: Audich in Sanskrit means northerners. They are also called
Audich Sahasra because there were more than 1000 Brahmins. King Mulraj Solanki, the
