Artist statement
Art is my way of life that shapes the creative spark within me. I live my
life appreciating my environment, my surroundings, and the people
that I associate with. I notice little details, such as how beautiful the
sky is, or how much one persons smile carries happiness and beauty.
Simple things call my attention for me to analyze and observe the
smallest details. I am intrigued how my observations reveal peoples
emotions through their world experiences and cultural values. I want
to understand peoples happiness, suferings, hard work, and humble-
ness. Thats why I believe the true art form is emotions, waiting to be
told to the world.
My artistic mission is to tell a story by capturing raw emotions and
presenting that in a compelling art form. Whether its by photography,
graphic design, a beautiful illustration, or even through a short video,
I want to share that story to the community. I want to encourage posi-
tive actions and inspire others to better their community through the
simple notion of art. I want my art to change peoples lives, whether
its only one person or the entire world. Just like how many great indi-
viduals have inspired me, I want to be that very inspiration. My artistic
characteristics are meant to lead and help people. Thats my purpose,
not just an artist, but as my lifes goal.
I am sensitive, observant, intuitive, meticulous, and free-spirited.

Bringing Our Worlds Together
WHAT IS AUTISM?
Autism is known as a complex develop-
mental disability. Experts believe that
Autism presents itself during the first
three years of a person's life.The condi-
tion is the result of a neurological
disorder that has an effect on normal
brain function, affecting development of
the person's communication and social
interaction skills.
People with autism have issues with
non-verbal communication, a wide range
of social interactions, and activities that
include an element of play and/or banter.
Genomic research is beginning to
discover that people with autism spec-
trum disorders probably share genetic
traits with individuals with ADHD
(attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder),
bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or
clinical depression.
FAQ
Q:What are the causes of autism?
A:The exact cause of autism is not known, but research has
pointed to several possible factors, including genetics (heredity);
metabolic or neurological factors, certain types of infections,
and problems occurring at birth.
Q:What signs should you pay most
attention to?
A: Difficulty with social interactions,
trouble with verbal and nonverbal com-
munication, and repetitive behaviors or
narrow, obsessive interests.
Q:Who is affected by autism?
A: Around the world, about 1 out of 1,000 children has autism
and more may show some features of autism. A Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) study shows that up to
1 out of 110 children in the United States has an autism spec-
trum disorder (ASD). It is likely that most cases of autism are
passed down through families. Couples who have one child
with autism are more likely to have a second child with autism
than couples who do not have a child with autism. Boys are 4
to 5 times more likely than girls to have autism.
TYPES OF AUTISM
Asperger Syndrome
It is considered to be on the high functioning end of the
spectrum. Affected children and adults have difficulty with social
interactions and exhibit a restricted range of interests and/or
repetitive behaviors. Motor development may be delayed, leading
to clumsiness or uncoordinated motor movements.
High-functioning
At one end of the ASD spectrum. Signs and
symptoms are less severe than with other
forms of autism. In fact, a person with
high-functioning autism usually has average
or above-average intelligence.
The most severe end of the spectrum, in
which people have little awareness of those
around them. Individuals can have multiple
impairments in virtually all areas of develop-
ment. Many have little or no language skills
and many have some level of mental retar-
dation.
Low-functioning
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
While it is true that autism is not something a person simply
"grows out of," there are many treatments that can help
children learn new skills and overcome a wide variety of
developmental challenges. From free government services to
in-home behavioral therapy and school-based programs,
assistance is available to meet your child's special needs. With
the right treatment plan, and a lot of love and support, your
child can learn, grow, and thrive.

What is a watershed?
Its the land that water fows across or under on its way
to a stream, river, or lake.
How do watersheds work?
The landsacape is made up of many interconnected basins, or watersheds.
Within each watershed, all water runs to the lowest pointa stream, river, or
lake. On its way, water travels over the surface and across the farm felds,
forest land, suburban lawns, and city streets, or its seeps into the soil and
travels as ground water. Large watersheds like the ones for the Mississippi
River, Columbia River, and Chesapeake Bay are made up of many smaller
watersheds across several states.
Are all watersheds the same?
Not at all. Watersheds come in many different shapes and sizes and have
many different features. Watersheds can have hills or mountains or be nearly
fat. They can have farmland, rangeland, small towns, and big cities. Parts of
your watershed may be so rough, rocky, or marshy that theyre suited only for
certain trees, plants, and wildlife.
Your watershed community.
Everyone lives in a watershed. You and everyone in your watershed are part
of the watershed community. The animals, birds, and fsh are, too.
You infuence what happens in your watershed, good or bad, by how you treat
the natural resourcesthe soil, water, air, plants, and animals. What happens
in your small watershed also affects the larger watershed downstream.
There are many things you and your community can do to keep your
watershed healthy and productive. To learn what you can do to take care
of your watershed, call 1-515-289-0325 or your local Natural Resources
Conservation Service offce. Its listed in the telephone book under U.S.
Government, Department of Agriculture. Visit us online at www.nrcs.usda.gov.

What is a Watershed?
We all live in a watershed.
Everything we do in our watershed affects the soil, water,
air, plants, and animals.
Lets work together to keep our watersheds healthy.
Here are some things you can do.
Keep plant residue on the surface of
sloping cropland. This reduces runoff
and prevents sediment, fertilizers, and
pesticides from entering streams, rivers,
lakes, and ponds.
Landscape your yard with plants that need
a minimum of water and fertilizer. Use only
the amount of fertilizers and pesticides
that plants need.
Protect wetlands that serve as natural
buffers against pollution, soil erosion,
and fooding.
