END OF MODULE SELF-EVALUATION

NAME Danielle Muntyan

1. What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have
applied them?

Over the course of this module, I have developed and learnt various skills that have been of great
benefit to the 3 briefs completed. I have become much more of a conceptual thinker due to the
timetabled sessions and group work. This skill has allowed me to create work I am really proud of
conceptually as well as in terms of design. I have become confident in going forward with
controversial topics, design aesthetics, typography and crafting skills that I havent been most
confident with beforehand. I feel as though in comparison to the previous module my crafting skills
have developed considerably, and I am able to now work confidently with packaging nets. I have
become much more hands on in terms of practical design, which has been a refreshing change. For
example I have really experimented with vinyl, die-cutting and laser cutting. As well as practical
work, I have developed photography, web design and bookbinding skills that have complimented the
finished outcomes/proposals and design boards.

I have developed my research skills even more so throughout the course of this module, using both
primary and secondary research where needed to my advantage. By collecting look books from
up-market and luxurious shops in Leeds and Sheffield, this allowed me to engage with staff, ask
questions and gain further knowledge on brand positioning and their current transformation from
printed collateral to digital collateral. Not only did this influence my design work for the module, it
also enhanced the brand identity, target audience and tone of voice, which were imperative to studio
brief 3.

I have practiced logo design throughout the course of this module that has enhanced the finished
briefs and given me confidence in this for future work. Personal and group work allowed for this skill
to develop.

I am now able to give and receive feedback critically/constructively, which I feel has helped both my
peers and I throughout the module. I noticed minor mistakes in my work were picked up on which I
myself had not noticed. When these were edited I then could see a much more professional
outcome and finish. This is something I will pay more attention to in future briefs.

2. What approaches to/methods of design production have you developed and how have they
informed your design development process?

I have learnt the importance of idea, development and mock-ups throughout this module. I feel that
together these steps have allowed each brief to develop and progress naturally through stages
leading to the final outcome. By developing mock-ups at different stages, this has also allowed for
the progress to show. As previously mentioned new skills such as photography and laser cutting
have been put to use throughout the module, and have really pushed the direction of my work. Vinyl
has been a major application used throughout the module that has allowed me to learn different
processes and uses as well as developing much more precise crafting skills.

3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?

I feel as though my time and project management skills have been a major strength, which have
allowed for successful competition of all of the set briefs to my upmost potential.

I have developed my mock-up skills and practical skills such as hands on design and crafting which
have brought design projects together in an aesthetic, conceptual and contextual manner. Use of
vinyl and laser/die-cutting have really emphasised concept and tone of the work completed as well
as allowing for a larger range of printed collateral with a much more professional outcome and finish.

Through studio brief 2, I have developed knowledge on digital interactivity and augmented reality
which has enhanced practical elements such as look books, proposals for websites and e-stores,
allowing for a more comprehensive brand to be designed/proposed. I have also found photography
to be a strength throughout this module, allowing more enhanced, professional visuals that promote
and revive the products being used. I have also found this a major benefit to my design boards
throughout allowing the concept, tone, audience, and visual language to be communicated
efficiently, effectively and succinctly.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these in the future?

I noticed spelling mistakes throughout my work in crits and whilst personally reviewing design
elements. These were corrected as and when noticed and the appropriate piece of work was then
re-designed and re-printed ensuring the best quality and most professional finish.

I feel as though I am quite a solitary worker and prefer to work in my own studio environment,
however I feel I could benefit at times from working with others more regular in order to gain
constant feedback and critique.

5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing
these?

1. Work in the studio more (see above)
2. Experiment with colour more
3. Experiment with different type of stocks
4. Experiment with screen printing

6.How would you grade yourself on the following areas:
(please indicate using an x)

5= excellent, 4 = very good, 3 = good, 2 = average, 1 = poor
1 2 3 4 5
Attendance x
Punctuality x
Motivation x
Commitment x
Quantity of work produced x
Quality of work produced x
Contribution to the group x
The evaluation of your work is an important part of the assessment criteria and represents a
percentage of the overall grade. It is essential that you give yourself enough time to complete your
written evaluation fully and with appropriate depth and level of self-reflection. If you have any questions
relating to the self evaluation process speak to a member of staff as soon as possible.
