The 2013 UnCaged Toy Piano Festival is coming to New York December 12-

14th! With nine artists, nine world premieres and three concerts, we are bringing the toy
piano mayhem back to New York for the second bi-annual festival. Come out and join
the celebration!

DEC 12th: UnCaged Toy Piano Kick-off Party!

Join us in an evening of good company, wild music, drinks and merriment as we kick off the
2013 UnCaged Toy Piano Festival at Pianos! This evening will feature some invented keyboard
instruments, such as Ken Butlers K-Board for lights and spinning wheel, as well as Ranjit
Batnagars Speak and Play performed by Margaret Leng Tan. We will also hear a beautiful set by
the toy instrument singer-songwriter Alexa Dexa, performing toy instruments from her Bedtime
Anthology, as well as Dov Manski on wurlitzer & prophet 08, playing original tunes and
improvisations.

The night will also feature the world premiere of a brand-new piece for toy piano and sampled
toy pianos by 2012 UnCaged winner, Lukas Ligeti (US). Two other premieres from the UnCaged
call for scores include Moon Veil (for toy piano and melodica by Peter Koeszhegy (Germany))
and Three Sketches for (toy piano and soundwheel by Christina Oorebeek (Netherlands)) will be
performed by Tristan McKay. DJed sets by Rob Dietz will be interjected throughout the evening
between sets.


DEC 13th: Special Event:Homemade & Handmade

Anthony Marasco, the 2013 UnCaged Toy Piano winner, is a composer who takes influence from
the aesthetics of todays Digimodernist culture, exploring the relationships between the eccentric
and the every-day, the strict and the indeterminate, the raw and the refined, and the retro and the
contemporary. Come meet the man of the hour and see him perform the night before the premiere
of his new work! Guitarist Matt Greinke joins Anthony to perform duos and improvisations for
homemade instruments and prepared guitar.


DEC 14th: UnCaged Extravaganza

On December 14th, we will finally unveil SEVEN new world premieres and other selections from
the 2013 UnCaged Toy Piano call for scores. You will see and hear toy pianos, an aeolian
harp/plastorgan, dulcimer, bicycle bells, sine wave oscillator, a tea set, chess set, tin cans, a
tricycle and much more! When else are you going to witness a program of music for toy piano
that ranges from wild to pensive, playful to serious, or thats just downright beautiful? Come hear
these new one-of-a-kind pieces performed by Margaret Leng Tan, Kathy Supov, Cory
Smythe and Phyllis Chen. Works by Anthony Marasco (US), Silvia Corda (Italy), Jeff Brown
(US), James Joslin (UK), Monica Pearce (Canada), Jorge Torres Saenz (Mexico), Yvonne
Frickmann (US), Ying-Ann Lin (Taiwan) and Christopher Biggs (US).
