FIRMWARE INSTALLATION NOTICE

TOSHIBA LCD MODELS 42SL417U, 46SL417U and 55SL417U

The installation process is simple; however, please read all of the following instructions and notices prior to installation. This software
upgrade is intended only for use with the TOSHIBA Models indicated above.

Notice (Read Prior to Beginning the Software Upgrade)
The following events may interrupt the upgrade process and result in an inoperative unit.
1) Only unplug the AC Power Cord when instructed during the firmware upgrade procedure.
2) Avoid loss or interruption of power during the firmware upgrade procedure.
3) DO NOT Press the power button on the unit during the firmware upgrade procedure.
If you are experiencing problems or have further questions:
Customers should contact Toshiba Customer Service at 800-631-3811.
Toshiba Authorized Service Providers should contact Toshiba Technical Support Group.

Prior to using this installation procedure, the correct software must be provi ded on a USB drive by Toshiba or
downloaded to a USB dri ve from an Authorized Toshiba website. When downloading from a website, extract
the compressed (zipped) files directl y to a newly formatted USB drive. Do not alter the fil e or folder structures.
(Note: When formatting the USB use the FAT file system)


Use the following procedure to upgrade the televisions firmware:

1) Place the LCD TV receiver in the On condition.

NOTE: Some personal settings and preferences may need adjusted upon completion of this upgrade. Please
note any personal settings or preferences prior to proceeding to the software upgrade in step 2.

2) Insert the USB Flash Dri ve into one of the USB drive ports on side of TV. (See Fig.1)

3) After insertion of the USB Thumb Drive into the USB port, a software upgrade window will be displayed on the
TV screen similar to what is shown in Figure 2.

4) Use the Arrow Right button of the user remote to select Yes in the lower middle area of the software
upgrade window. Press OK to begin the software upgrade.

5) The software upgrade process will begin. During software upgrading, the TV receiver will display a status screen
indicating the software upgrade progress similar to what is shown in Figure 3. (Note: It will take several seconds
for the status bar to begin indicating the progress of the software upgrade) DURING THE SOFTWARE
UPGRADE DO NOT REMOVE POWER TO THE TELEVISION, DO NOT REMOVE THE USB DRIVE, DO NOT
PRESS ANY KEYS ON THE TV OR REMOTE UNTIL THE UPGRADE IS COMPLETED.

Note: An Upgrading Error message will be displ ayed if you attempt to load the units current version or
earli er version of software into the LCD TV. This i s normal . Onl y a newer versions of software may be loaded
into the LCD TV.

6) The software upgrade is complete when the TV receiver displays The software upgrade is complete!
window similar to what is shown in Figure 4.

7) Remove the USB Flash Drive from the USB port. The TV receiver will cycle off and then return to the on
condition.

8) Adjust any personal preferences as noted prior to the software upgrade.

9) The software upgrade procedure is completed.


(After completing the software update the USB drive used for this update should be formatted prior to using with any
other application. Use a PC to format the USB drive prior to using the USB drive with any other application)
