2 FASTRACK: THE MEDICAL WAIT ROOM REDUCER INTRODUCTION With an innovative spin, we have created a solution to the stress and long hours spent in the waiting room for a doctors appointment. Fastrack is an app that enables patients to determine if a doctors visit is in fact necessary, chat online with a real life doctor, schedule an appointment, check in to the appointment and complete a patient questionaire profile. These tasks involve the support of a developed medical centre or hospital, information technology, and intelligent doctors and medical staff. Although it may be combersome to fully encorperate all of these functions into one App, the end result will be extremely benefical to both hospitals and patients alike. 3. BUSINESS SECTION 3.1 Vision To provide a Mobile App that makes medical check-ups convenient and fast. Ensuring first, patients visit to the doctors office is necessary and second, their waiting room experience is hassle free. 3.2 Industry Analysis: Medical Application Industry Industry: Mobile Medical App Industry. Apps used to help patients with their common doctor visit. Force: High/Low: Justification: Buyer power: low This product is new and innovative, therefore buyers do not have many other comparable options. For example, right now, many mobile apps lack adequate protections for security and confidentiality (Conn, 3). Also, if a hospital or individual practice chooses to switch their system
3
3 to be compatable with this app then most patients will feel obligated to use it. Supplier power: High In order to create a successful mobile app it is important to connect with suppliers that can develop the design and technology needed. Even large companies often have to turn to the supply of a developer, Notable companies that have partnered with WorkLight (a technology developer) include Google, RIM, Microsoft and IBM (Courbanou, 6). It seems that, Developers especially those that can develop for multiple platforms stand to be the winners in this burgeoning market (Courbanou, 7). Threat of new entrants: High The industry of Medical Apps is on the uprise. It is quickly developing as new entrants try to create more useful products. Modern Healthcare quotes a reporter saying that there is considerable room for growth in this sector. (Conn, 4)
Threat of substitutes: Low Patients could choose the traditional method of doctors appointments and waiting room but statistics show that, Smartphones have become an indispensable source of healthcare information for many, with 38% of smartphone users saying their device was essential for finding health and medical information (Conn, 5).
4
4 Rivalry among existing competitors: Low Most of the consumer healthcare apps were simple in design and do little more than provide information, according to the IMS report (Conn, 5). This shows that Fastrack will not have much competition with Apps that offer as much as it does.
Overall attractiveness of the industry: Altogether, the attractiveness of the industry out weighs the high threat of new subistitutes and supplier power. Fastrack will be able to over come this through developing a strong network and partnerships before others enter the market as new competition in the future. Also, as technology increases there might be an increase in options of suppliers, lowering their power. 3.3 Customers and Thei r Needs The customers Fastrack intends to target are patients receiving basic health care or attending medical check-up appointments. Patients need assistance in determining if a visit to their doctor is necessary, this involves a diagnosis of their condition and symptoms. The diagnosis must be accurate enough to tell them whether they need an appointment or follow up care instructions with over-the-counter suggestions. Another important patient need is a less stressful, time consuming waiting room experience. Fastrack targets patients who are fed up with the health care process and desire something innovative to improve it. 3.4 Fastrack: Mobile Medical Appl ication Fastrack is designed to fill the target patients exact needs. It is innovatively constructed to intertwine multiple capabilities into one operating system. It provides help for patients who are deciding whether or not to make an appointment, who are trying to save time in the waiting room and who are inquiring to store their medical history information in a secure space. Its software is designed in such a way that it can narrow down exactly what each individual patient is in need of. 3.5 Suppliers and Partners
5
5 Suppliers include doctors and medical staff belonging to medical practices and hospitals. It is important to have information directly from those working in an up-to-date hospital environment. An Information Technology supplier is necessary for the creation and support of the systems within Fastrack. The app needs up to date medical information in order to accurately diagnose their patients. Fastrack can receive this from a medical research centre supplier or from partnering with an established hospital. This partnership would be beneficial for both parties because hospitals must support the app before it is usable by patients and the app supports the hospitals waiting room process. Without hospitals supporting the application there would be no doctors available for instant messaging, or waiting rooms to check in to. 3.6 Strategy: Focused Low Cost Fastrack is for a narrow audience at a reasonable price. There is a wide spectrum of mobile medical applications in the industry, however, they fall into various catagories. One of the huge differences is the customers in which the app is designed for. Some apps are created for doctors while others are created for patients. Fastrack is created for a small portion of the medical population, the average person needing basic medical care. It is not intended for researchers, or those seeking care for complex illnesses or diseases. Fastrack would be encouraged to all patients in a certain practice or hospital attending healthcare appointments and therefore offered at an inexpensive price. The overall strategy is therefore Focused, Low cost. 3.7 Value Chain Activity: Technology Management The most important value chain activity for this business is Technology management. The Fastrack is made from innovative technology and will need to be supported by Information Systems throughout its lifetime. It involves various systems to work together seemlessly, as well as the ensured security of a data storage network. 3.8 Business Processes
6
6 3.8.1. DI AGNOSIS PROCESS This process allows the patient to determine if a doctors visit is necessary. By eliminating unnecessary visits the waiting room will be less crowded and patients will not have to go through as much hassle when they are already not feeling well. It will also help keep common cold germs out of waiting rooms.

3.10. 1. PATIENT ANALYSI S DATA SYSTEM Data and information are gathered and analyzed through a series of questions from the system to the patient. After processing through the data the system provides an output to help support the patient in deciding whether or not they need a medical appointment. 3.10. 2. CONTACT CENTRE INSTANT MESSAGING SYSTEM This system directly involves customer service. Its purpose is to give the patient extra support or health analysis through an instant messaging program. It is catagorized in Customer Relationship Management Systems. 3.10. 3. PAYMENT PROCESSING SYSTEM- A transactional system is needed to support the function of payment online during the time of check in. This enables the patient to feel secure and at ease paying through a protected online portal. 3.10. 4 DOCUMENT EXCHANGE SYSTEM- In order to successfully check in the patient must send notifaction of their arrival and their appointment confirmation number. This is supported through collaboration through the patient and the hospital
