DEHYDRATION
INTRODUCTION
In most cases, all diseases and hospitalisations can be linked to dehydration. Thousands of
people die annualy because of this problem. However it is 100% preventable simply by
monitoring and understanding your bodys personal daily water intake requirements. We
have developed a waterbottle that measures a persons water intake and monitors their
dehydration levels throught the day.
3. BUSINESS SECTION
3.1 Vision
To imporve fatal health problems caused by dehydration and improve hospital admission
rates for dehydration related incidents. We believe our vision will lead the world into a
healthier era.
3.2 Industry Analysis:
Industry: Hydration Monitoring Devices industry
This industry is including all devices such as watches, apps, waterbottles and other
hydration monitoring devices.
Force: High/Low: Justification:
Buyer power: High Buyer power for consumers is high. This is
because with the wide range of different types of
hydration monitoring devices and the different
brands within thoes types of devices companys
such as BluFit and HydraCoach, a consumer has a
large choice of these devices rather than only
having one choice.

3

3
Supplier power: low Supplier power is low. This is the case because
these organisations assemble their own products
and there is a large market of suppliers for raw
materials. This means that the organisations have
a large choice between suppliers rather than no
choice.
Threat of new entrants: Low Threat of new entrance is low because the
industry is large. There are many brands and
companies competing. With so many in the
industry it would be hard for a new company to
rise in the ranks as there are so many
compeditors within the industry.
Threat of substitutes: High Already in the industry there are many different
forms of Dehydration Measuring devices. Its a
wide range of apps, waterbottles, watches and
much more. Consumers have a wide range of
products to choose from. While the idea of
tracking hydration isnt new the BluFit water
bottle is poised to take the same concept to
uncharted waters. (Amy Schlinger 2013) Many
companys are taking this leap in hopes that their
competative advantage will take them further
than the substitutes and threats already in place.
Rivalry among existing
competitors:
High Because of the wide range of substitutes and the
extensive ammount of companys in the industry
there is a large rivalry as the competition is
getting larger as more and more competitors

enter the industry.
Overall attractiveness of the industry: With the large existing Rivalry and the extensive
substitute products that threaten all companys, this industry is unnatractive. All companys
will be searching for a competative advantage over each other.

3.3 Customers and Thei r Needs
As mentioned before, In most cases all diseases and hospitalisations are linked to
dehydration. Everyone is affected by dehydration, everywhere. However it is more common
with people who have active lifestyles or are older and have higher health maintinence
needs. almost 7 percent of all admissions had dehydration as 1 of 5 diagnoses and almost 2
percent of all hospitalizations had dehydration as the primary diagnosis. (unspecified,
http://www.qualitymeasures.ahrq.gov/content.aspx?id=38564). Dehydration is mostly
caused by the lack of knowledge and awarness of the dangers dehydration can lead to. By
supplying the world with the knowledge of Dehydration and a product that personaly
measures and keeps up to date with every user, there will be a rapid decrease
hospitalisation rates.
3.4 The Product and Service
Unlike HydraCoach where their waterbottle will monitor the cumulative volume of fluid
consumed (http://www.hydracoach.com/product/) Our product works through a sensor on
the cap that measures the wetness of the tounge when it comes into contact. The sensor
measures the current hydration levels of the user. The data from the sensor travels to a
processor where it is converted into information that is displayed directly on a screen built
into the bottle. Along with this, the information processed is also being stored so a user can
access past information to track their progress and improvement. The sensor on the cap
tracks fluctuating changes in body hydration. Unlike HydraCoach where it measures the
water flowed through the bottle.
3.5 Suppliers and Partners

5

5
Suppliers that would be perfect for our product are Aotea Plastics Industries ltd for the
plastic bottles. They focus on customer requirements by providing cost effective advice,
quality manufacturing processes, support services, plus delivery times to suit you (Aotea
Plastics Industries Ltd - The specialist plastics moulders. 2014). And HIS Global Spec to
manufacture the sensor technology, they aim to design, develop, and manufacture digital
data recording technology (HIS Global Spec). Potential partners could be our existing
competitors. Blufit and HydraCoach. Blufit is a smaller organisation, they do not have the
funding to enter the industry but they do have a potential comedative advatange with their
waterflow sensors and bluetooth chips (Amy Schlinger 2013). HydraCoach is a leading
company in the industry which can be a benefit to us. However, they dont have technology
that seperates their data from a smartphone, limiting their market.
3.6 Strategy:
We aim to aid all people in need of hydration monitoring devices due to any needs. A low to
moderate income earner as we want full influence on hospitalisation rates. With a broad
market and a low cost strategy our strategy is Cost leadership
The overall strategy is therefore Cost Leadership
3.7 Value Chain Activity:
The most important value chain activity for this business is Technology Development(and
R&D)
Our bottle works straight with raw data and has to constantly turn that data into
information. The bottles need to be able to handel all of the data coming in so that the
bottles dont malfunction. Technology development also increases the competative
advantage.

3.8 Business Processes
3.8.1. SUPPLIER SELECTION PROCESS
Supplier selection is important because as a business you want the highest quality supplier.
And the only way to make sure of that it to have a process in place on how an organisation
trials, accepts or declines a supplier. An organisation must consider their vision when
choosing a supplier as some suppliers may not operate ethically or arent producing their
goods at high quality levels. They must choose a supplier sample the product and test it
before they make their decision.

7

7

3.8.2. ORDER PROCESS
Taking and completing an order is crucial for a healthy customer and organisation
relationship. An organisation must make sure only quality goods are being sent through to
shipment. This process is as follows; receive order and payment, manufacture, test and ship.

3.9 Functionalities
3.9.1. SUPPLIER SELECTION PROCESS
Decide on materials needed from supplier
Test the samples provided by supplier
3.9.2. ORDER PROCESS
Process orders and receive payments
Testing (imporve or repair)
3.10 Systems

3.10. 1. ENTERPRI SE RESOURSE PLANNING-
This system is used to support all business operations. It links Finance and Accounting,
Human Resources, Sales and Marketing and Production and Manufacturing in the process of
a transaction. It involves ordering raw materials from suppliers, Procuding the product and
testing the product to ensure quality control before being shipped to a customer.
3.10. 2. CUSTOMER RELATIONSHI P MANAGEMENT-
This is the system that links the customer and the organisation, it supports and protects
their personal information. The aim of CRM is to increase customer loyalty and activity
within the organisation. CRM has a function that sorts all customers into an FRM chart
where customers are split into groups that an organisation can look at and make decisions
upon the frequency of each group. This is important as it shows a business how many
customers buy frequently and how many customers do they need to encourage to buy
more.
3.10. 3. TRANSACTION PROCESSI NG SYSTEM-
The transaction processing system is all about what happens when a customer
sends an inquiry up until they receive the product. It i s the overall vi ew of the
order process. This system shows the organisation links wi th order input,
inventory, manufacturing, shipping and transporting. It is hi ghly important that
the organisation collects data for future reference or statistical needs.

CONCLUSION
Our drink bottle has the capability of improving overall world health by realising our vision
and improve fatal health problems caused by dehydration and improve hospital admission
rates for dehydration related incidents. With our advanced sensor technology we can
accuratley and effeicently calculate a persons hydration levels and report to them
accordingly. Its time for a healthier era. A hydrated era.
