Currently children look up words they dont recognise via the traditional dictionary. The current method doesnt appeal to children as they consider to be a chore. Fiction Diction is a fun educational mobile application which defines words in a manner that is designed to suit each year level. Fiction Diction contains an innovative feature of illustrations to aid understanding. We expext the Fiction Diction system to be a fun and exciting way to motivate children to learn and understand new words. 3. BUSINESS SECTION 3.1 Vision To educate and empower our futures leaders through incorporating the best technonlgy to address our generations grand challenge. 3.2 Industry Analysis: Educational mobile appl ication Industry Industry: Educatiional mobile application Industry. Buyers to be Parents (for thieir children) Force: High/Low: Justification: Buyer power: High Due to the wide range and availability of educational mobile applications across the industry, customers (parents andchildrem) have a lot of bargaining power. (Deak Takahashi, 2009) Supplier power: Low Supplier Power is low. There is a numerous amount of mobile application providers supplying

3 ecucational applicatios. For this reaosn suppliers do not have a lot of bargaining power. (New Zealand Hearald, 2013) Threat of new entrants: High Threat of new entrants is high. There are approximately 168 companies that specilaise in producing advanced softwares in New Zeland alone. This shows it is easy for competitors to enter the market for educational mobile applications. (New Zeland search, 2014). Threat of substitutes: High There are other alternatives to Fiction Diction. Buyerrs can continue to use the original way of comrehedning the meaning of words which is by using a dictionary, or through the use of other edcuational mobile applications. Thus threat of subsitutes is high. Rivalry among existing competitors: High With the educational mobile application industry growing rapidly over the years (Dean Takahashi, 2009), there is fierce competition between competitors to provide the best and most useful educational app. Thus rivalry among existing competitors is high. Overall attractiveness of the industry: There are high barriers to enter the mobile appication industry icluding fierce rivalry among existing competitirs and high buyer power. For these reasons it appears that this is a fairly unattractive industry to enter in. 3.3 Customers and Thei r Needs
4
4 The target customers for our educational application is parents and of course their children. Parents need to seek for a creative educational tool that will help their children understand complex words used in texts. Research shows that a third of primary aged kids are failing the writing standards set by the Government as they dont read enough as the are confused by words used in texts (New Zealand Herald, 2014). The current way that children look up words they dont understand is via the use of a traditional dictionary. This method doesnt appeal to children, as it requires skimming through multiple pages and even then not understanding the word as its defined in a complex manner.
This shows that parents need a tool that encourages their children to look up words they dont understand, rather than it being a chore in order to expand their vocabulary (New Zealand Herald, 2012). Expanding childrens vocabulary will increase their chances drastically of passing the writing standards set by the government. In order to make learning new words fun so that children are motivated to learn, other functionalities including illustrations have been added along with the definition of a word to our application. This will be beneficial for childrens understanding and learning as illustrations are just as important as the definition, and both work together to tell the story hence ensure the child learns the word.
3.4 The Product and Service The solution selected is an educational mobile application called Fiction Diction. It contains an innovative feature to aid understanding, this feature being illustrations alongside with the definitions of words. Fiction Dictions satisfies the need of parents and children needing a tool to make learning new words fun. Fiction Diction will help children understand complex words used in texts, as this fun application will ensure children bother to look up words they dont understand. Users of Fiction Diction can select which year level they are so that the word is defined to suit each year level. For example year six definitions will obviously be more trivial than that of year ones.

5 Partners for our company will be those who provide our application to the market including Apple App Store and Google Play.

Fiction Diction is an inexpensive application that is sold below the average industry price. This is because the system doesnt have high costs hence we are able to pass it onto costumers with a cheap price. The overall strategy is therefore Focused low cost strategy.
