Area Directors Message Teachers role versus students role Students cant be taught they can only be helped to learn. In a stu- dent-centered classroom, our role is to help and encourage students to develop their skills, but without relinquishing our more traditonal role as a source of informaton, advice, and knowledge. In a student-centered classroom, the teacher and students are a team working together. To- gether our role is to make sure everyone benefts from the lesson, sup- portng one another. Were responsible for helping students work independently, monitoring them while theyre working together, and giving them feedback afer- ward. In a whole-class actvity, students and the teacher interact, and students accept the authority of the teacher as their manager. When working together, students will be responsible for their own behavior and learning while the teacher walks around the classroom monitoring.

Weekly Schedule Principals,
Leadership matters, what leaders think, say and do pro- foundly affects organizational performance. Leaders thoughts and actions shape the culture of their organiza- tions and set the direction and pace for professional learn- ing and teamwork ( Leading for Results). We are quickly approaching the end of the first six weeks grading period which provides an excellent opportunity for us to reflect upon our leadership practices. What did you do differently this year? What will you do differently during the next six weeks? How are you monitoring teacher performance and student achievement? What changes did you make as a re- sult of your classroom observations and feed-back confer- ences? Is your campus on track for making significant gains in student achievement? Challenge yourself to get in classrooms daily and look for the following things: *Objectives *Objectives matching student learning *Student-Centered Activities Keep a log of what you see and share it with your staff as a whole.
Regards,
Janet McDade
