Hello Hans Erik. There is certainly money to save on used imports, but
there are also many traps to go in. This I could probably written a book
about.
But to take it krone first: Yeah, strong dollar makes cars from many other
countries have become "cheaper" in recent months. This turns all the time
and it's hard to hit optimally.
How much you save varies very much from model to model. I suggest you
start with picking out which car (or preferably several) you want. So to
obtain an overview of what the prices are here in Norway (there you will
find out best by checking multiple sites). So go running to find out what
you have to pay abroad.
www.mobile.de is by far the best site for this. Here you will find an
incredible number of cars. This gives you an idea of how much you can
save. But beware: Unless you buy from a merkeforhandler, you must of
course take your precautions before buying. I absolutely do not
recommend buying used car abroad unseen.
The cars it pays to import most often have low CO2 emissions and not too
big motor. Also, it is wise to buy a car that has been "business", then you
get a deduction for the VAT, it means a lot in the accounts. Good luck with
your project!
