The process of certifying the integrated management system
for quality, safety at work and occupational health and
environment protection has been successfully completed.
The proof for the implementation of ISO 9001, ISO14001 and
OHSAS18001 standards requirements is now represented by
the three certificates issued further to several audit procedures
performed in December 2011 and May 2012 by Lloyds Register
Quality Assurance.
The handing-over ceremony of these certificates took place on
7-th of June 2012. The event has been attended by the shipyards
low, middle and top management representatives. Mister Petris or
Jechel Management Systems Operations Manager of Lloyds
Register Romania, guest of honor, handed over personally the
certificates to the managing director of Damen Shipyards Galati,
Mr. Flemming Sorensen and congratulated the management
team for such achievement.
In terms of quality, the cooperation between Lloyds Register
and our company started in 1997 being, from the beginning, a
real success. Mister Petris or Jechel remembered with pleasure
that, 15 years ago, when the shipyard undertook the first steps to
obtain the quality system certification, he was part of the audit
team which assessed our shipyard for the first time.
Damen Shipyards Galati purpose is to focus attention on clients,
on health and safety at work and environment protection. LRQAs
professionalism represents a guarantee for achieving this goal.
Also, certification of the integrated management system stands
as a business card of our company both at national level and
especially at international level, enhancing the clients trust in
the quality of our products.

CERTIFICATION OF THE INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Procesul de certificare a sistemului de management integrat al
calitii, securitii i sntii ocupaionale i protecia mediului,
s-a finalizat cu succes.
Dovada implementrii cerinelor standardelor ISO 9001, ISO14001 i
OHSAS18001, o reprezint cele trei certificate emise n urma mai multor
proceduri de audit efectuate n luna decembrie 2011 i n luna mai 2012
de ctre Lloyds Register Quality Assurance.
Ceremonia de nmnare a certificatelor a avut loc n data de 7 iunie 2012.
La eveniment au fost invitai reprezentanii managementului de nivel
superior, mediu i inferior din cadrul antierului. Domnul Petrior Jechel
Management Systems Operations Manager la Lloyds Register Romnia,
oaspetele de onoare, a nmnat personal certificatele directorului general
al antierului Naval Damen Galai, domnul Flemming Sorensen i a
felicitat conducerea pentru aceast realizare.
CERTIFICAREA SISTEMULUI DE MANAGEMENT INTEGRAT
n domeniul calitii, colaborarea dintre Lloyds Register i societatea
noastr a nceput n anul 1997 i a fost, nc de la debut, un real succes.
Domnul Petrior Jechel i-a amintit cu plcere de faptul c, n urm cu
15 ani, cnd antierul parcurgea paii iniiali pentru obinerea certificrii
sistemului calitii, a fcut parte din echipa de audit care a evaluat pentru
prima dat antierul.
Obiectivul antierului Naval Damen Galai este acela a focaliza atenia
asupra clientului, a sntaii i securitii n munc dar i asupra proteciei
mediului nconjurtor. Profesionalismul organismului de certificare LRQA
reprezint o garanie pentru realizarea la cel mai nalt nivel a acestui
deziderat.
De asemenea, certificarea sistemului de management integrat este ca o
carte de vizit a societii noastre - att pe plan naional, dar mai ales
internaional, sporind ncrederea clienilor n calitatea produselor realizate.

A DIFFERENT WEEK IN SCHOOL
EDITION 2012
The Trade Union organizes the fishing contest on a yearly basis,
with support from Damen Galati administration.
Due to the great interest shown by our employees regarding
participation in this contest, the organizers had to include a
pre-selection stage in the program.
From a total of 180 competitors, subject to the amount of caught
fish, 25 winners have been selected during the first stage. They
participated in the final stage of the competition which was held
in a specially arranged location on 21-st of June.
Weather was in favor of the organizers and competitors who
prepared their best specific accessories or the most sophisticated
fishing lures intended to fool the biggest fish, carefully hidden
below the water surface.
The contest began at 6 oclock, after a short training that drew
the attention on any potential risk. Then, people turned to work:
competitors with fishing and organizers with setting fire to the
grills.
At 11 oclock, the competitors gathered to the scale which
decided the final standing. The most hardworking and lucky
fishermen are:
n 1st Simion Costel, hull division I Welding 4,87 kg of fish;
n 2nd Moise Daniel, hull division I Assembly 4,25 kg of fish;
n 3rd Clapa Dumitru, hull division I Welding 4 kg of fish.
The contest winners were rewarded with fishing tools (rods and
reels) while the rest of participants received fishing poles.
Finally, the competitors enjoyed a portion of grilled steak and
sausages and indulged themselves with beer, accompanying, of
course, their friendly chats with fishing stories, more or less true!...

EDITIA 2012
Concursul de pescuit sportiv este organizat anual de ctre sindicat, cu
sprijinul conducerii SN Damen Galai.
Datorit interesului mare manifestat de ctre salariaii notri n ceea ce
privete participarea la acest concurs, organizatorii au fost nevoii s
includ n program o etap de preselecie.
Dintr-un total de 180 de concureni, n funcie de cantitatea de pete
pescuit, au fost selectai n prima etap, 25 de ctigtori. Acetia au
participat la etapa final a concursului care s-a desfurat ntr-un loc
special amenajat, n data de 21 iunie.
Vremea a inut cu organizatorii i concurenii care i-au pregtit cele mai
bune accesorii specifice pescuitului sau cea mai sofisticat nad cu care
s pcleasc cel mai mare pete, aflat sub luciul apei.
Concursul a nceput la ora 6, dup un scurt instructaj prin care s-a atras
atenia asupra potenialelor riscuri. Apoi, lumea s-a apucat de treab:
concurenii de pescuit iar organizatorii au dat foc la grtar. La ora 11,
concurenii s-au prezentat la cntarul care a decis clasamentul final.
Cei mai harnici i norocoi pescari sunt:
n Locul 1 Simion Costel, secia I Sudura cu 4,87 kg. pete;
n Locul 2 Moise Daniel, secia I Asamblat cu 4,25 kg. pete;
n Locul 3 Clap Dumitru, secia I Sudura cu 4 kg. pete.

Ctigtorii concursului au fost recompensai cu scule de pescuit (lansete
i mulinete), iar restul participanilor au primit cte un b de pescuit.
La final, concurenii au servit cte o porie de carne i crnai, pregtite
la grtar i i-au potolit setea cu bere, tapetnd discuiile amicale cu
ntmplri pescreti, care mai de care mai adevrate!...

Perioada 2 6 aprilie 2012 a fost dedicat activitilor
educative extracurriculare i extracolare, n cadrul
programului numit coala altfel. Acest program le-a oferit
colarilor i precolarilor lecii inedite i atractive. Ei nu au
avut parte numai de prezentri teoretice, ca n slile de
clas, ci au devenit prtai la activiti de om n toat firea.
antierul Naval Damen Galai a participat la acest program,
fiind ca o carte deschis pentru elevii unei clase a IV-a
de la coala Gimnazial nr. 28 i ai unei clase a VIII-a de
la coala Gimnazial nr. 42, Galai.
Elevii au fost nsoii de cadre didactice dar i de civa
dintre colegii notri. Rolul acestora din urm a fost de a
rspunde numeroaselor ntrebri i, n acelai timp, de a
direciona interesul vizitatorilor ctre domeniul naval. La
secia IA, unde erau prile 2, 3 i 4 din JSS, musafirii au
fost extrem de impresionai de mrimea i prestana
construciilor. Tancul petrolier de 8000 mc care tocmai s-a
lansat a reprezentat, de asemenea, un important punct de
atracie.
Toate aceste experiene noi, informaii complexe i surprize
vizuale au smuls strigte de uimire i concluzii inedite
precum aceea c realitatea bate filmul!
La final, musafirii au primit cu plcere, ca pe nite amintiri
dragi, pixuri i brri cu sigla antierului dovezi ale unei
vizite datorit creia, poate, peste ani, vor deveni navaliti
de frunte.

Once for the little children, with plush toys.
They took their role seriously and, at night,
watch over the sweet sleep of each tiny tot.
It happened many times that the plush toys

evil thoughts!
In other wonderful day, the Tales Palaces
doors opened. But only those familiar with
tales know the Palace location: at the Musical

A WONDERFUL STORY AT DAMEN GALATI AGAIN ON THE PODIUM
The National Conference Welding 2012 was
held during 25 27-th of April 2012 in Cluj
Napoca, the event being organized annually
by the Romanian Welding Association.
The conference also included the national
stage of the traditional contest Young
welders which has been attended by the most
skilled young welders representing companies
from all over the country. Our company
participated with two welders who obtained
excellent results:
n Decianu Marcel Hull Division IA
MMA I-st position
n Poalelungi Andreea Hull Division IA
MAG II-nd position
Unlike previous editions of this competition,
as they deserved to meet their favourite
princesses and other popular characters, full
of fun!
And they had such fun! The Tales Palace hasnt
seen such joy for long time ago! Of course,
there were some grumpy kids, just like the
Snow Whites dwarf, but we managed to
soften them up chocolate eggs and juice.
On the day the ball was held, the most
beautiful and talented youngsters in the
Kingdom gathered together. Two hours passed
like two days and two nights, full of dance,
music and joy. The big cake, divided in hundred
of pieces and the sweet and flavoured drinks,
spiced the big event. Cinderella was also
present she won the karaoke contest. We
managed to give her an award for her
beautiful voice and special beauty, then
suddenly, she was gone! She must have been
too busy at home till the return of her sisters
who, of course, were at the ball!
Summer, the most beautiful of fairies, also
showed up at Divino Club, at the evening
ball. She enjoyed the atmosphere so much
that she decided to stay there for several
months. We saw her in the smiles of those
having fun, dancing and singing.
And so our children will live happily ever after,
with the memory of so wonderful days. They
are our most precious gifts, our pride and,
after these festivities, our hope in a fairytale-
like future!

this year an important new element occurred.
Thus, instead of two categories, juniors (up to
25 years of age) and seniors (up to 35 years
of age), the new regulation requires the
maximum age of 23. This modification aims
to comply with the European regulation so
as, beginning with 2013, the winners of the
national stage will be able to participate to
the European contest scheduled to take place
next year in Essen, Germany.
Even in these conditions, Damen Shipyards
Galati was the company with best results
obtained at this year contest, respectively
one I-st position and one II-nd position. Thats
the proof that youth is not an obstacle in the
way of competence, skillfulness and passion.

n perioada 25 27 aprilie 2012, la Cluj Napoca,
s-a desfurat Conferina Naional Sudura 2012,
organizat anual de Asociaia de Sudur din
Romnia.
n cadrul conferinei a avut loc i faza naional a
concursului Tineretul sudeaz la care au participat
cei mai pricepui tineri sudori reprezentnd uniti
economice din toat ara. Din partea societii
noastre au participat doi sudori care ne-au
reprezentat cu cinste prin rezultatele obinute:
n Decianu Marcel, Sectia IA MMA - Locul I
n Poalelungi Andreea, Sectia IA MAG - Locul II
Spre deosebire de ediiile precedente ale acestui
concurs, n acest an a intervenit o noutate
Dragii mei, povestea spune c ziua de 1 iunie
era att de important n mprie, nct a fost
srbtorit de trei ori.
O dat, pentru cei foarte mici, cu jucrii din plu.
Acestea i-au luat rolul n serios i, noaptea,
vegheaz somnul dulce al fiecrui prichindel. De
multe ori s-a ntmplat s-i goneasc pe monstruleii
din vis i s le pun n vedere s nu mai calce
niciodat pe-acolo, cu gnduri rele!
n alt zi minunat, s-au deschis porile Palatului
Povetilor. Numai cunosctorii tiu c adresa lui
este la Teatrul Muzical Nae Leonard Galai. Au
aflat acest secret toi copiii care iubesc basmele
i meritau s-i cunoasc prinesele preferate dar
i personaje populare, pline de haz!
i ce s-au mai distrat! N-a mai fost demult atta
veselie n Palatul Povetilor! Desigur, mai era i
cte un suprcios, ca piticul Albei ca Zpada, dar
l-am ndulcit noi, cu un ou de ciocolat i un suc.
n ziua n care s-a desfurat balul, s-au adunat

cei mai frumoi i talentai tineri din mprie. Au
trecut dou ore ca dou zile i dou nopi, pline
de dans, muzic i veselie. Tortul, mprit n sute
de buci, sucurile dulci i aromate, au dat savoare
marelui eveniment. Cenureasa a fost i ea
pe-acolo a ctigat concursul de karaoke. Am
reuit s-i dm un premiu pentru vocea deosebit
i frumuseea ei special, apoi, gata! A disprut!
Probabil c avea mult treab acas pn s
vin surorile ei care, desigur, erau la bal!
Vara, cea mai frumoas dintre zne, i-a facut i
ea intrarea la Divino n seara balului. I-a plcut att
de mult atmosfera din club nct a ramas acolo
pentru cteva luni. Am vzut-o n zmbetele celor
care s-au distrat, au dansat i au cntat. i-aa vor
tri fericii, pn la adnci btrnei, cu amintirea
unor zile de vis, copiii notri. Ei sunt tot ceea ce
avem mai preios, mndria noastr i, dup aceste
srbtori, sperana noastr ntr-un viitor ca-n poveti!

Chiar i n aceste condiii, antierul Naval Damen
Galati a fost ntreprinderea cu cele mai bune
rezultate obinute la ediia din acest an a
concursului, obinnd un loc I i un loc II. Iat
dovada c tinereea nu constitue o piedic n
calea priceperii, ndemnrii i pasiunii.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF
THE COMPANY THROUGH
ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION
The main targets of our companys development strategy are
increase of efficiency and improvement of both financial indicators
and clients satisfaction. Such targets have been translated into the
annual investment plans and professional training programs which
have been successfully implemented especially in recent years.
Which are the steps to be undertaken for a future sustainable
development? Can we use the same decisional strategy new
equipment/technologies and education to ensure the companys
sustainability? The economical dynamics in shipbuilding,
unbalanced by the increase of demand during 2006 2008 as well
as the new approaches with regard to companies development
allow us to believe that such two components only are not
sufficient to accomplish our goals. Innovation and technological
development leading to reduced energy consumptions and toxic
emissions should be ranked similarly with the previous two steps.
As far back as 2011 these two goals have been included in our
medium and long term strategy and now they can be found in
the investment plans for the coming period. Rehabilitation of
our companys sewage system and implementation of a waste
water treatment system shall result in improved parameters of
the discharged waste waters as per European standards and
elimination of future potential extra costs. Reduction of volatile
organic compounds emissions represents another goal which
determined us to make new investments purchasing distillers
for thinner recovery in parallel with using certain paints with
reduced thinner composition. In the same time, we want to
increase the number of green spots and plant trees in areas which
do not affect industrial spaces, action which complies with our
corporate responsibility policy.
Apart from such main improvement goals, each of us may
contribute to the reduction energy consumptions by eliminating
wastage, maintaining in good conditions the permanent and
temporary energetic fluid installations and by selective waste
storage. The daily activities which can be carried out in this respect
will lead not only to the improvement of economic indicators
but to developing the concept of sustainable increase through
environment protection.
Besides these investment and organizational actions, next year
we will take pride in the delivery of the first hybrid propulsion
tug, project which mixes both the innovational side with the
green development side in shipbuilding.
The attention we pay to sustainable development in which
environment protection represents a key factor as well as the
efforts of all Damen employees for maintaining and improving
the companys competitiveness entitle us to look confident to
the future of shipbuilding at mile 80 on the Danube river.

Strategia de dezvoltare a companiei noastre are ca principale obiective
creterea eficienei, mbuntirea indicatorilor financiari i a gradului de
satisfacie a clienilor. Aceste inte au fost transpuse n planurile de
investiie anuale i n programele de formare profesional pe care le-am
derulat cu success n special n ultimii ani.
Care sunt msurile pe care le putem ntreprinde pentru o dezvoltare
durabil pe viitor? Mai putem folosi aceeai strategie decizional noi
echipamente/tehnologii i educaie pentru a asigura sustenabilitatea
companiei? Dinamica economic a sectorului construciilor navale,
dezechilibrat de creterea cererii n perioada anilor 2006 2008 i noile
abordri n privina dezvoltrii companiilor ne ndreptesc s spunem
c doar aceste dou componente nu sunt suficiente pentru a ne ndeplini
obiectivele. Inovarea i dezvoltarea tehnologic ce duce la reducerea
consumului de energie i a emisiilor de noxe trebuie puse pe acelai plan
cu cele dou aciuni precedente.

termen mediu i lung, ele regsindu-se acum n planurile de investiii
pentru perioada urmtoare. Reabilitarea sistemului de canalizare din
societate i realizarea unui sistem de tratare a apelor uzate va duce la
mbuntirea parametrilor apelor uzate deversate la standarde europene
i eliminarea unor poteniale costuri suplimentare viitoare. Reducerea
emisiilor de compui organici volatili este un alt obiectiv pentru care avem

Iat care sunt recomandrile organizaiei mondiale pentru mbuntirea
sntii prin activitate fizic :
n cel puin 150 minute de activiti fizice de intensitate moderat n
timpul sptmnii sau cel puin 75 minute de activiti de intensitate
mare de-a lungul unei sptmni - ori o combinaie similar a celor
dou tipuri de activiti ;
n activitile trebuie realizate n reprize de cel puin 10 minute;
n pentru beneficii suplimentare de sntate, adulii trebuie s creasc
activitile fizice moderate la 300 minute pe sptmn sau 150 minute
pentru cele intense- ori s combine cele dou tipuri de activiti;
n activitile pentru ntrirea musculaturii care s implice grupurile majore
de muchi, ar trebui realizate de cel puin dou ori pe sptmn.
Participarea la activiti care ne oblig s gndim, s facem micare i
s avem o via social, ne ajut s avem o atitudine pozitiv i s ne
pstram sntoi i inteligeni odat cu avansarea n vrst.

cunoatere i profesionalism. Este ceva complex, care nu se poate crea
fr o educaie n acest sens. Cred c visul oricrui inginer navalist este
de a realiza o mbinare perfect ntre acumulri i contribuii personale.
Important este ca, dup etapa de educaie, s continui s acumulezi cu
folos, gndind mereu cum s pui n practic cele nvate. Am convingerea
c este foarte important s te dedici ntru totul acestei profesii, deoarece
jumti de msur nu exist.
Un vapor l pot compara cu un copil: se nate, se cldete cu grij dup
anumite reguli, i se ofer toate condiiile s creasc n armonie, este
mereu n centrul ateniei, iar atunci cnd este mare i gata de plecare,
ne ofer toate satisfaciile.
Exist rutin n activitatea pe care o desfurai?
Nici vorb de rutin. Preocuparea pentru inventic inovaie m-a
caracterizat ntotdeauna. Fr fals modestie, sunt unul dintre cei mai
mptimii n formularea propunerilor pentru mbuntirea calitii i
eficientizarea proiectelor. De multe ori las imaginaia s lucreze, caut
mereu ceva nou care s ofere navei caliti sporite, soluii tehnice noi i
costuri de producie ct mai reduse.
Pentru mine, este un lucru extraordinar. ncurajez noua generaie s
acioneze n acest sens, fructificnd ansa de a-i exprima propriile idei
i noile opiuni tehnice i economice. Rutina se nvinge prin creativitate!
Cu toii facem compromisuri pentru a ajunge acolo unde ne dorim. Ce
compromisuri ai fost nevoit s facei pe parcursul carierei?
Mai nti, vreau sa menionez c nu factorul materiala determinat alegerea
activitii pe care o desfor acum. De regul, n via, cel mult 15% faci
ceea ce-i place; restul reprezint ceea ce trebuie s faci. Ideal este ca,
ceea ce trebuie s faci s i i plac! Dac ar fi s numesc un compromis
pe care l-am fcut, ei bine, ar fi acela de a rmne n ar, fidel aceleiai
companii - tiut fiind faptul c, n afar, salariile sunt cu mult mai mari.
Cred c activitatea de coordonare nave, prin complexitatea ei i prin
responsabilitile ce le implic, ar trebui apreciat mult mai mult, sub
toate aspectele. Adevrul este c, muli din colegii mei mai tineri i-au
valorificat ansa i s-au desprins de antier unde, practic, s-au format
profesional.
Cum v-ai caracteriza n cteva cuvinte?
Sunt nelegtor, rbdtor, dar n acelai timp i foarte exigent. Apreciez
ntotdeauna implicarea celor din jur i lucrurile de calitate. Nu trec cu
vederea anumite neajunsuri, eecuri sau greeli pe care ncerc s le
rezolv imediat, mpreun cu cei din jurul meu, astfel nct s elimin
impactul negativ sau nemulumirile care pot aprea mai trziu. mi place
s-i nv pe cei tineri, dei, din pcate, nu mai sunt muli care cupleaz
la acest deziderat. Sunt bucuros c am reuit s formez tineri navaliti
care peste timp m-au rspltit cu mulumiri, venite din cele mai
ndeprtate locuri, de acolo de unde lucreaz ei acum. Important n via
este s vrei s cunoti i calea i se va deschide.
Care este cea mai importanta realizare profesional de pn acum?
Cu plcere, dei au trecut mai bine de 12 ani de atunci, mi aduc aminte
de momentul n care coordonam activitatea de reparaii nave i, n
acelai timp, se puneau bazele activitii de construcie a navelor mici
i a remorcherelor. Era pionieratul n remorchere. Am pornit cu un colectiv
restrns, fr experien n domeniul navelor mici, neavnd logistica
necesar, dar cu mult curaj i druire. Rezultatele nu au ntrziat s
apar: dac ne gndim la numrul de remorchere fabricate n antierul
nostru pn astzi, ajungem la impresionanta cifr de 110 nave livrate,
iar multe dintre ele mi poart amprenta. Sunt un om norocos pentru
c lucrez de atta vreme n acest colectiv minunat!
Care este mesajul dumneavoastr pentru cititorii revistei noastre?
Atunci cnd realizezi c activitatea ta nu se deosebete cu nimic de a
altora i c eti pe drumul spre o via monoton cu momente care se
repet la nesfrit, lipsit de interes, fr satisfacii, cu stres i
nemulumiri, este timpul s iei o decizie important n via i s alegi
calea optim pentru tine, s valorifici la maxim calitile pe care le ai,
s lupi pentru a fi mulumit de ceea ce faci!
