Capt. Wilmore,
himself a 1981 graduate of
Mt. Juliet High, and the rest
of crew of Atlantis, blasted
into space Monday afternoon
from Florida’s Kennedy
Space Center -- marking the
beginning of the end of the
space shuttle program.
Atlantis will deliver
some 15 tons of equipment
to the International Space
Station and return one of
its crew members to Earth
during an 11-day mission.
The space craft
is expected to dock with
the ISS sometime today
(Wednesday).
Choudhury won the
chance through a question
contest with Wilmore’s alma
mater -- Tennessee Tech.
Choudhury says
she is looking forward to
speaking with Wilmore while
he orbits in space.
Her question, “If
your communication devices
failed in space what would
you do about that – cause

Commission fails to decide on support for Curd Road construction

Wilson County
Commissioners were at
odds with one another on a
number of issues and ended
up making decisions that did
not exactly show support for
their constituents.
Monday night’s
meeting began with District
22 Commissioner Heather
Scott of Mt. Juliet moving
two resolutions to right after
the reading of the minutes
because she had to leave
during the meeting.
Those resolutions
dealt with removing the
Road Committee Chairman’s
salary and another about
holding the funding of the
construction on the county’s
portion of Curd Road.
The most important
issue of the evening was
the latter of the two, which

To the Editor:
I want to commend
all of the city employees
involved in the creation of
Mount Juliet’s first disc golf
course at Mundy Park. I
have long advocated for such
a course to be created here,
but these folks went out and
got it done!
I have played disc
golf for some years and
took advantage of the
weather this weekend to
check out the new course.
This is an easy course for
the experienced disc golfer
and that is a big plus for
novices, seniors, and those
who want to get their kids in
on the fun. Disc golf is an
inexpensive sport that offers
anyone an opportunity to
compete with friends, bring
their kids along or take
in a round on their own.
Playing by myself I was able
to complete the nine-hole
course in about half an hour
while getting in some needed
excercise.
Our local sporting
goods store has everything
you need for a round of disc
golf. This course can be a
‘one club’ course for those
on a budget. I recommend
a mid-range ‘driver’ like
the Innova ‘Shark’. Kids
should look for ‘clubs’ at
or under 150 grams or just
use the larger flying discs
they are used to. Disc golf
has long been established
as a professional sport and
everything from long range
‘drivers’ to ‘putters’ are
available for the enthusiast
who wants to branch out
to other area courses. For

Mundy Park has
historically been sadly
underutilized and has long
been criticized for the level
of expense it has created
versus its level of use by
residents of Mount Juliet.
Indeed, when I was there
to play a round of disc golf
on Sunday, there was a
small group from outside of
WIlson County on the soccer
field, me, and a group ahead
of me playing the new disc
golf course. This course is
good news for our residents
and for Mundy Park. There
is still work to be done- I
never found the first ‘tee’
and course markers are
needed- but I urge everyone
to check out this great new
addition to the recreational
opportunities in Mount
Juliet.

permits issued hit a new high
for the month of October,
City officials said Monday.

Aldi opening date set for April ‘10

a cult following, in the first
quarter of next year when
Aldi opens its doors on N.
Mt. Juliet Road.
According to local
Aldi Director of Real Estate
Jesse Anesi, the discount
grocery store is slated to
open in April 2010, weather
permitting. The sign is
already up and construction
underway on the lot
across from the Paddocks
development housing Lowe’s
and Wal-Mart on S. Mt.
Juliet Road.

HDP Motorcycles of Mt. Juliet held a “Bug Run” and chili dinner
on Saturday, November 14, with half of the proceeds to benefit the
Mt. Juliet Help Center. A total of $1,030.00 was raised, with half
the money to be used to buy food for the Help Center, and the other
half given as a prize to the winner: whoever kills a bug closest to
a sticker on the middle of the rider’s motorcycle. When presented
with her winnings of $515.00, Toni Owens gave the money back and
said, “Use it to buy food for the Help Center.” HDP owner David
Howell estimated over 3,000 pounds of food was purchased for the

growing trend in the number
of false police reports filed.

and several more are being
presented to the Wilson

are being filed as a result of
the current economic times.
During one recent
investigation a subject
reported that he had been
robbed at the Mt. Juliet
League Ballpark. His story
just did not seem valid to the
detectives working the case
and after a lengthy interview
the offender did admit that
the report was false. The
subject stated that he owed
money and was hoping to
buy himself more time in
paying a loan with a report
from the Police Department.
The subject was charged
in Wilson County and is
currently on probation.
The other reason for
false reports is the misuse
of prescription drugs. In the
past several weeks the Mt.
Juliet Police Department
has seen an increase in the
number of citizens calling to
report that their prescription
medication has been stolen,
lost, and in some cases
flushed down the toilet. The
Police Department is finding
that as a result of the tough
economic times people
who would never think
about selling or misusing
prescription drugs are now
selling prescription drugs to
keep the lights on or food in
the refrigerator.
Lt. Detective Gwin
King, Supervisor of the
Criminal Investigations
Division, wants to warn
those involved in filing false
police reports that they will
be charged with a class E
Felony which can carry up
to 6 years in prison and a
fine up to $3,000.00. Those
who falsely report that
medication has been stolen
and are currently receiving
benefits from TennCare will
have the report forwarded
and charged by the Inspector
General’s office and could
be charged with defrauding
the government which would
result in more time in jail if
convicted and loss of that
benefit.
Chief Andy Garrett
warns that those who
continue to file false police
reports will be charged and
prosecuted to fullest extent
of the law. The chief further
states that the increase,
in these false reports have
put a strain on the Police
Department and the judicial
system as a whole. Anyone
that files a false police
report with the Mt. Juliet
Police Department will be
prosecuted to the fullest
extent of the law.

Charlie Daniels Park hosts hundreds for TYFA State Championships

Mt. Juliet Youth Football and Cheerleading hosted the TYFA State Championship for the second year
in a row at the sports fields at Charlie Daniels Park. Mt. Juliet hosted Old Hickory, Bordeaux, Franklin,
Murfreesboro, Smyrna, Spring Hill, Madison, Hendersonville, Grassland, Brentwood, Shelbyville,
Nolensville, Goodlettsville, Antioch, East Side and Waverly. Our very own Mt. Juliet had four teams

School Class of 1949 reunion. The caption mistakenly
said the reunion was held at Wilson Central High School,
when in fact it was held at the new Mt. Juliet High School.

MJHS Baseball Training Camp

will be held Friday, December 4, at Mt. Juliet High School and
the indoor baseball hitting facility. The camp will be run by
Coach Mark Purvis, assistant coaches, varsity players and
college players (former MJHS players). Camp will cover all
fundamentals: pitching, hitting, defense, base running and
game situations. Dinner will be provided. Concessions will
also be open if campers would like to purchase snacks. What
to bring: shorts, t-shirt, sweats, ball cap, 1 glove, 1 bat turf
or tennis shoes (no cleats), sleeping bag (for overnighters),
money for snacks. Make sure your name is on all items. All
pickup will be at the South Side of the Main Building at 11
p.m. or 7 a.m. Parents will be given a ticket, you must have

Local water park, marina bought by former Six Flags execs

City amusement park, has
purchased Nashville Shores
Water Park and Marina.
Burke, formerly

Flags, have formed Nashville
Shores Holdings, LLC and
acquired Nashville Shores.
Terms of the transaction

Take a “Stroll through the Decades” with the Volunteer State
Community College Alumni Association as they celebrate
Homecoming on Saturday, November 21. The Pioneer
basketball teams will take on Motlow State in two games: 2
p.m. and 4 p.m. Alumni in attendance will be recognized at
half court between the games. Vol State Cheerleaders and the
Dance Team are set to perform. The Alumni Association and

Taking stuff for granted
The human mind is amazing. Just think about it. Think of all the things you can do without
really even thinking about it. Just try this. Raise your arms above your head, wiggle your fingers,
stick your tongue out and hum. I want you to think of all the things you just did without much
effort at all. Then I want you to realize how blessed you are to be able to do all those things with
little or no effort.
There are many people each and every day that are either born without the ability or lose
the ability to do all the things you just did and more as a result of an injury or illness. There are
many days when most of us awake in just an all around bad mood. I must admit that I do this
myself. I have gone many days wining because of some of the smallest things. But all it takes for
me to be put in my place is to see someone else facing far more challenges than me handling
their situation with far more class, dignity, character, integrity and enthusiasm. Now that is
something that can set you straight in a hurry.
Life is not easy and there is always going to be someone else that will face far more
challenges in life. The positive lessons we learn from them is what makes us tougher, stronger
and more supportive.
The older I have gotten and the more challenges and experiences I have each and every
day have taught me many things, especially gratitude, humbleness and the ability to count and
appreciate my many blessings.
The older I get the less I find myself fussing about what I do and don’t have. I personally
think that is why we do so much for our children. We want the very best for them and will do
without so that our children have better than what we had when we were kids.
With all of this in mind, please count your blessings each and every day. Please take time
to realize what we sometimes take for granted. Please love on the ones you love each and every
moment and chance you get for there are no guarantees they will be here tomorrow. Please
take time to talk, listen, touch and learn from those that you love and care for because there is

Tennessee Season to Remember
December 3
Governor Phil Bredesen and First Lady Andrea Conte will host the seventh annual “Tennessee
Season to Remember,” a holiday memorial service for families and friends who have lost a loved
one to homicide. The public is invited to attend this year’s ceremony at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday,
December 3, in the House Chambers located on the second floor of the State Capitol. Parking
is available downtown and admission is open. For more information about the event, please

MJHS Baseball Training Camp
December 4
MJHS Baseball Training Camp will be held Friday, December 4, at Mt. Juliet High School and the
indoor baseball hitting facility. The camp will be run by Coach Mark Purvis, assistant coaches,
varsity players and college players (former MJHS players). Camp will cover all fundamentals:
pitching, hitting, defense, base running and game situations. Dinner will be provided. Concessions
will also be open if campers would like to purchase snacks. What to bring: shorts, t-shirt, sweats,
ball cap, 1 glove, 1 bat turf or tennis shoes (no cleats), sleeping bag (for overnighters), money
for snacks. Make sure your name is on all items. All pickup will be at the South Side of the
Main Building at 11 p.m. or 7 a.m. Parents will be given a ticket, you must have that ticket to
