Overview:
Thoraxtraumaisoneofthemostfrequentacciedentindailylife.Theeffectofthoraxinjuryis
often undetected and causes fataly to the injured person. Most of the chest trauma patient
(70%)onlyneeded simpletreatmentforlivesaving. Thistreatmentcanbedobythegeneral
physicianinthehospital,heathcareunitandevenemergencyunitinthefield.Thistreatment
suchasneedledecompression,chesttubeinsertion(WSD),etc.Andsmallnumber(10%)need
a surgical treatment do by the expertise. This treatment such as Thorachotomy, ORIF of the
rib,etc.
Objective

discussions and tutorials are held every morning from 7: 30 pm to 9: 00 a.m. on Monday,
TuesdayandThursday.PlacesintheConferenceRoomofthoracicsurgery
discussionsconductedafterthepatientroundswithresidents.
Materialdiscussedisthepatientsinwards,clinicsandemergencyrooms.
Discussionsincludeplanningtheoryandpatientmanagement.

Practicalsessions:
Practice every workday. The practice of checking, take action and live saving performed if
possibleunderthesupervisionofadesignatedsupervisororresident.Thispracticeisdoneon
the ward, clinic, emergency room and operating room. Students are strictly prohibited to
inspectandtakeactionagainstpatientswithoutthepermissionofthesupervisor.

The cornea is the protective layer of the eye. It serves as a barrier against dirt, germs,
and other particles that can harm the eye's delicate components. The cornea is also capable of

Indonesia is an agriculture country and recently we have so many ocular surface and corneal

Overview:
Learning process of anatomy as a foundation of medicine has been developed into
variousgoalsandmethods.Basicallyitisbasedoncadaverdissection.Howeverduetoseveral
innovationandcondensingcurriculumandlearningduration,nowadays,nolongeropportunity
for medical students to practice cadaver dissection. Learning resources are substituted with
other materials, such as prepared specimens, dummies, virtual animations, or only two
dimensional figures in the atlas of anatomy. Experiencing cadaver dissection provides many
advantages,including:

The Department of Pharmacology & Theraphy offer 3 major course for elective

Overview:
Alternativetherapy such as Herbal medicine,acupuncture,massage is becoming atrendinthe
communityanditisnowconsideredbeingawayoflifeforsomepeople.Herbalmedicineisbelieved
tohavepotencytocureanditcancompetewithconventionalmedicinesinceitiseffectiveforsome
instance,safeandcheap.Indonesiaandsometropicalcountrieshavebeenknowntohaveplantsthat
arepotentialasphytotherapy,butfurtherresearchandprocessarestillneededabundant.
This module introduces to the students the knowledge about the development of herbals to
herbal preparation which useful for therapeutic such as traditional medicine (jamu), standardized
herbalextract,phytopharmaca,andalsomoderndrug.Studentswillbeacquaintedthebasicmaterials
of herbal medicine and phytopharmaca, how to identify the secondary metabolic of extract, to
appraise critically of evidence related to herbal medicine, and application of herbal medicine and
phytopharmaca in evidence based clinical practice. Students will also be required to do simple
researchusingphytopharmacaandvisittoherbalmedicinegarden/practicesite.

medicinearerecommendedwhiletheothersarenot.Thismightbearesultofearlierpharmacology
trainingwhichconcentratesmoreontheorythanonclinicalapplication.Thetrainingwasprobably

Introduction and an overview on EpsteinBarr Virus (EBV), Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma
(NPC) and their correlation. It will be given in the form of lectures and journal

The EBV based diagnostic techniques (Westernblotimmunoblot and ELISA) will be
provided in these weeks. The students will do the observation as well as having the
opportunities to handson the techniques afterward. One technique will be done in a

Overview:
Blood transfusion is one of the important supportive therapy for appropriate
patients. There are some aspects in blood transfusion i.e. blood screening, component
preparation, blood storage, pretransfusion testing, rational use of blood, and
transfusionreactions.Alltheseaspectsshouldbeconsideredbyphysiciansbeforegiving
blood to their patients. Safe blood components, appropriate compatibility testing,
advantages and disadvantages of transfusion therapy should be understood by

Sardjito Hospital Bloodbank collects blood from donors, process it into
components, screen for infectious diseases, store, and distribute it to the patients. As

The tenet "Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food," espoused by Hippocrates
nearly2,500yearsago,isreceivingrenewedinterest.Inparticular,therehasbeenanexplosion
of consumer interest in the health enhancing role of specific foods or physiologicallyactive
food components, socalled functional foods. Clearly, all foods are functional, as they provide
taste, aroma, or nutritive value. Within the last decade, however, the term functional as it
applies to food has adopted a different connotation that of providing an additional

REGULATIONS

1. Applicants of Elective Programme should be in Yogyakarta before the commencement of the
programme. Upon arrival and before leaving Yogyakarta, the applicants should report to the
Secretariat of International Affairs and Student Service Faculty of Medicine Universitas Gadjah
Mada.
2. Duringtheprogramme,theparticipantwillbepositionedas anobserver in mostdailyactivities.
Incertaincases,theparticipantispermittedtointeractwithpatientundersupervisionfromthe
attendingstaff/doctorincharge.
3. During the period of the elective programme, the participants should fully attend all
programmes.Oncetheparticipantsbegintheirfirstrotation,theywillnotbepermittedtomake
anychangestotheirschedule.
4. The courses and clinical instructions are majority given in Bahasa Indonesia. Therefore, it is
advised to applicants to make some efforts into that language in order to achieve maximum
benefitsoftheprogramme.
5. As an elective student you will be involved in daytoday interactions with patient, members of
thepublic,andmembersofmedicalstaff.Theseinteractionsmayinvolvediscussionsofsensitive
issuesandtheperformanceofarangeofclinicalduties.
6. The participants must be wellgroomed and professional in appearance by establishing
yourselvesinparticularattireasfollows;

statusasastudentisclear.
Malestudentsareexpectedtowearcollaredshirts.
Femalestudentsareexpectedtodressmodestlyandavoidtopsthatarelowcutor

Visas

After the expected departments produce a letter of approval, the Secretariat will issue a Letter of
AcceptanceandaLetterofSponsorfortheapplicantstoapplyforIndonesiaSocialandCultureVisa
orVisaKunjunganSosialBudaya(VKSB)attheIndonesianEmbassyorConsulateGeneralavailablein
yourcountries.

HealthInsuranceandVaccination

The participant is required to arrange an International Health Insurance Plan, which will cover the
participantsmedicalexpensesduringtheprogramme.
Vaccination is advised against Hepatitis A&B and Typhoid. If visiting islands outside Java and Bali,
prophylaxisforMalariaisrecommended.

Accommodation

Programme fee does not include the accommodation fee during the programme. The participants
