Women Inequality
An Annotated Bibliography

I am going to write my essay on Women Inequality and how it is still present in out
society. Women struggle with these issues everyday and although many state that we have
reached a point of equality with men, it is not true. There are issues that are still present in our
times and unless women and men get together and agree that we are all equal, nothing will ever
change. Below is the list of research i did and why i chose it.

Anesi, Jen."Hiring women is a 'recipe for failure'? Gender inequality ignorance summed up in
one anonymous letter." Air Conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration News 25 Nov. 2013:
22. Gale Power Search. Web. 20 May 2014.
I really liked this article that talks about women in the work field that is suppose
to be for a man. It is an author who works for this publication company with the
same knowledge as her peers which were male, was issued a letter by a customer
to the publisher that hiring a woman in a male dominated industry was a sure

recipe for failure. This goes to show how gender inequality also exists in the
workplace.
Franke-Ruta, Garance. "Miss education: why women's success in higher education hasn't led to
more female leaders." The Atlantic Apr. 2013: 28+. Gale Power Search. Web. 20 May
2014.
This is a very interesting article because it talks about how many women go to
school to get an education yet still work for men. Sandberg states, in one
important arena, women have already, to borrow Sandberg's phrase, been
aggressively leaning in: school. Women surpassed men as a percentage of college
students in the late 1980s, and by 2009 had become the majority of master's
degree students and doctoral candidates. The majority of Americans older than 25
with college degrees are, today, women. Yet just 4.2 percent of Fortune 500 CEOs
are women.
Giuffre, Patti A. "Legalizing Gender Inequality: Courts, Markets, And Unequal Pay For Women
In America (Book)." Social Forces 78.3 (2000): 1163-1164. Business Source
Elite. Web. 20 May 2014.
I chose this article because it talks about how women's pay in the workforce is not
equal to that of men. Sociologists Robert Nelson (who also holds a J.D.) and
William Bridges examine the relationship between laws, markets, organizations,
and gender inequality, emphasizing wage disparities between men and women.

Jacobus, Lee A. "Mary Wollstonecraft Of the Pernicious Effects Which Arise from the Unnatural
Distinctions Established in Society." A World of Ideas: Essential Readings for College
Writers. 653-66. Print.
In this essay written by Mary Wollstonecraft, she wrote that women should have
the same legal status and rights as men. She did not accept the legitimacy of
female subordination to men, and argued forcefully that girls should receive
identical educational and other opportunities to boys. She also objected strongly
to the contemporary legal notion that wives were the "property" of their husbands
with no independent rights in law. This helped to show that woman have shown
progress in our society but these are still issues we are facing today.
"The chicken or the egg: women's empowerment and economic development." Monthly Labor
Review Mar. 2012: 67. Gale Power Search. Web. 20 May 2014.
This article talks about women equalities and politics. It states that on one side
are policymakers and social scientists who contend that women's equality is
enhanced when poverty decreases; such policymakers aim to create the conditions
for economic growth without necessarily proposing policies targeted
specifically at women.
