Loving the Unlovable. A.

Johnson

Yes, I went there! There are people in this world that are unlovable. There are people in this
world that physically and emotionally abuse others. They intentionally hurt others for their own
emotional gain. Somehow they feel taller and stronger when they hurt and abuse the weak. In scripture
we as Christians are called to love even the worst of people. God doesnt say to love all of the ones that
love you back. He actually says specifically in His word that we are to love your enemies and pray for
those that persecute you. Mathew 5:44 (NIV).

In times when we are faced with people that are intentionally out to get us, we have to put on
that full armor of God and really allow that Holy Spirit to work through us, to not exchange lashing for
lashing. It is in those times when we are to allow Gods grace to flow through us, a grace that is
sufficient for all situations and love these people despite their actions. Follow me on this before you
jump ship!

Loving someone doesnt mean that we constantly take their blows or that we even stand in
punching range of them. The most loving act we can do for these people is pray for them. We are
always quick to pray for those that we love, our friends and family, even fellow Christians, but the last
thing we want to do is pray for someone that hurts us.

When we pray we are handing it over to God, the person and the situation. We are seeking His
Godly intervention. God promises in His word He will indeed fight for us. So lets give Him the battle. We
are asking for God to penetrate this persons heart and instill some compassion and mercy, to open the
eyes of the blind, to bring this person to repentance. There is so much power in prayer and prayer is the
most loving act one person can do for another.

Throughout the bible Christians dealt with the unlovable. Paul prior to the Damascus road
experience, himself, was one of the unlovable and look what God did with him?? Is it possible someone
was praying over this unlovable man, this murderer? To my knowledge there is no account of that
taking place, but I do know there were Christians at that time and as believers we are called to love one
another, so to me it is quite possible someone loved this unlovable man through the power of prayer

So whoever you are facing today, whatever unlovable person that is casting dispersions, step
away from the line of fire and go into your prayer closet and hand it over to our mighty God in prayer.
Let Him defend you and let Him fight this battle for you. Dont ever forget who we are as Christians,
more than conquerors. God has got the victory, you just need to believe!
Matthew 5:43You have heard that it was said, Love your neighbor
i
and hate your enemy. 44But I tell you, love
your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes
his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46If you love those who
love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47And if you greet only your own
people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly
Father is perfect.
