Problem Statement
You are given a task by the mayor of your hometown to evaluate and give suggestion on how to
plan the town in accordance with Local Agenda 21. Write a brief report on your evaluation and
suggestion.

Transport
In my hometown, Tanjung Malim, there are a lot of public transports provided in this town. But,
there are some issues regarding with the public transport. As we know, the public transports
make our life more convenient. In this situation, for KTM station, the location is very far from
the bus station. We have to go to the KTM station by taxi.
Next issue of the transport is about their mobility. To make it more sustainability, the public
transport system need to be improvised. We can start enhancing it by adding more route and path
for a shorter commute for the people. Apart from that, we can encourage people to use bicycle
more often, not only because it is good for health but also can save the environment too.

Education
The education system in this town, is covered from the kindergarten to highest level education.
The highest level education such as UPSI, known as one of the oldest university in Malaysia.
Education system must be systematic and reliable for living purpose. We must try to develop a
new reliable system, such as from examination based system to long life learning and application
based system. This will help the youth to be more creative.


Health and healthcare
In my hometown, there are a few of private polyclinic, clinics and hospital. People can get
immediate treatment for their health because there a few healthcare in the area. The only issue
for the private healthcare, the medicine cost or treatment is more expansive that the government
hospital or clinic.


Waste and recycling
The wastes are collected based on the time table that is made by the MDTM. There are three
zones of Tanjung Malim, two zones of Slim River, the other is Slim River and Trolak, Slim
River and Slim Village and last one is Behrang.
The timetable is very systematic and effective. There are some places need to collect their wastes
in everydays, or every Monday, Wednesday and Friday or every Tuesday, Thursday and
Saturday.

Employment
For employment in my hometown, there are a lot of job opportunities. For example, there is a
hypermarket in Behrang 2020, PROTON factory and many more.



Green space

Some of the green spaces in my hometown are Sungai Bil, Sungai Slim, Strata Falls, and Proton
City. Each of the green spaces has their own activities. For example, Sungai Bil and Strata Falls
as the water falls, Sungai Slim as water rafting and for proton city as the recreational park.

SUSTAINABILITY CONCEPT
Sustainability is the practice of creating structures and using processes that are environmentally
responsible and resource-efficient throughout a buildings life cycle. Its concept is to reduce the
environmental impact of new buildings. Buildings account for a large amount of land use, energy
and water consumption, as well as air and surrounding atmosphere.
Besides, sustainability also is the measurement of capability to sustain in long term by
considering the environment, social, public health and safety. In real construction world,
sustainability is a very important concept to provide a better place to our next generation.
Sustainable design can reduce the overall impact of the built environment on human health and
the natural environment by:
Efficiently using energy, water and other resources
Protecting occupant health and improving employee productivity
Reducing waste, pollution and environmental degradation.
