Today our objective is to perform a rhythmic ostinato on unpitched percussion instruments by reading
musical notation but first, we are going to learn about a new note called a dotted half note.
We know a half note is worth two beats.
So, lets look at a half note. We say Ta-a for half notes, but when I add this dot next to it, we now say
Ta-a-a. (Draw a dotted half note)
Now it is worth three beats.

Its time to practice the Ostinato on the board, but first I am going to Cold Call someone to fill in the
syllables in the blanks at the bottom of the notes to help us read them. (Cold Call)
Excellent, now we can practice our ostinato.
We are going to count and clap the two measures of our ostinato.
I will clap first, then you will clap and count second.
I expect to see 100% participation as we clap and count.
