Lesson plan 5

Date: November 16, 2009 Level: Second year of high school

Skill: Listening and Speaking

Expected Outcomes: Students will be able to listen to and to comprehend spoken information in English; they will be able
to identify general and specific information in order to answer some questions. They will be able to express their preferences
about different places to go on a trip.

Resources: board, markers, guide of exercises, quizzes, radio, recording.

Introduction

Classroom setting 5’ Students arrive at the classroom and have to look for their aprons and put them on.

Every Monday morning the students pray for their personal intentions.

Students will be told about what the lesson is going to be about and what the main

Core of the class

Quiz (fomativo) 15’ Students will take a quiz on the contents before the test so that they can check what
they know and what their common mistakes are.

7’ The quiz will be checked on the board so that students can know what their
mistakes are in order to study for the test.

Listening:
“Planning a Trip”

• Pre-listening: 15’ Students will be asked to talk about what places they would like to go and why
(giving characteristics and adjectives to describe it)

5’ Some of the vocabulary and expressions necessary to understand the tape will be
checked on the board. The meanings will be given by the students with the help of
the teacher to give context to the words.

• While-listening 3’ The recording will be first played one time so that students can get a general idea of
the topic of the listening and take some notes.

3’ Students will be given a guide of several questions to answer and some true or
false statements. Students will be allowed to read the guide in silence first so that
they know what they are expected to do.

3’ The recording will be played a second time so that students can complete the
activity.

3’ The recording will be played a third time so that students can complete the activity
in case they have any doubt left.

3’ (Students will be asked if they need the recording to be played a fourth time, due to
they usually need to listen to the recording several times).

• Post-listening 12’ The answers of the previous activity will be checked orally and also written on the
board in order to check spelling and grammar.

Closing

Summary 5’ We will make a summary of all what we learned during the lesson, in order to clarify
any doubt about the content before the test.
