FinnvedenBulten signs strategically
important contract with automotive
manufacturer in China
FinnvedenBultens division Bulten has signed a strategi-
cally important contract for delivery of fasteners to an au-
tomotve manufacturer in China and will thereby strengthen
its presence on the Chinese market. The annual order value
is approximately SEK 10 million and contnues over a num-
ber of years.
Bulten has for a number of years back a fully owned
factory in China with local manufacturing of high quality fas-
teners. An important part of our strategy for organic growth
is to expand on growth markets and the fact that we have
signed a new contract in China is very pleasing, says Tommy
Andersson, CEO of Bulten.
The contract, startng in 2014, concerns deliveries of
fasteners to both car producton and drive lines and will
contnue over a number of years.
The contract means that we will advance our posi-
ton for division Bulten on the Chinese market and we see
good potental for contnued growth in China in the years to
come, says Johan Westman, President and CEO of Finnve-
denBulten.
Kingfishers shares hit as profits
disappoint
Shares in Kingfsher, the owner of DIY chains
B&Q and Screwfx, have fallen 5% afer the group
reported lower-than-expected profts for the third
quarter.
Despite a very strong performance from
Screwfx, group chief executve Ian Cheshire said
markets remain challenging.
Group retail proft was 271m (325.6m euros) for the
13 weeks to 2 November, up 1.7% on the same period of
2012. Analysts were expectng about 280m.
Group sales were up 1.4% to 2.9bn. I remain en-
thusiastc about our longer-term prospects, Mr Cheshire
added. UK and Ireland sales rose 3.7% to 1.1bn over the
period, helping retail proft grow 8.3% to 63m.
Screwfx saw its sales grow 21.1% - or 11.1% af-
ter stripping out the efect of new store openings - to
180m. Its performance improved due to extended
opening hours, new store openings, and the successful
introducton of a mobile click, pay and collect ofer last
year, the company said.

Clufix launches third generation as-
sembly process fastener
Clufx, which designs, develops and produces fxing
and assembly solutons for sheet metal and plastc parts,
has launched a new fastening device that looks set to revo-
lutonise the assembly process in the automotve industry,
and a range of other manufacturing sectors.
The Leankeasy blind rivet bolt is a single, ready-to-set,
pre-assembled component comprising both a screw and a
nut. The product is completely unique, as crimping the nut
and screwing the screw occur in the same step, providing a
wide range of benefts, including signifcant cost savings.
The key markets at which Leankeasy is initally being
targeted are France, Germany, Italy and the UK. Clufx
plans to begin selling the product to the US automotve
industry from 2015.

2014 European Fastener Industry Outlook
Interview with Leaders of European Fastener Associations
Dr. Volker Lederer
President, European Fastener
Distributors Associaton (EFDA)
Gian Marco Dalpane
President, Unione Distributori
Italiani Bulloneria (UDIB)
Mustafa Tecdeliolu
President, Balant Elemanlar
Sanayici ve Adamlar Dernei
(BESIAD)
Q1 What is the No.1 issue for your association in 2014?
EFDA: The most important issue for our associaton is
to steadily improve the trading conditons for all European
fastener distributors. We fght for fair market terms on the
European level and for a free access to the global fastener
markets. We want a fair antdumping politcs in Europe and
we dont tolerate circumventon actvites outside Europe.
UDIB: Well, now that we really give benefts to our
members, our goal is to raise their number, becoming the
most important European associaton, if not in turnover at
least in number of companies represented. A greater num-
ber of members will allow us to grow, not only in turnover
but also in services ofered and consideraton achieved,
especially at politcs and technical levels.
BESIAD: There are two training programs planned
for 2014. Other than that, according to the new demands,
we will have negotaton with steel manufacturers for the
possibilites in our country. We will notfy of our opinion
about new emerging and changing laws. We will have
operatons to Besiad members for special prices and par-
tcipants for support of state in the fastener fair which will
take place in the year 2014.
Q2 How do you expect the European market trend
in 2014?
EFDA: The economical situaton in Europe is probably
going to improve in 2014. It wont be a big step ahead, but
some of the weak economies see frst signs of recovery.
I dont see a special market segment which is going
to become partcularly successful in the next years. If the
recovery comes and becomes stronger in the near future,
the whole European industry should beneft from this
development.
UDIB: European market trend previews are surely
positve but unfortunately we dont have the same expecta-
tons for our domestc market. As a result, the bigger part of
our members is now facing the Italian market difcult situa-
ton and only the ones that concentrated their eforts to the
export markets are now seeing positve results. In partcular

the automotve market is now ofering growing possibilites
even if the rules to play in the feld are always harder.
BESIAD: We hope that the year of 2014 would be
beter than 2013 for European market with the growth of
Energy and Automotve industry.
Q3 How do you consider the upcoming termination
of antidumping protective measures or initiation of in
vestigations against nonEuropean countries? Do you
expect any change to the domestic European industry
after that?
EFDA: You have to diferentate between carbon steel
and stainless steel. In the carbon steel market there are
stll very powerful European producers which beneft from
actual trade defense measures. EFDA doesnt expect any
change in the existng antdumping measures for the com-
ing years. For this reason the actual market balance will
remain in the long run.
The stainless steel market is diferent. There is litle
mass producton lef in Europe. In our sight the disappear-
ance of protectve measures wont change this situaton
fundamentally.
UDIB: No! Frankly speaking I dont think that the
European fastener manufacturers will lose the possibil-
ity to renew the ADD for another fve years period. By the
way we are for the fair and free trade, and we dont think
anybody could consider the present measures fair for the
market. In my opinion the ADD system should be changed
probably adoptng a Brazilian system where the dutes
are applied against all foreign countries but with very clear
rules and possibly acceptable percentages.
BESIAD: Especially, products from the Far East
are causing unfair competton. As such, ant-dumping
investgatons are opened to the far eastern companies.
Each country must protect its own industry. Especially the
products manufactured with low labor, low energy and low
freight cost in countries such as China, Vietnam, Malaysia,
which Europe is not able to manufacture under unfair com-
petton. In case of release, many industries in Europe will
be seriously damaged and inventory quanttes will increase
in European countries.

2013 Full-Year Sales Report of European Fastener Companies
Wrth Group increases operatng result in 2013
In the business year 2013, the Wrth Group generated
sales of EUR 9.74 billion, which is less than in the previous
year (2012: EUR 9.98 billion). According to the preliminary
annual fnancial statement, this corresponds to a decline by
2.4 percent. Afer adjustng for the Groups solar actvites,
which have been abandoned in 2012, the overall decline in
sales comes to 0.1 percent. The solar business had gener-
ated sales of about EUR 250 million in 2012.
While the companies in Germany achieved an adjusted
sales plus of 1.7 percent compared to the previous year,
the adjusted sales result abroad was 1.5 percent below last
years level. This is above all due to the difcult economic
situaton in the southern European markets that are of
great importance for the Wrth Group.
Thanks to the good development of individual com-
panies such as Adolf Wrth GmbH & Co. KG, Arnold
Umformtechnik GmbH & Co. KG or the Wrth Elektronik
Group, the operatng result will range between EUR 440
and 450 million (previous year: EUR 415 million), which
consttutes an increase of at least 6 percent. The number of
employees went down by 2.5 percent to 63,571 worldwide
(previous year: 65,169). Here, it has to be mentoned that
a great part of the staf reducton was a result of the sales
development abroad.
The Wrth Groups investment volume remained on
a high level, with more than EUR 400 million invested in
2013. The new distributon center of Adolf Wrth GmbH
& Co. KG at the locaton in Gaisbach as well as the exten-
sion of the branch ofce network of the Wrth Group are
two examples. About 90 new branch ofces were opened
worldwide.
Strategic optmizaton processes, the planned recruit-
ment of 1,800 employees in the sales force and the further
development of e-business will have a positve efect, just
as the optmistc economic forecasts. In 2014, the Wrth
Group plans to generate a sales volume of more than EUR
10 billion and an operatng result of over EUR 500 million.
With an increase in equity capital of about EUR 200
million to a total of EUR 3.4 billion, the Wrth Group re-
ports an equity rato of around 42 percent in the business
year 2013, which consttutes a robust fnancial basis.
Bossard: Sales reach a new high in fscal year 2013
The Bossard Group set a new sales record in fscal year
2013. The group achieved sales of CHF 609.7 million, hence
increasing the performance level by no less than 25.2
percent (+25.3 percent in local currency). Purely organic
growth amounted to 3.1 percent in local currency.
Clear growth of European business Bossard boasted
sales of CHF 384.7 million in Europe in 2013. This translates
into increased sales of 46.3 percent in Swiss francs and
44.9 percent in local currency. Without the increase in sales
due to the acquisiton of KVT-Fastening, the Group experi-
enced a modest decrease of 0.2 percent for the entre year.
due to the difcult market environment at the beginning of
the year.
Sideways trend in the US The sales for the entre year
in the US amounted to CHF 134.6 million which, adjusted
for divestment, corresponds to a slight increase in sales of
0.3 percent in local currency. In total, US business has de-
veloped well in recent years. The year 2013 marks a certain
high-level consolidaton.
Impetus from Asia Business in Asia has been develop-
ing well. Annual sales in Asia amounted to CHF 90.4 million,
an increase of 11.1 percent. In local currency we generated
a sales increase of 13.1 percent.

2013 Full-Year Sales Report of European Fastener Companies
Signifcant progress: Bosch Group increases sales
and result
The Bosch Group increased its sales by 2.7 percent
in 2013, to 46.4 billion euros, and this despite the difcult
economic environment (adjusted previous-year fgure:
45.2 billion euros). In the form of negatve exchange-rate
efects to the tune of some 1.5 billion euros, the strong
euro places a considerable burden on the sales revenue
disclosed by the supplier of technology and services. Earn-
ings have developed fundamentally beter, but are once
again afected by the situaton of the Solar Energy division.
In early 2013, the company announced its decision to exit
its actvites in crystalline photovoltaics.
The Bosch Group EBIT margin comes to some 6 per-
cent. This is roughly one percentage point more than in the
previous year.
The strong euro had signifcant negatve efects on the
development of regional sales. Nonetheless, nominal Asia
Pacifc sales exceeded their previous-year level by some 5
percent. In North America, nominal growth was more than
3 percent. At roughly minus 3 percent in nominal terms,
sales developed negatvely in South America. Despite an
economy that remained very weak, nominal sales in Europe
grew slightly, by some 2 percent.
Hilt posts higher sales despite difcult market
conditons in Europe
In 2013, the Hilt Group succeeded in increasing sales
in local currencies by 4.5 percent compared to the previous
year. Expressed in Swiss Francs, sales grew by 3.2 percent
to CHF 4,340 million.
At 3.2 percent, sales growth for the whole of 2013
was in the expected lower single-digit range. Persistently
volatle economic conditons in diferent geographies were
refected in the sales fgures of the Hilt market regions.
Total sales for Europe in local currencies were down
1.1 percent from 2012. While the Hilt Group contnued
to grow in Central and Northern Europe, conditons in
Southern Europe remained difcult. In North America, sales
were up 2.8 percent. Sales in Emerging Markets contnued
to grow at a high pace. The regions of Eastern Europe /
Middle East / Africa (+14.3), Asia/Pacifc (+17.3%) and Latn
America (+17.9%) posted double-digit growth rates. In Swiss
Francs, however, sales growth in these regions was severely
impacted by strongly negatve exchange rate efects.

In the year being reported on, Group revenue in-
creased by 8.0% to 121.54 million (2012: 112.51m),
refectng in the main the additon of Malaysian acquisi-
ton, PSEP acquired in December 2011. During the year the
group was also successful in replacing older, non proftable
contracts with new business although it experienced high
atriton levels in both the UK due to customer end of life
builds fnishing and within Asia when two major transfer
contracts from Europe came to an end.
The key driver of growth in the year was Asia due in
the main to the acquisiton of PSEP. Within the UK, rev-
enue remained relatvely stable despite a generally lower
demand from UK customers and the transfer of some busi-
ness to the Hungary operaton. Europe delivered a strong
performance with increased sales across all the operatons
in partcular Holland and Sweden where the group was suc-

The ASEAN region remains an atractve destnaton for
foreign investments. Given its populaton of some 600 mil-
lion people and with the formaton of the ASEAN Economic
Community (AEC) 2015, this region will contnue to grow in
importance. The market in Thailand is very necessary and
relevant to companies who are involved in wire and cable
productons as these components have wide applicatons in
industries such as automotve, electrical and electronics as
well as infrastructure development.
Echoing this sentment was the President of AWCMA (Aus-
trian Wire & Cable Machinery Manufacturers Associaton),
Dr Kurt Eder who said that, the 10th editon of wire South-
east ASIA 2013 remains a true gateway to the entre region.
12 leading Austrian companies have taken this opportunity
to connect with the regional buyers and majority of these
companies are happy with their partcipaton.
The trade foor was abuzz as visitng delegatons from
Japan, Taiwan and Vietnam fuelled fruitul discussions and
exchanged business opportunites over three days. More
than 60 groups from industrial parks in Thailand atended
wire and Tube Southeast ASIA. Mr Steve Rika, Chairman
of the Internatonal Wire Machinery Associaton also
added that, IWMA considers wire Southeast ASIA to be an
important trade exhibiton for Southeast Asia as it ofers a
platorm to connect internatonal industry leaders with key
decision makers from this region.
Internatonal companies made up 97% of the exhibitor pro-
fle with representaton from eight natonal pavilions and
country groups including Austria, China, France, Germany,
Italy, Singapore, Taiwan and USA. Against this dyanamic
backdrop, Mr Gernot Ringling, Managing Director of Messe
Dsseldorf Asia commented that , We are pleased with
the double digit growth in terms of quality visitor turnout
and the internatonality of exhibitng companies on the
trade foor. The focus of the global economy is set increas-
ingly on Southeast Asia and its surrounding regions, signal-
ling that trade fairs contnue to fulfl the industries needs
as an internatonal business conduit into the region.
wire and Tube Southeast ASIA will return in two years in
September 2015 at the Bangkok Internatonal Trade and
Exhibiton Centre (BITEC) with an even bigger and beter
showcase of the best technologies, innovatons and solutons
for the thriving wire, cable, tube and pipe sectors in Bangkok,

anchor bolts.
Raising the Bar of Efficiency
The emerging positon of Vietnam as the destnaton of
choice for global manufacturers of cars, electric and elec-
tronics, and industrial parts is undeniable. This is a proof
that the manufacturing and supportng industries not only
have a bright future but also play vital roles in the well-
being of the economy. There is no wonder why the gov-
ernment has put a lot of eforts in developing the sector.
Reed Tradex has in fact been working with and receiving
supports from the government sector on advancing the de-
velopment of the industry by bringing in new technologies,
knowledge, and business opportunites through our trade

5 Questions You Need
to Know about Fastener
Market in Poland
Q1: How is the economy in Poland?
The Republic of Poland, located in the Central Europe, bordered by
Germany to the west, is a country with a populaton of over 38.5 million
people, the sixth most populous member of the European Union. Afer its
communist government overthrown and a new democratc system estab-
lished in 1989, Poland became one of the fastest growing countries in EU.
Owing to the substantal growth of capital expense, increasing demand
for labors and declining unemployment rate, Polands economy showed
contnuous growth. Even during global fnancial crisis in 2009, Poland could
outpace the other EUs members and keep itself from the recession with
the support of monetary policies, currency depreciaton and increasing
household consumpton. During 2010-2011, with the rebound of export and
household consumpton, Poland experienced a booming economy.
Q2: How many Chinese fasteners are exported to Poland every year?
Although Poland is not on the list of top 20 China fastener export
destnatons, its fastener trade volume with China should not be under-
estmated. In 2013, China exported 30,630 tons of fasteners to Poland,
worth USD 39,060,573. However, the average price of exports to Poland
was merely USD 1.28/kg. Therefore, we can
see that fasteners exported from China to
Poland are mostly low-to-medium level of
products.
Q3: How is the fastener demand in Poland?
The demand for fasteners in Poland
was mainly from the durable goods and
OEMs. However, the foreign investment
decreased in the most recent two years
due to the tght fscal policies and the weak
economy in EU. Poland demand for fasten-
ers reached USD 660 million in 2012, see
Figure A.
The demand for durable goods and
automotves have declined due to the
sluggish economy in EU, and the produc-
ton of fasteners in Poland may slows for
the ferce compettons from the advanced
fastener industries in Western Europe and
the low-producton-cost in the Asia-Pacifc
countries. Therefore, Poland demand for
fasteners is expected to increase 2% per
year to USD 72 million in 2016.

Q5: What are the characteristcs of Polish fastener
manufacturers?
Most Polish fastener producers are middle and
small-sized enterprise, which include Koelner, Marco-
pol, Zaklad Produkji Srub Wieslaw Gawel, etc. Some
companies from Western Europe also establish their
plants in Poland like Altenloh, Brinck & Company, Boll-
hof, EJOT and Vossloh (Germany). In additon, NIFCO
(Japan), FinnvedenBulten (Sweden), ITW (America) have
their plants in Poland as well.
Conclusions
Poland is a well developed industrial country but
its demand for fasteners heavily relies on imports.
Companies in China should take the advantage of their
fexible customized strengths, and be proactve in en-
tering the supply chain of Poland so as to fnd the busi-
ness opportunites in the high-end product markets.
