Findings and Recommendations

After the profound analysis and reviewing the history of Health sector in Pakistan, we found
some gaps in budget policies, monitoring, malnutrition, integration of institutions of health care.
Our recommendations are
The budget allocated to health sector should be kept stable if not increased.
Institutions associated with health sector should be properly integrated.
Political instability should not have an impact on the budget allocated to Health Care
Sector as in year 2011-12 when the major ruling party was Pakistan People Party was
very low as compared to the budget of 2012-2013 when Pakistan Muslim League N
was elected.
Increased efforts to halt the production of illegal and substandard medicines as it
increases the death rate and fear in public to seek medical services.
Increase the basic salaries of doctors as they play a key role in health sector.
New equipment and latest technology should be acquired to reduce the time spent on
treatment per patient.
Create malnutrition awareness among individuals starting from the basic education level.
Efficient monitoring and evaluating comities regarding health administration.
Proper training of medical staff such as nurses and assistants.
Medical camps and provision of health facilities in rural areas.
Reduce favoritism in hiring medical staff and while giving the health care services.

In the recent past we have been seeing some doctors and nurses, young doctors to be specific
going on strike against the government policies for the financial amenities given to them.
They claimed that their salaries and other fringe benefits were not sufficient because despite
of the budget allocated that was enough to meet the needs of Health Sector, their salaries
were much lower. This reaction of young doctors consequently had an impact on health care
services provided at the respective medical centers, which in result, caused a chaotic situation
among the patient who required necessary attention. Absenteeism increased in most of the
hospitals under government administration and patients seemed to be pretty much on their
own due to suspension of services. All the hardships of patients who traveled from remote
and rural areas to seek the medical attention they can afford seemed to be all in vain due to
this YDA (Young Doctors Association)s strike.
This is the point where one can easily judge the Governance in health care perspective. All
the government bodies have tried to come to an agreement with YDA leaders and this issue
was resolved but after a while it started all over again and YDA claimed that Government has
turned away from their promises to meet the demands made by YDA which has resulted in
another halt in medical services and patients are again on their own.
