Ход проекта
Лидер-координатор: Dear friends! We are going to present you the result of our
mutual work – the project “The Parade of English Traditions”, A month ago the
pupils of the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th forms were given tasks to find some
information about the most popular English traditions. According to these tasks all
the pupils were divided into various groups, each with its own task. As a result of
this work these groups are ready to give you the so called report about customs and
traditions of Englishmen, Parliament, Pancake Day, Guy Fawkes Night and
Christmas. Of course, there are many other English traditions and holidays, but
we’ll talk about them next time. So let’s start.
Ведущий 1: Every nation and every country has its own traditions and customs.
In Britain traditions play a very important role in the life of people mostly because
the British are very conservative. They are proud of their traditions and keep them
carefully for centuries.
Ведущий 2: Listen to the poem of an English schoolboy who likes English
traditions.
I like English traditions,
It’s my cup of tea,
Traditions are full of ideas,
Don’t you agree?

Traditions can teach and excite,

Traditions can comfort and thrill,
Traditions can show the world
And will make you fill.

Funny traditions make me laugh,

Others make me doubt
Many traditions make me happy
And all them make me proud.
Ведущий1: The traditions don’t only accumulate the experience and wisdom of
many generations, but they bring some stability into the rapidly changing world.
Ведущий2: Today we are going to present you some of the most popular and
interesting English traditions.
7кл.
Pupil 1: The Englishmen have sentimental love for all old things. (
демонстрируются картины и плакаты) They keep fireplaces in their houses,
British buses are double-deck and red, mail boxes are yellow, the cars keep to the
left side of the road – all these are traditions.
Pupil 2: Traditional love of English people for tea is well known. Today the people
of Britain drink more tea than any other nation in the world. The English usually
say, “If you are hot, tea will cool you off, if you are cold, it will warm you up.”
Pupil3 And this is the test of good English tea: if a spoon stands up in it, then it is
strong enough; if the spoon starts to wobble ( покачиваться), it is week.
(демонстрируются иллюстрации).
8кл.
Pupil 1: Foreigners coming to London are struck at once by quite a number of
traditional ceremonies, such as the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace,
Trooping the Colour, the State opening of Parliament and many others.
Pupil 2: The Houses of Parliament or the Palace of Westminster is full of traditions
and customs.
The Lord Chancellor, who presides over the House of Lords, sits on the Woolsack.
It’s a big red cushion full of wool. It’s a part of a very old tradition which started in
the 14th century. It was in Parliament to symbolize the importance of wool to the
British economy at that time.
Pupil 3: The Mace is put on the table when the House of Commons is sitting. It is
the symbol of the power which Parliament won from the King long time ago.
Ведущий1: The British observe certain traditions on such festivals as Pancake
Day, Bonfire Night or Guy Fawkes Night, April Fool’s Day, Halloween and
others. Pancake Day is celebrated on Shrove Tuesday in spring at the beginning of
Lent. Lent is a period of 40 days before Easter.
10кл.
Pupil 1: Well, on this day in England families usually have pancakes for dinner. At
schools children and teachers have pancakes for school dinner, and in restaurants
customers ask for pancakes , too. Everyone knows that pancakes are delicious to
eat, but you don’t know how to cook them. We’ll help you. This is the recipe of
making pancakes.
Pancakes. ( рецепт напечатан для раздачи)
1. Sift the flour and salt into a bowl.
2. Make a small hole in the centre of the flour/ salt mixture and add the egg.
3. Now beat the mixture with a wooden spoon, adding the milk gradually until
well mixed.
4. To make pancakes, heat a little butter in a frying pan with a heavy base.
5. Pour in a little mixture, moving the pan round until there is a thin coating of
mixture all over the pan.
6. Cook until the pancake begins to curl round the edges, showing the golden
brown colour underneath. Ease a palette knife under the centre and flip it
over.
7. Next fry the other side until it is golden brown, then turn the pancake onto a
warm plate and cover.
8. Cook pancakes until all the butter is used, adding more butter each time.
9. Serve immediately with sugar and lemon juice or fill with a sweet or savory
filling.
Pupil 2: ( Выходит с тарелкой блинов) So, let’s imagine that we have already
made our pancakes. Do you know that in England people not only eat them but
race with them? Now we are going to have a pancake race. I invite two girls. Take
frying pans with pancakes on them and stand at that line. After the signal “start”
you must run towards me tossing your pancakes 3 times during the race. The
winner is a pupil who comes first and doesn’t drop her pancake. So “start”!
Pupil 3: Another tradition is the Pancake fight when a cook tosses a pancake high
into the air. The boys fight for the pancake. The winner is the boy who gets the
biggest piece of the pancake. So I invite you to fight for the pancake.
( Желающие принять участие в конкурсе подходят к ведущему.Он
подбрасывает блинчик высоко в верх, и каждый старается оторвать от него
небольшой кусок. Во время конкурса звучит веселая музыка).
Ведущий2: Thank you for your presentation and active participation in the
competitions. Now we’ll tell you about one more special festival which takes place
on the 5th of November- Guy Fawkes Night.
9кл.
Pupil1: Remember, remember
The 5ht of November.
Gunpowder, treason and plot,
For I see no reason
Why gunpowder treason
Should ever we forget.
Pupil 2: On that day, in 1605, Guy Fawkes tried to blow up the houses of
Parliament and kill King James I. He didn’t succeed. The King’s men found the
bomb, took Guy Fawkes to the Tower and cut off his head.
Pupil 3: Since that day the British celebrate the 5ht of November. They burn a
dummy called a “guy” and children can often be seen in the streets before the 5 th of
November saying, “Penny for the guy”. And traditionally children are allowed to
let off fireworks. (показываются иллюстрации)
Ведущий 1: Besides special festivals there are many public holidays in Great
Britain. The way the British celebrate their public holidays is traditional too. Now
the pupils of the 5,9 forms present us Christmas traditions.
Pupil
: Christmas Day, happy day!
We are all glad and very gay,
We all dance and seen and say:
“Welcome, welcome, Christmas Day!”
Pupil 2: On the 25ht of December there is the greatest holiday of all in Britain-
Christmas. But in the weeks before Christmas people are busy. They make or buy
traditional Christmas cards and send them to their friends, grandparents, cousins,
aunts and uncles. (показывают Рождественские открытки).

Pupil3: There are beautiful decorations in the streets. (показывают

иллюстрации).
People buy Christmas trees and put them in their living rooms. Children decorate
Christmas trees with toys and little coloured lights. ( украшают или показывают
елочку и поют песню” Christmas tree”.)
Christmas tree.
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree, They’re green when winter snow is
Your branches green delight us. white.
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree, O Christmas
Your branches green delight us. tree,
They’re green when summer days Your branches green delight us.
are bright.
Pupil3: On Christmas Eve everybody puts their presents under the Christmas trees.
( кладут коробочки с подарками). Children hang stockings on their beds for
Father Christmas to fill them with presents.
Pupil4: But how does he get into the house? He climbs down the chimney and
leaves the presents under the Christmas trees or in the stockings. Наряженный
Санта Клаус кладет подарки под елочку и в чулочки, развешенные на доске,
и читает стихотворение:
I heard the bells on Christmas day,
Their old familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet
The words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men.
Pupil 5: People sing traditional Christmas songs, or carols, all holiday season.
There are different types of carols: religious songs like “Joy to the World”, “Silent
Night” and others and old traditional songs like “Jingle Bells”. (Звучит песня в
исполнении учеников).
Ведущий1: Carol-singing at Christmas is a very old tradition. Christmas carols,
both religious and secular, capture the spirit and excitement of the season. Let’s
finish our party with the carol “Silent Night”.
(Звучит песня в исполнении ученика)
Silent Night
Silent night, Holy night,
All is calm, all is bright.
Round yon Virgin, Mother and
Child,
Holy Infant, so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Silent Night, Holy Night,
Son of God, Love’s pure light.
Radiant beams from Thy holy
face.
With the dawn of redeeming
grace,
Jesus, Lord at Thy birth,
Jesus Lord at Thy birth.
