Metro Arts is a unique and

robust multidisciplinary
organisation dedicated to
professional artists and
their work operating under a
cultural enterprise model. A
multi-artform incubator for
independent practice, Metro
Arts provides a platform of
infrastructure, mentoring,
development and producing
support, networks and
leadership for artists at all
stages of practice, while
concurrently promoting new
and emerging ideas, forms
and practices to the market.
Metro Arts practice is underpinned by
comprehensive venue infrastructure housed
across two dynamic arts spaces in Brisbane
city and Norman Park, which offer a large
gallery, three performance spaces, four
rehearsal spaces and 45 artist studios and
workspaces.
Metro Arts recognises and responds to the
need for greater artistic exchange. By actively
fostering relationships and partnering with
national and international cultural bodies,
Metro Arts seeks to extend beyond its own
capacity and establish opportunities and
connections to share resources, trafc
information and build exchange networks
thereby facilitating career pathways for a
community of artists without the capital or
facility to do so themselves.
Metro Arts development support for
performing and visual artists focuses on
facilitating artists capacity to unreservedly
experiment with form and content and
infuse their process with critical dialogue
that challenges and aids extension and
evolution of their work. Equally important
to the delivery of structured development
programming is the provision of accessible
workspace and equipment where artists
can make work on their own terms. This
combination of support is central to the
cultivation of creativity.
Complementing its investment in seeding
new performance work is Metro Arts
producing services, connecting new work with
the local, regional, national and international
marketplace and ensuring Metro Arts
investment in stimulating and developing
ideas has impact.
Metro Arts has played a signicant role in the
cultural life of Brisbane for nearly 40 years as
a communitys gathering place, a workspace
for artists and a platform for the development
of their work. Its history speaks to a
commitment to an artist-centred approach,
inclusivity and open communication.
What makes Metro Arts unique is the vibrant
artistic milieu at its core a continuous
conversation both formally and informally
among practitioners, arts workers and
audiences. We invite you to come and
participate.
