Read the instructions before floor installation
Leave the unpacked parquets to acclimate in the place where the floor is to be laid for
at least 48 hours at temperature of at least 18° and relative humidity of 45 - 60 %.
MAGNUM wood floors are provided with surface finish and are laid as a floating
floor; that means that the boards are interconnected using a tongue-and-grove
joint either by means of glue or glueless MagLock system but they are not attached
to the sub-floor. The sub-floor must be level, firm and dry (refer to DIN 18356). Any
unevenness exceeding 2 mm per 2m of sub-floor length must be levelled. Clean the
sub-floor of impurities; its moisture must not exceed 2.5 CM% for cement, 0.3 CM%
for anhydrite and 10 % for wooden sub-floors. The relative humidity in the room
where the floor is to be laid must not drop below 45 % and exceed 60 %. The room,
sub-floor and parquets must be at room temperature (at least 18°C). Where the floor
is laid on mineral sub-floors (concrete), the use of damp insulation - polyethylene
sheet at least 0.2 mm thick - is required. The edges of the sheet must be provided
with an overlap of at least 20 cm and secured with a damp-proof adhesive tape along
the whole length of the joint. Pull the sheet as far as the top edge of the baseboard
at the walls. Place 2-3 mm thick impact noise insulation over the PE sheet. The
floor will expand depending on the changes of ambient humidity, therefore there
must be a gap at least 10 mm wide around the walls and all fixed objects (pipes,
thresholds, stairs, columns, door frames etc.) In larger rooms, keep the expansion
gap of 1.5 mm per each meter of floor width. This gap should be kept along the whole
floor perimeter. Where the floor width is over 10 m, the floor should be divided by an
expansion gap covered with a fillet. Measure the floor and if the last row of boards
is to be narrower than 70 mm, cut the first row, too. Lay the floor pieces lengthways
in the direction of light incidence. Check the individual units during laying. Reject
the defective parquets. Claims of visible defects shall not be accepted after the
floor is laid. Wood is natural material; therefore observe temperature and humidity
conditions. That way you will avoid the changes in volume which could impair the
aesthetic impression of the floor as a whole. You should know that in cold and dry
climates, gaps between the boards and parquets will appear and that the change in
the colour of wood is natural. These facts are not subject to claims. Feel free to ask

1. Start in the left-hand corner of the room with transverse as well as longitudinal
tongue towards the wall. (Fig.1)
2. Place the next parquet against the first one and place it right on the floor.
Follow this pattern to the end of the first row. (Fig.2) Cut the last parquet
in the first row to the required size and do not forget to leave the expansion
1 2 gaps. Transversal gaps must overlap by at least 60 cm. (Fig.3)
3. Place the board against the preceding parquet. Push it forward while placing in
on the floor. (Fig.4)
4. Place the wedge, see Fig. 16, under the last board, which was installed with
the short end. (Fig.5) Place the short end of a new board against it and lay
the board. (Fig.6)
5. Use a tapping block to tap carefully on the long end so that it clicks into
the joint. (Fig.7)
6. Place the board carefully down on the base until it lies flat. Hint: move
the beater gently along the long joint and the board will fit in smoothly.

7. If three boards have been laid, the distance between the boards and the wall
may be adjusted. Place wedges between the floor and the wall. (Fig.9)
8. If the wall is curved, cut the boards in the first row to match the wall shape.
Follow the wall shape along the placed boards. Release the boards in the first
row; grip them on the longer side and pull up while tapping lightly on the joint.
Cut as required. (Fig.10)
9. Replace the adjusted boards from left to right. Lay the first board and make
sure that the next board fits in the groove on the shorter side. Use the tapping
block to tap on the shorter sides. Follow the pattern with all other boards
5 6 in the row. Do not forget to insert distance wedges between the floor and
the walls. (Fig.11)
10. Cut the last row of boards to the proper width. Bore the holes where heating
pipes will pass through. The holes should be 20 mm larger than the pipe
diameter. Cut according to the picture and glue the cut-off piece back in place
where the board was originally. Cover with a wooden socket. (Fig.12)
11. Where doorjambs need to be cut, measure the correct height using a piece
of board. If you need to tap the board lengthways, protect the joint from the
short end of the board with a scrap piece. (Fig.13)
12. The end row including the last board is cut to the proper width. Place the last

board on the preceding one with about 5 mm distance from the wall. Mark
the board using a scrap piece or a T-square. Lay the cut-to-size piece. Install
baseboards and transition strips. Don‘t forget to remove the expansion spacers
and make allowance for floor movement. (Fig.14)
13. If the circumstances prevent you from sliding the next floor piece in at an
angle, remove 2/3 of the spline. Then apply the white glue and slide the piece
horizontally in place. (Fig.15)

MAGNUM - MagLock floor can be easily disassembled which enables easy replacement
9 10 of damaged pieces during use.

Glued joint
Items 2, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 are identical with the Maglock assembly.

1. Start in the left-hand corner of the room, with transverse as well as longitudinal
groove towards the wall.
11 12 3. Always apply the glue along the upper side of the groove so that it seeps slightly
on the surface after pushing the pieces together.
4. Push the parquets together using a hammer with weight approx. 800g and
a tapping block at least 300 mm long.

Instructions for floor laying over floor heating
MAGNUM parquets can be laid over the hot-water floor heating; the installation may
only result in the risk of expansion of individual pieces (mainly with maple, acacia,
tigerwood and rochades; due to significant expansion we do not recommend beech
and hornbeam wood). The surface temperature of parquets must not exceed 27°C in
any place; this also applies to the surroundings of heaters.

The following instructions must be observed.

Wood reacts to climatic conditions by dimension variations, which may result in

formation of small gaps. Thermal resistance of a three-layer MAGNUM parquet is
R = 0.14 m2 K W-1. Maximum humidity of sub-floor layer on the day of floor lay-
ing is max. 1.5 % for cement screed and not more than 0.3% for anhydrite sub-
floor. Before the start of assembly, the proper record which will include current
temperatures, maximum temperatures achieved, working condition and ambient
temperature during hand-over for new as well as old sub-floor (in accordance with
DIN 4725) must be issued. The sub-concrete before the start of heating must be at
least 29 days old at favourable climatic conditions. The starting temperature must
be increased during warming up by 5°C each day until the full heating capacity is
reached. This temperature must last for at least one day per 1cm of thickness of
the heated screed, without a drop at night. Each extra day is useful for evapora-
tion of moisture. Subsequently reduce the temperature by 5°C every day until 18°C
– 20°C is reached. Leave the heating turned off for the following 7 days. Further
increase the temperature gradually during 4 days up to 45°C. After the temperature
is reached, turn off heating. During that time, keep the room ventilated, prevent
draught. After these precautions are taken, the parquets may be laid. Temperature
of screed surface on the day of floor laying approx. 15°C - 18 °C and relative air
humidity 45 – 60 %.

Floor laying
a) Floating way – when laying the floor using floating way, it is always necessary
to lay steam-proof protection from PE sheet 0.2 mm thick and impact sound
insulation. In such case, it is necessary to consider the total resistance of light
transmittance as a product of resistances of individual layers.
b) Bonding of the parquets to the sub-floor – while laying floor the glue specified
by the manufacturer to be suitable for floor heating must be used.

Turn the heating on 4 days after laying.

a) If there are several circuits of floor heating separated by expansion gaps in
the room where the floor is to be laid, these gaps must be recognized on the
parquet surface in the case of the parquets glued across the board, while if the
floor is laid using floating way it is necessary to provide heating simultane-
ously for all circuits evenly.
b) On first putting into operation as well as at the beginning of the heating sea-
son, the floor is heated gradually.
c) The floor surface temperature must not exceed 27 °C in any part of the room.

d) In order to maintain floor stability keep the room temperature 18 – 21 °C and
relative humidity 45 – 60 %

 Use and maintenance instructions
The three-layer MAGNUM parquets are manufactured from natural materials. High
humidity results in expansion of pieces and low humidity causes formation of gaps
and deformations. Therefore it is necessary to provide optimum climatic condi-
tions in the rooms with wooden floor – air temperature 18-23 °C and air humidity
45 – 60%. If the relative air humidity is low, the floor is exposed to extreme drain.
That can be avoided by installing air humidifier. In the course of time, the change
of wood colour appears with the three-layer MAGNUM parquet. This phenomenon
is common for wood. The above-mentioned wood properties (change of colour re-
sulting from solar radiation, change of volume due to climatic conditions) are not
subject to claims.
Protect the floor by the entrance door with a mat or cleaning zone in front of as well
as behind the interior. This will avoid dirt, sand, gravel and dampness being brought
inside, thus protecting the MAGNUM floor and increasing its lifespan. Provide the
furniture legs with felt pads that will prevent the floor from undesired scratching
and grooves. Use soft casters for chairs and movable pieces of furniture. Install
plastic sheets under movable pieces of office furniture to disperse the increased
pressure on the floor.

Cleaning and maintenance of lacquered floors

Keeping the MAGNUM floor is very easy. Use a fine broom or a vacuum cleaner with
an attachment for parquets for day-to-day cleaning. If necessary, clean with damp
cloth or mop. Wipe off spilled liquids as soon as possible. Do not use acids and sol-
vents, detergents and powder cleaning agents for cleaning. MAGNUM floors are pro-
tected by a very resistant finish. If needed, in case of excessive wear the floor can be
sanded and refinished thanks to the thick wear layer. Always remove stains using a
recommended agent. Some tips for stains:
Tar, oil, soot, grease etc. benzine
Ink, lipstick turpentine and water 1:1
Chewing gum etc. freeze and scrape carefully

Be careful when using these agents as they may cause damage in high concentrations.

Cleaning and maintenance of oiled floors

Regular cleaning of oiled floors will ensure easier maintenance of the floor as
a whole as well as increase its resistance to wear.
The MAGNUM parquets are pre-treated with oil and in this condition they are ready
in for laying and use in residential areas. Where the floor is designed for commercial
areas, or further building activity was carried out in residential areas, we recom-
mend that you re-oil, or possibly treat the floor using proper treating agents, be-
fore handing over for use.
Use a broom or a vacuum cleaner for day-to-day cleaning. Wash the whole floor with
a well-wrung damp cloth regularly. For maintenance of oiled parquets, add the rec-
ommended amount of the cleaning agent for oiled surfaces into the water. Use of
Photo: Birch special cleaning agent will create a protective film on the parquet surface which
increases the resistance of floor against wear.
Observe the following rule: always use two buckets – one with a prepared solution
and one with clean water for rinsing dirty cloth or mop.
Important notice: always wipe the floor with the agent on the cloth or mop.
The stains that are difficult to remove can be removed using a special stain remover.
Spray the stain removal on the stain and let it dissolve on it. If needed repeat the
procedure. After approximately four or five hours (at 18–20°C) the floor can be used
again. Do not expose the floor to water for at least 24 hours.
Depending on the use of oiled wooden floor and in order to keep the high quality
of surface finish, we recommend that you re-oil the floor once a year in residential
areas, and in commercial areas depending on the use of the floor, however at least
once in 6 months.
