Position: College Access Plan Program Coordinator

20 hours per week; No benefits


Salary: $1,250 monthly
Location: Pasadena, CA
Start Date: August 11, 2014

Summary of Position:
College Access Plan (CAP) is seeking a part-time Program Coordinator for the duration of two
school semesters (42 weeks). Program Coordinators run CAPs major student support programs
at four high schools and one middle school in Pasadena, CA under the direct supervision of the
Director of Programs and in collaboration with community agencies. Program Coordinators are
responsible for coordinating school-site CAP program operations and activities with students,
parents, and program collaborators. Program Coordinators are involved in all major aspects of
programming including preparation, recruitment, implementation, and evaluation. The Program
Coordinators primary focus is to prepare underserved high school students for success in college
in accordance with the organizations mission.

Responsibilities:
Maintain and manage an on-campus office space;
High school coordinators facilitate after-school post-secondary planning programs and one-
on-one advisement; Middle school coordinators implement in-class activities, one-on-one
advisement, and student-parent meetings.
Supervise volunteers during after-school programs;
Coordinate with teachers and counselors to provide in-class presentations about career and
college planning;
Collaborate with CAP capacity-building staff to modify and develop curriculum in support
of student success;
Assist CAP students and parents with FAFSA, college and scholarship applications;
Facilitate PSAT, SAT and ACT registration and preparation;
Copy and prepare all program materials;
Set appointments with students and send reminders;
Facilitate one evening information session per semester for families at each high school;
Help students develop and edit personal statements for colleges and scholarships;
Write letters of recommendation for regular CAP attendees;
Monitor student grades/credits to promote completion of college pre-requisite curriculum;
Monitor program success, including levels of participation, quality of activities, and
impact;
Maintain accurate and complete records of student data and participation in CAP activities;
Treat student personal information with sensitivity and maintain FERPA standards of
privacy for all student records;
Provide records or written reports as required for grant compliance, and maintain proper
records for all expenditures;
Recognize and celebrate student success.

Required Qualifications:
Must be available M-Th, 12-5pm
Bachelors Degree required (minimum), preferably in the areas of education, counseling,
social work, child development or related fields
Experience working with teens aged 12-18
Knowledge of secondary education requirements
Knowledge of postsecondary education options, application procedures and admission
requirements
Strong ability to communicate with students, parents, volunteers, and school staff and
faculty verbally and in writing
Experience with basic operating systems and office software
Well-developed organizational skills with a solid orientation to detail
Creative and critical thinker with a desire to learn
Must have own transportation
Must complete Pasadena Unified School District background check, including Department
of Justice clearance and TB test

Additional Desired Qualifications:
Fluent in Spanish
Graduate program enrollment or graduate degree preferred
Experience with database and/or design software (Salesforce, Photoshop, etc.)
Experience working with disadvantaged populations

Training Provided:
On-the-job training will be provided.
