Summer Extravaganza!

Summer Extravaganza 2014 will be offering many new and dynamic
programs. We hope to create a summertime adventure of discovery, fun,
and learning that will build knowledge and enrich your child.

The goal of Summer Extravaganza is to encourage children to explore new
skills, talents, and interests as well as maintain and sharpen academic
skills, boost academic confidence, and reinforce the value of education.
The programs are self-funding. The cost of each program is set to cover
the cost of the teacher and the materials.

You will be sending your child to a fun, safe, educational program.

Important Information:
Courses are open to both Canton Public School students and to students from other school districts.
These enrichment courses run Monday through Friday.
Grade levels indicated are for the grade your child will be entering in Fall 2014.
For children who are also attending the Canton Parks & Recreation Explorers Camp at Mills Pond, there will be
transportation available (at parents expense) to bring children from Cherry Brook Primary School (leaving at
12:15 p.m.) to Mills Pond Recreation Center. Parents would pick up their child(ren) after camp at Mills Pond.

Extravaganza.

Course Offerings (Summer Extravaganza 2014)
Jazz Camp (June 23 June 27)
Cantons Jazz Camp, under the direction of the Canton Public Schools
faculty, will give young students the opportunity to pursue jazz theory
and improvisation appropriate to their level. Students will need to bring
their own instruments. Drums, mallet instruments, and amplifiers will be
provided.

Getting Ready for Kindergarten
This is a great class for your child to work on writing, coloring,
socializing, listening and trying out the class. This will be a first
experience with Kindergarten.

This class is for the students interested in rolling up their sleeves
and exploring the world of art. Students will work with painting,
drawing, sculpture, and more.

Come be a part of an African drumming circle. Sing and dance

Fun with Music Let Your Voice Shine (Grades 4-6)
Gain confidence singing and harmonizing in small groups,
featuring Broadway, classic and rock style vocals. Sing todays
most popular music from the worlds top performers such as:
Royals by Lorde, Human, Jar of Hearts, and A Thousand
Years, by Christina Perri, "When I'm Gone (Cups)" by Anna
Kendrick, Rolling in the Deep by Adele, and many more that
you can choose from. Sing smash hits from Broadway like
On My Own from Les Miserables, as well as music from
Phantom of the Opera,Cats, Starlight Express, and others.

Letterboxing
Letterboxing combines hunting for treasure with ink stamping.
We will go to different places in the surrounding local areas.
We will follow the clues together and enjoy some pretty cool
hikes! We will also be making our OWN letterboxes and hiding it
with clues for your friends to find!

Fun with Mother Goose

We will learn many of the beloved and not so common nursery
rhymes with art, literature, dramatization, math, rhyming and
more! We will make up reasons why Humpty Dumpty was on
the wall and even make some food to go with the nursery rhyme!

Camp Read-A-Lot

Bring your flashlight, sleeping bag, and great books to read.
We will transform the classroom into a campground. Students
will enjoy storytelling by a simulated campfire, sing-alongs,
Smores, read alouds, and recreational reading under the stars.

Medieval History
Sieges, trebuchets, and murder holes, raining cats and dogswhat do these words and
phrases have in common? They are all part of the world of Medieval History. Travel back
in time and design a coat of arms, learn about siege engines, and plan a castle layout that
will withstand an enemy attack.
