INSTRUCTIONS FOR LECTORS BLESSED SACRAMENT CHURCH

PREPARATORY
Arrive a minimum of 15 minutes before mass and sign in on board in Sacristy
If two lectors,
o #1) 1st reading & prayers of the faithful (and psalms, for 7:30 mass only)
o #2) 2nd reading & announcements (and gospel acclamation, for 7:30 mass only)
Review Prayers of the Faithful (PoF), especially for pronunciation of names, and announcements
(look to see if there are any specific to your mass)
Place books & ribbons:
o Lectionary on ambo, open to the first reading
o PoF Binder on shelf of small table next to chairs
o Announcements on shelf of lectern (level below the altar)
Gospel book stays in Sacristy for procession (#1 Lector carries Gospel Book)
Group prayer in Sacristy
Walk together to center of church

ENTRANCE
Music minister welcomes
Song starts
Walk on music
Order - acolytes / #2 lector / # 1 lector carrying Gospel book / presider
At altar - #2 to left, in front of altar
#1 Gospel book bearer to right counter-clockwise
BEGINNING MARCH 9, 2014: Hold Gospel book, unopened, above the altar and wait until the
presider and other lector bow; place Gospel book unopened in plastic holder on altar
both lectors proceed to chairs

READINGS
cue - At end of Collect, presider sits (Fr. Joe may provide overview of readings first)
Lector # 1 goes to ambo - A reading from......The Word of the Lord
turn page, set book for next reading, pause and sit down
Music minister does psalm (Read by lector # 1 at 7:30 mass)
cue - At end of music/psalm reading
Lector # 2 goes to ambo - A reading from......The Word of the Lord
(Gospel acclamation done by lector # 2 at 7:30 mass should be sung; non-singing lectors can ask
priest if they are willing to sing the Gospel acclamation)
place Lectionary on the top of the little table on the side by chairs and sit down
Presider does Gospel and homily
cue at end of homily, when priest leaves the ambo, Lector # 1 moves Gospel book to the table next
to the ambo, closes the book, and returns to his/her chair for the creed

PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL
cue the last few lines of the creed
Lector # 1 picks up PoF binder and walks to the ambo
cue - presider speaks (written at the top of the Prayers of the Faithful page)
read that ..../Lord hear our prayer....
Remember in silence...(pause)... pray to the lord.
Presider does concluding prayer
Read - It is time to share...
Put PoF binder on shelf of small table
Both lectors to center, lower level, joint bow, go to pew

AFTER COMMUNION
Lector #2 goes through side entry to chair next to lectern (not ambo)
cue- nod from presider
go to lectern, read announcements
go up steps, stand on side by chairs
cue after final blessing, presider walks to center
walk to join presider, joint bow, process out, same order as entry procession
follow acolytes into sacristy
When song is over and congregation begins to clear, pick up books (Gospel, Lectionary, PoF binder,
announcements) and put back on counter in Sacristy
