Bullying, some perspectives

Luis Gerardo Morales Miranda

Tenth semester, vespertine

There is not an official definition of Bullying but in general the common conception
of Bullying is the use of force, threat, or coercion to abuse, intimidate, or
aggressively impose domination over others. Also is viewed a complex
phenomenon moderated not only by the personal characteristics and behavioral
traits of the individual but also by family rearing practices, as well as by situational
factors such as the frequency and type of bullying. The phenomenon is also
affected by group processes among the individuals present during the event.
People who bully have personalities that are authoritarian, combined with a strong
need to control or dominate. It has also been suggested that a prejudicial view of
subordinates can be particular a risk factor. Further studies have shown that while
envy an dresentment may be motives for bullying, there is little evidence to suggest
that bullies suffer from any deficit in self esteem(as this would makeit difficult to
bully). However, bullying can also be used as a tool to conceal shame or anxiety or
to boost self esteem: by demeaning others, the abuser him/herself feel
sempowered.
There are many types of bullying; many of them are practiced by teen agers, kids,
or adults in scholar ages, the other cases are relatively rare to find.
